A Past and Future Secret: Remembrance
A Past and Future Secret: Remembrance

I always knew that somehow I'd be remembered, be it as a fool or a great man.

I was born to be remembered in many different ways.

Be it glorious or tragic. That was my curse and my hope, that someone would learn from it all.

Or at the very least not get seduced by your half sister...and get killed by the offspring while also killing it.

Oh by god I'm a terrible person.

But I'm still trying to be better, and that's more than I can say for a lot of people even today.

------------------------------------------------

(Arthur POV)

You looked at Cavell and sighed as the dog sat next to you at the Bus stop with another person.

"So...going to London too?" The man asked. "I'm going for work."

"I'm just travelling there to look for a friend. Thats all." You said.

The Man looked at you and the way you dressed. "So, you some kind of living history relic or something?"

"In a manner of speaking, so we'll be on the bus for how long?" You said.

"At least 2 hours, that thing isn't in a crate or something, is there a reason?" He said.

"I served in a war, he keeps me grounded. And he's soft." You said.

"I see, why doesn't he have a service harness?" He said.

"He doesn't like it, you know how dogs are sometimes, it's good for them not to wear it sometimes, he'll behave, and he's already done his business." You said.

"Well this has a film on it...so we won't be bored." He said.

"Really what is it called?" You said.

"Have you lived under a rock...its Monty Python and the Holy Grail." He said.

"Uh Huh…" You said, that can't be right...You've never heard of Monty Python.

You sat in your chair with the Dog on your lap and watched the film start.

[The Opening Scene : ENGLAND 932 AD]

Already this ladened with inaccuracies...you think that the ensuring issues of this film would cause for you.

First...you remember something like this happening in your early 20s, a little after you were king, but before you really did anything important with your life.

In fact the year was about 502 AD, and you were trying to find some suitable gift for Gwenivire for your wedding in the lull of the Anglo Saxon Invasion.

"I can already tell this is going to make me laugh...or tear out my hair." You said.

[The Scene with the Coconut and the Swallow]

When it comes down to it this whole mess started because you got conned into selling your horse for coconuts.

They MISSED that part of the story!! Instead, they skipped to the climax argument about how you got them!!

The Joke was still funny, they just missed the context.

"This is already incorrect on so many levels." You said looking at the screen.

"How so?" asked the passenger beside you

"This is a sick joke, if they were somewhat accurate it would be in the 500s, the rest of the jokes are fine. Really the only other unrealistic thing about this is that they didn't include a scene that shows him being conned for those coconuts." You said.

"I think they couldn't really afford horses so they had to improvise it all." The Passenger remarked.

"They could have made a joke about it, wasted potential that is all, really." You replied as the other passenger nodded.

"Hmm, they could have set up better, still a master of comedy." He said.

"I'm not saying it isn't its feels like the climax to a greater joke thats all." You said.

"Well, let's hope it's still hilarious." He said.

[King Arthur and the Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune]

Ahh you remembered Dennis that unusually educated peasant, he brought you to your knees when he brought in the fallacies of your right to kingship, bringing in ideas of social class and the legitimacy of the Lady of the Lake bringing a Magic Sword out of a Pond being an effective system of government.

Well for one thing you checkmated his ass with facts and logic.

"Have you ever wondered what the real king Arthur would say to him, in a clearly realistic manner." You said.

That got a nod.

"Arthur was a populist, a War Master or General his early life has been made to put him in the position of both having the blood and the skills needed to successfully lead the Kingdom of England against the Saxon menace, He was chosen after pulling the sword from the stone after winning several battles and earning his spurs...in technicality the people did vote to support his claim to the throne, and in fact did chose and vote for him, its just most of those votes came from the army and Arthur's military ability against the Saxons was as important in defending their lands and people, then the fact he also had a magic sword from the lake." You explained.

"Well yeah, but there might have been other candidates better suited for Leading-." He started.

You nodded. "No one was qualified."

"Alright, but it would still be a good idea too better the social system" He retorted.

"He tried...he really did, circumstances and life kept him from doing so." You said remembering your failed attempts at lawmaking.

