I am thoroughly looking forward to seeing the Hagoromo -- and the people of Konoha as a whole -- reminded that we are Jiraiya's clan, not just the weirdoes who take in civilians.

Looks like we were right to let Keiko do her thing.

"When you say 'affiliated businesses'… do you mean the way my and Akane's parents' workshops are affiliated businesses of the Gōketsu?"

Hazō nodded. "Haru, we're not going to be able to take down the Hagoromo without hurting their finances, and we're not going to be able to hurt their finances without inconveniencing the people who work for them. I'm sorry. I wish I knew a way to do this that only targeted the people at the top who are responsible, but I don't think there is one. For now, just get me a list. We can go through and decide how much damage we want to deal, and to whom, once you're done."

Haru's body language was tense, and he didn't look Hazō in the eye, but he didn't refuse.

So...how are we going to show Haru that when we say we aren't like the average clan, we mean it, and that we do not just write off civilians as collateral damage and be done with it?

Put him in charge of getting the civvies back on their feet once the Hagoromo belong to us and the Nara, and put him in charge of making sure all the civvies are getting enough to eat, even as we destroy their livelihood. Even makes the Goketsu look better, showing charity to our enemies in times of trouble.

Target the businesses that aren't run by Hagoromo civilians (i.e., they have a cushion if/when they go out of business), and exert pressure to sell out to us.

Agreed. As for Haru, have him coordinate with Gaku when it comes to having the civilians join the Goketsu. And we should probably check to see if Gaku needs an assistant or two, himself.

Keep specific record of every person involved, ask Lee to ensure they will absolutely not be turned away from the Church of Youth should they need it, make sure to only do sabotage that will not endanger anyone involved.

Stay distant until the Hagoromo formally recant (it would be bad for our aims to establish a visible connection at this point), and then provide the civilians whatever money and assistance they need to either return to the life they previously had or a life more suited to their desires and talents, whichever they prefer.

Tell Haru all of this ahead of time, understanding that he's still got every right to be uncomfortable with it and that we don't expect him to just take us at our word, and give him whatever information he needs to make sure we can prove that we're keeping our word.

So on a mostly-unrelated note: We really need to get our own paper mill. A significant amount of our value comes from being a sealmasters clan, and that relies heavily on paper.

And ink, come to think of it.

We thought the chakra koi ponds were an isolated incident. Only when they were joined by the octopus tanks did we begin to suspect. But by then... it was too late to stop the coming of the mini-Mist.

Hmm very surprising that Hagoromo need to ask Oro to lift the quarantine. I'd imagine they could just ask Kabuto instead considering Oro is Oro. It seems that laws matter a lot in Leaf.

I'm against stopping the Hagoromo payments. Unless Nara and Mari say it won't unduly hurt our reputation. We should also tell the Nara the other things we plan.

I think we should have a solid event depicted talking to Haru about this. He's completely in the right to not like it, and I do think we need to plan and justify why we aren't being hypocritical about this. Otherwise, we go back on what we say we support.

I'm in favor of acquiring the paper production. But also, I wonder if getting the kraken scroll and contract would help up make ink (assuming they're at least somewhat like squid)? We do need 2 more scrolls after all.

Don't forget that any Goketsu are not allowed to marry. It's not just targeting Keiko and Noburi.

So, yes, he has the right to be concerned about collateral damage, but don't forget collateral damage to civilians affiliated with us.

Them being bastards doesn't really justify us being bastards, not if we mean what we've said before.

Yeah I agree, this is a potentially huge turning point in his opinion of us - for the better or for the worse.

So... this plan looks amazing from the surface , right? But here's the problem:
What do you wear to a Youthist wedding? More importantly, what is the mandatory guest attire?
I fear that the result of Youthsuits becoming standard wedding attire may very well be us facing a coalition of every power on all seven paths to exterminate us as a threat to the universe itself.

Yeah, it looks like getting an ol'Haggy style wedding more or less is our best option. Welp.

Ok, let's have a one on one talk with Haru. It seems like his concern is that this is going to be just another clan-on-clan slapfight that just fucks over civilians, is that a correct understanding of his concern? How would he like us to limit our tactics in order to alleviate that concern? If we can't limit our tactics and collateral damage does happen, what does he think we should do to make it right?

  • Haru
    • As an addendum to your previous orders, keep a specific record of everyone involved (including the paper mill), and coordinate with Gaku to make sure that the sabotage doesn't injure/kill those involved
      • Tone: We're asking something difficult and we don't expect you to be completely comfortable with it. So we're showing you the following as proof that we're already thinking about the fallout of this:
        • A letter, asking Lee to ensure that those on the list aren't turned away from the Church of Youth, and that they might be shy and needing someone to first broach the topic for them.
        • Pre-authorized orders to Gaku, providing the affected civilians with whatever money/assistance they need to either return to their previous life, or a life more suited to their desires and talents (whichever they prefer) --to go into effect once the Hagoromo formally recant their statement. Include a no-strings-attached offer to join the Goketsu, but impress that this will not affect the quality/timeliness of the reparations. Add that Gaku may have his choice of up to three personal assistants to aid in this endeavor
      • If you'd like, you can be in charge of this project, with Gaku and his possible-assistants at your disposal. We know that you don't fully trust us yet, and that you're not completely comfortable with your orders, so we're letting you know that we're going to do this to minimize the fallout as much as humanly possible
      • Any thoughts about this plan, or other ideas on creating/minimizing damage?
  • Mari
    • Tone: compassionate, gentle
    • What's your Uplift?
      • Hazou has civilian/clanless
      • Kieko has her pursuit of equal rights for "nontraditional" relationships
      • Kagome is taking an interest in education, in his own way
        • Conditional: if this seems to make Mari unsure about her place in our lives, comfort and reassure her accordingly.
      • What's your Personal Uplift?
        • Conditional: If Mari is agreeable to the topic, but also unsure of her personal Uplift goals, gently suggest gender equality or a reformation of how Leaf handles sexual assault crimes as possible Uplift pursuits
      • Regardless of her answer, gently remind her that she has the full support and aid of Team Uplift to call upon --personal, emotional, military, and financial.

I like it, can we have something in Haru's section that's just asking him what he's thinking and if he has any other ideas on what we might be able to do to limit damage/make damage right?
Added, but I should mention that It's not intended as a plan in and of itself, more just something to get the ball rolling while also providing a starting place for other plans, based on what's already been discussed.

Edit: I also just really want to have this covo with Mari. Every time something bad happens, we tell her to go crazy without restraint, and it's inevitably bad for her mental/emotional health. So... Yeah. Making her think about creative/constructive ends, rather than Heartbreaker-esque destruction.

I'm not really sure we're directly contributing much to that plan. Everything seemed to boil down to "This is a bad idea. Luckily Keiko's got it." Speaking of which, destroying a clan like this is going way too easy. I think it wouldn't hurt to invest some effort in making sure our businesses and plans are prepared against sabotage themselves.

Going forward, I think we should have a meeting with the Hagoromo to throw the fact that Yuno and Noburi need to get married in their face and provide a convenient excuse for why we're stopping payments - Keiko clearly expects this of us, so we should consult with Mari about the PR and legality side of things, meet the Hagoromo, and cut off the payments.
