[X] Plan: Expert Advice

on a side note have we moved our ancestral castle yet or is it still in Drusselstein
Nope, still in Drusselstein. I'm hoping to move it next turn.

If people want to engage in supervillainy but don't want to try to take the book from Xanatos, the best move would be to buy the book and steal the talisman. Especially since the winner of the talisman auction will probably have more of the set.

"Ugh! I despise interruptions!" Magica snarled, her glare promising painful death for the Huntsclan members that dared to approach the stage. The sorceress took off one of her gloves in a swift motion, ducking under the weapon that was swung at her head, reaching a finger out to make contact with the man's uniform.

The goon froze in place as his entire body turned to gold!

RIP Number One Dime !

"Is that a hint of loyalty I detect?"

"Call it a desire not to have the rest of the country under your thumb too."

Face it Russ, you're part of the familly now !

I say all in on the morganian encantus

we ARE evil after all, and we do have our great and powerful wizard ancestor to tell us whats safe to learn dont forget!

we get an instructional book for our instructor to help us with! Just need to get on moving that castle and DEI can be the company of food and WIZARDS, or food wizards

Say, anyone got the link to the (hopefully soon-to-be canonized) omake where Xanatos and Doff reveal a collaboration for a Magical School following the Masquerade cracking in that regard?

Fine I can stomach just getting the talisman and potentially stealing the book later.

Actually, how did Magica manage to use gold magic if Scrooge's first dime is worthless with Glomdold being new richest person in the world?...

she probably tookit as her spoils and completed the spell beforeGlomgold officially won.

More importantly we see the touch has exploitable weaknesses.
  1. her glove prevents it's effects. So we know certain materials or magics can prevent it's effects
  2. Layering thin clothes offers protection as it only effects what it touches. Khan for example in multiple skin tight body suits would be able to fight in that super thin amount of soft gold no problem
  3. It can be used against herself as she has no control over what is turned to gold on contact with her hands.
  4. She is supremely confident in it so a surprise attack from someone she thought defeated would be effective

I can't blame that Huntsclan guy for thinking Max was a monster. There's a werewolf that looks like his dad in X-Mickey.

Honestly, I think this is a question of either the Talisman, or the Salem Book.

The talisman for obvious reasons - I really wish we had foregone the crystal key so that we would have more to spend on this round, but hopefully the crystal key will have some worth beyond just lowering the DC of the Dimension Inator. Anyhow, we either want to go whole hog on this... or maybe just nine or ten. I'm leaning towards the latter, simply because I'd like to try for the Salem book. And it's certainly possible that the other item that was bought was a talisman (how come someone else was able to buy at minimum outside the auction?), so even if we do or don't get this one, we'll still have our work cut out for us securing the other one - my point being that I imagine we can still obtain this talisman later on.

Anyhow, as far as the Salem book goes... I can honestly think of any number of reasons to go for it. It's a potions book for one, and that's right up our alley. And the contents need not necessarily be as dubiously moral as the life potion the sisters use - it depends on how stringent its adherence to evil as opposed to EVIL is. And who's to say we couldn't turn something that's arguably evil towards good anyway? Whether that be by using potions/spells for things that aren't their intended purpose, or using the altering the spell/potion to create a positive effect.

Furthermore, the Book itself is sentient, and I for one would like to continue collecting sentient artifacts - if only so that Feldrake has a bro to hang out with. And it's possible that this will lead to either the possible recruitment of the Sanderson sisters (y'all are gonna say I'm crazy, but I can see us pulling off some crazy shenanigans whereby we convince them that they were going about their pursuit of immortality/eternal youth all wrong - also they pulled off a bangin' musical number, we need that musical talent), conflict with them (arguably not a great thing, but I'd say it's worth the risk for the other opportunities presented, not to mention the possible ripple effects), or eventual leads into America's more mundane magical history/more magical artifacts (not sure I put this right, but what I mean is that there's this whole aspect of magic that's less Disney magic and more... the kind that's present in the really old fables and such which we haven't really been exposed to).

Plus, if worst comes to worst... depending on how things go as far as Bill and other world-ending threats are concerned... this very well might open routes to going Old Testament on those threats. As they say, better the Devil you know...

Regardless, it's a potent potions and spells book, and I think we should aim to obtain it for as simple a reason as denying it to anyone else that might want it - as far as wizards and witches go, chances are anyone interested in this is probably not someone we want having it (other than, well, us. I'm actually leery of the possible ramifications of allowing Janna access to it and think it would be something we'd need to address/discuss should we win the book).

And people are forgetting that the book's contents actually included the Sanderson Sisters' weaknesses (at least if I remember right). So we needn't even necessarily use it for its less dubious aspects - if it contains the weaknesses of various evil/occult entities, it would certainly be worth it for that alone.

On another note, I just realized that our Max shares the same name as the boy that lights the candle/resurrects the witches in Hocus Pocus.

And since Max already lit the candle... there seems to be a strong narrative argument for going for the Salem Book.

I was not prepared for this quest

That tailsman seems really useful, plus Russ is suggesting it.

Admittedly I would be down for a 10-7 split on tailsman and Morgan encanti respectively, but I'm not sure it would win us either and it's not in the running anyway

Well, that's confirmed, she got the First Coin. Using it to make an amulet that granted her the power of Midas was Magica's primary goal in the comic.