The Man nodded. "Yeah, sad story for the guy, his wife cheated on him, his Kingdom was destroyed, and all his friend's ether betrayed him or died, in some cases both"

You sighed and felt that one coming a mile away, Lance and Gwen...its adultery and immoral, and complete breach of trust you two had...it all went to hell when you couldn't trust her and were forced to fight Lancelot, but in the end, you never hated her for her decision."Oh I think Gwen never betrayed him...just made a poor decision with a friend...and paid for it."

You continued. "She always wanted children, He could never give it to her...it was all she ever wanted in the end...What is a kingdom, a people and good friends to love someone like that, he never deserved her, even as he locked her away in a convent she still loved him as their world was torn apart."

"Knights and Heroes come and go, but a family, the chance for something permanent and long-lasting is...irreplaceable." You felt cold as you remembered your failures as a husband, only reconciling on the eve of battle before your death.

"Jeez, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you were the real King Arthur" He replied in a sarcastic manner.

You laughed hiding your pain from the world. "He's been dead for 1500 years and this world has moved on without him...so why should he give a damn about any of this. The world remembers him, but not really, to understand a man's character after all of this time is insane."

[King Arthur and the Black Knight]

"Now this is somewhat better, I mean I can see that Arthur is skilled, yet not all the way to his peak fighting abilities...and the fact he just watches is really to show." You said as the scene began.

"Well, should he really get involved in a Duel between two Knights?" He said.

"No...that's not sporting, and its not viable, they could kill him, and respects his own skin." You said.

"Well who did He hope would win?" He said.

"He certainly had odds on Black certainly. And that was only by looking at him once." You said.

"Kay, awfully determined, was the Black Knight." He said.

"Indeed, It was almost a shame leaving him missing four limbs on that bridge, stealing his weapons and beer and leading to a massive border crisis." You said with pride.

"Wait what!?" The Passenger said.

"Semantics...merely semantics." You said.

"Probably bleed out afterwards" He said.

"No He lived Twenty More years and was at Arthur's Wedding." You said remembering the wedding.

"Hah, how would he even get around without legs?" He said laughing a bit as Cavell snored.

"Same way men those days always do...make someone else do it. Oh the next scene is coming." You said feeling more excited .

[Sir Bedivine and the Witch Trial]

"True story this way, only thing is King Arthur killed them all afterword's, seeing how they were all scum condemning an innocent woman too death." You said recounting the truth.

"Hmm, Why's that?" The Man asked.

"Because if there was one thing he hated in the world it was a miscarrage of justice." You replied.

"Is it actually where he met Beliviere?? He asked as you petted your dog.

"Ehh, Close enough, they met in the same place and had to listen to all of their problems...this and the tax codes the Crier was supposed to bring up to date never came it was all a mess, killing those unclothed fools was a welcome change of pace." You said. "And he got a friend out of it, so it was worth it."

[The Camelot Musical and Dance Number]

"How the Hell did they remember this?" You said in a dead tone.

"You act like this is a true story?" He said.

"The Bachelor Party of Arthur...I thought he ordered all records to be destroyed." You said, if someone wrote down a copy you'd find and kill their descendants!!

"Eh, most people are just gonna think it was a made-up anyway," He said wondering why you were taking this seriously.

"THE WORD MUST NEVER KNOW IT WAS REAL!! NO ONE MUST KNOW THE TRUTH." You said, feeling your teeth move.

"Hah, too late for that pal." Mocked the passenger behind him. "Now shut up and stop making commentary."

"Too late anyway." You said dismayed.

[King Arthur meets God]

You looked at the Scene and then sighed. "I don't really think that happened...or at all, I mean, I'm sure he would have remembered that."

You didn't really remember what happened after the party, only that you got high on some drugs from the middle east and started wandering.

The Man behind you sighed. "So you saying it was all a drug-fueled hallucination brought about by rampant drug usage at a bachelor party."

"Hey, it was either that or an act of god I can't really remember." You said, noting the slip of the tongue, and then played it off as you being over-excited.

[The Battle at the Swamp Castle]

"That, is why Sir Lancelot is not allowed too get drunk anymore" You said.

"That bad?" He said.

"Oh it was worse, nearly started a war. Again, really it was a wild bachelor party based on surviving documents." You said letting Cavall continue to snore.

"I hear Lance was a soft-spoken man, depending on the legends, is that true?" He said.

"Ehh...mostly true, he could be loud and annoying sometimes." You said.

[Tim the Enchanter]

"Ah, good ole Tim" He replied calmly. "Love that guy."

"Easy for you to say, he gave Arthur the scare of his life with his antics. Those explosives are terrifying." You said.

Was the Rabbit real?" He asked. "I mean based on what you read?"

"Wait...what rabbit?" You said failing to remember what he was saying.

[The Rabbit and the Hand Grenade]

It kills his men, squires and soldiers alike as your hand trembled in fear.

RUN AWAY RUN AWAY..

AHHGH!!

"Not again...I will find you again and destroy you.." You said quietly.

The scene played out in tandem as you remembered it. "1, 2, 5!" The Passenger said playing along with the comedy of errors.

You meant to say three at that time, but you were coming down from that high and were being silly.

"You can get you a few of those...I know where to find some." You said feeling smug. You loved the power of the Holy Hand Granade.

"Oh, I'd enjoy having a Holy Hand Grenade" The Passenger noted.

"Heh..kids these days want to play with things they don't understand. " You said. "A Holy Hand Granade is pure divine destructive power, from the almighty himself, Its not a children's toy like some of the people these days think it is."

"Suppose you would know Arthur." He said, he seemed to have guessed your name and was trying to get you to give something away. It wouldn't work.

You smiled in response. "I suppose its a common enough name to guess. Arthur Penn, wandering historian."

"Knew I pegged you for an Arthur, just with the way you were talking you sounded like you were Arthur." He said, giving a chuckle. "But it must be your bread and butter."

"Now I know the cave that Joseph of Arimathea died in, actually was coming back from a look at it, The Beast was probably a hallucination or some higher force I assume a fae..named PUCK." You said.

"An interesting theory." He said. "But whatever suits your work."

"Fae's are annoying to deal with personally...they always think they are better then you." You mused.

Wait, Puck? Like the Shakespearean character?" He said.

"He's remembered...well damn, hope he's less an ass then he was in the manuscripts I found describing him." You said.

"Hah, next you'll be telling me Macbeth was real as well" He said in utter disregard of study.

If there was one thing you recalled while translating the Document in that museum, it was figuring out the similarities and differences between the historical and Shakespeare Macbeth...the fact this man thought it was all false shows his lack of appreciation for Scottish history.

"He was real you idiot, reigned seventeen years. He was MacBheatha mac Fhionnlaigh." You said in near perfect Gaelic. "The fact you don't know that shows your disregard for history, in spite of your knowledge." You said,

"Hey, I'm a man of Culture, not History" He said.

You grumbled."Try being both...you'll be happier and appreciate more."

That got a laugh out of both of you.

[King Arthur and the Bridge of Death]

"In the Manuscript I read this was beyond hilarious, and completely accurate sans the fact the ones who died were actually squires and not his knights." You said continuing the lie that you read it and not lived it.

"Really, then what is the Capital of Assyria?" He said. "Never knew for the longest time."

"It was Assur...someone should have paid attention in History sessions." You said feeling smug.

"Well tell my Athur, what are the Airspeed velocity of an unladen African or European Swallow?"He said.

"Now that's just cruel...he never clarified it and paid for it, I won't make that same mistake again." You said. "Besides the answer was already given at the beginning of the Film...you'd know if you paid attention." You said trying to avoid answering it once again.

The scenes with the French were utterly false.

"He only raided the Merovingians!! Never got into any sieges...we ignore that." You said.

"But what about?" The Passenger started.

"We ignore that." You insisted.

[The Ending If you can call it that?]

"I swear, the next time I see Puck I swear I'll....." You mused

"Uhh...that was Merlin and Fae's trying to make him go home and get married." You finished.

---------

The Attendant on the Bus looked at you and tapped on your shoulder. "Excuse me sir? I'd like for you to leave the bus at the next stop."

"Was I being disruptive?" You said being aware.

"Very disruptive sir...Now get the hell off this bus in five minutes." She said.

You were booted off as you held your dog and your worldly belongings in your hands.

Looking at the Tower of London and the old River Themes sliced through the city.

You breathed in, and thanked God, and then took a step forward breathing in the Air of the Modern Age that had grown in your absence.

You looked at Cavell, "Come on now, lets ask a Church if we can rest a bit, and find the Stone of Destiny..if it still exists."

You then carried on into a City that has changed far too much and like a Ghost you vanished into the Cities Night to find meaning in the present.

The Church was open surprisingly enough, and the Preist was surprised when you asked for shelter.

"You've come quite a long way haven't you son." He said with a gentle smile. "Seen a lot of terrible things in your time son."

The Preist was older than you by at least three decades, not chronologically, but you knew the point.

He'd watch the end and beginnings of Era's and see their effects play out in earnest.

He held out an Old Set of Tags in his old worn hands "Royal Marines 1958-1991, Falkland Islands Conflict."

You handed over a ring a token of that time when you were younger "Anglo Saxon Invasions 496-528, I was well 'killed' at the Battle of Camlin."

There would always be an unspoken trust between those who fought in the service for God and Country, started by the Round Table...that legacy was remembered and the Sacred Brotherhood in its purest form, endured.

"Your not the first man out of time to come to these halls, you will not be the last. Just last week I had a man from the Somme blow through my door." He said.

"Stay a Time...you will find your role or return to where you came, but rest, for now, you've suffered enough for a time, heal and rest." The old man said.

AN: Social commentary on Cultural Memory, and how people of the modern day know Arthur as an Idea and a Symbol, not as a man. A History lesson and funny reactions to Monty Python being true for King Arthur as a source of madness from his younger years.

And a bone is thrown that A Ex British Soldier and priest, knowing and empathizing with Arthur's man out of time problem. After all, are all defenders of Britain not members of the Round in Spirit and in Deed?

All in a days work.

Thank you @radioxaxa for the idea and the witty dialogue batter from the other side.

Enjoy...it took me a few days to write this.

Regarding Vanessa and college, is she going to Doof U, or are we going to talk to Xanatos into getting her into a nice university in his neighborhood?

Final Curtains (Canon)
Final Curtains

For best results, listen to this on a low volume in the background:

Syndrome snarled as he triple-checked his pack for the third time. It was… not good. Scavenged from the remains of his rocket boots and whatever electronics he'd been able to squirrel out of the room's walls when the tin can wasn't looking. The only thing less likely to work would be the laser emitter he'd put together out of a strobe light and hot plate. His costume was worn, filthy, left to him only out of some sick joke he assumed. His arms still hurt with every movement from compound fractures that hadn't healed right. Only one thing was keeping Buddy Pine going at this point, and it wasn't a desire to reclaim his power, his wealth, or his prestige.

It was hate.

Hate for Supers. Hate for the Tin Can. Hate for the scientists who designed it and the security that failed him, hate for everyone and everything that had let him down. He didn't need their help. He didn't need their approval. He would get out of here on his own, he would burn Vegas to the ground if he had to, and he would tear the truth about who had done this to him out of that worthless robot's broken memory banks.

The room's lock hadn't been hard to disable. The great atrium before the exit hadn't been hard to find. Every inch of the room his humiliation had taken place in had been seared into his mind. The only hard part was going to be getting far enough away before anyone realized he was gone.

That plan went out the window when the damn ninja appeared behind him.

"Ah ah ah." Momakase noted, unsheathing her knives. "You should be in bed. Doctor's orders."

Growling in rage, Buddy smacked his rocket pack on and aimed for the third story. There was still a hole where that freak of a hillbilly had smashed out of the gala. If he could make it there, he could make it-

Momakase called for backup, and Syndrome knew he had only seconds. He spun, twirling through the air in order to maneuver the kludged-together, clunky jet through the hole.

Syndrome felt a cold joy for the first time in months as he blasted through the opening with only a few cuts and scrapes from broken glass and twisted metal. He gained height over the gala, looking out over the neon skyline of Vegas at night. All he had to do was reach an Omnidroid- any Omnidroid not bricked by that hell chip. It would know its master and obey. It-

Buddy's rocket pack began to splutter and smoke.

"No- No!" Buddy screamed in impotent rage, looking behind him. In the midst of the spinning, the tattered remains of his cape had gotten trapped within his pack's exhaust valve. With a final, terminal cough, the pack died. Ever so slowly, an era ended, and a titan plummeted to Earth.

Syndrome caught sight of his gala's Omnidroids as he fell. Broken, abandoned things, left to rust in the courtyard after falling from grace. He sneered, and awaited the end.

It came in the form of two strong arms, resolute as steel, catching him out of the air. Syndrome howled in pain as the impact, compensated as it was, drove the breath from his body.

"I must admit, I'm impressed." Sinatron said as he hovered over the Sands. "Just when I thought you'd gone bust, you scraped a few more chips together and went all in."

"I'll kill you." Syndrome said between clenched teeth, trying to turn his improvised laser on the robot.

"Well well." Sinatron said, easily ripping Syndrome's last tool from his hands and tossing it carelessly towards the earth. "Even while I was carrying you. It's true what they say about scorpions."

"This isn't over! I-"

"Oh I think it is."

Sinatron slowly hovered down to the ground, carrying Syndrome back into the Sands. Momakase, Voyd, and the other supers watched in silence as he landed. "You know what your problem is Buddy? You work alone."

Syndrome glared at him with loathing.

"Tell me honestly. Do you think anyone back in your big fancy boardroom really cares if you get free? Do you have one son, wife, mother, cousin, one solitary friend that might care enough to break you out?"

Sinatron let Syndrome collapse to the ground. His head turned slightly as he registered the song playing over the atrium's speakers. "You bit off more than you could chew, you mangy dog. And you took the blows. But at least you did it your way, eh? Always hated that song. Selfish. Preening. Narcissistic. Just like you.

"You think you're better than me?!?!" Syndrome screamed. "You think these filthy supers won't just abandon you once you're an inconvenience?!?!"

Sinatron extricated one hand and punched Buddy Pine in the face.

"You know you're right." The robot said, servos whirring as he shook his wrist. "Much as I hate to say it. Funds are running out. And I don't trust some of these fine folks to stick around when the getting's good. No offense."

"None taken." Momakase replied evenly.

"An' besides, I don't want em' takin a bullet for me when the time comes. No, you're right. I need a few more pals if I don't want to end up like you did. Lucky me, you got plenty a' enemies."

"Who did thish to me?" Syndrome slurred through a broken jaw. "Shego?!? Supers?!? Who?!?"

"Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it was me."

Sinatron waited a moment to enjoy things.

"Oh, I know what you mean, pal. But now why would I tell you that, you rotten piece of shit?"

Syndrome howled again.

"What I will tell you." Sinatron said, walking over to a nearby pool table and picking up a creased newspaper, "Is who's running your company."

Sinatron happily held up a copy of the Review-Journal. On the cover were the Deavor siblings, smiling for the camera. Evelyn's smile was gentle and reserved, while Winston was caught sobbing with joy.

"That's right Buddy. Looks like your Board have given you up for dead. Kronos has new management; more agreeable management. Management ready to give guys like me a fair shake."

Syndrome saw red. He flailed pointlessly at the feet of the android, who stepped backwards disdainfully.

"Funny old world, isn't it. One minute you're top a tha' heap, next, here's to the losers."

Sinatron leaned down. "I suppose that's all I wanted to say Buddy. World's moving on. The best is yet to come and, I promise you… we'll get along without you very well."

Sinatron left Buddy lying on the floor of the casino, walking slowly out to gaze down over the city of Las Vegas. The lights of the Strip shone down upon a rusting Omnidroid. The supers slowly gathered around him.

"Rest 'a you better make preparations to vamoose. Things are gonna be changing around here, one way or another."

"We all shared a night I'll never forget. Ask me now, there's not a thing I regret." Mass replied.

"…What about you?" Voyd asked after a moment.

"I'm doing the smart thing, sweetheart. I'm folding."

Sinatron looked out at the twinkling neon.

"After all. That's the only way to draw a new hand."

[X] Plan Eat Your Vegetables

Wonder what problem the government is gonna throw Agent Russ towards?

I dislike the Golden Age addition mainly due to the Norm Prime bit.

[X] Plan Eat Your Vegetables, With Golden Age Hego

I'm not really worried about anything bad happening to Hego, aside from possible being covered in garbage.
