On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

uh. You know... ... What do you guys think about making this a tradition? How many times have we done this in total now? Was it just once or more like two or three times before. There was the Underway, and before that there was... the outfitting of the Hold's warriors... and maybe the Foundry district was also such a collaboration, maybe. So that's 3 or 4 times in 2 centuries huh? Repetition, care, ritual, and prestige... is the birth of tradition, no? So why not make this a tradition.

A festival or Runemoot.

A once-or-twice-a-century thing, maybe. Depending on how dire the circumstance or situation. Or depending on if there's a need for it for the hold. For a decade, Runesmiths will more or less work towards a singular goal or to address a Hold-sized or Kingdom-sized problem.

Frequency of how often it'll happen will depend on the circumstances, and we'll need to be mindful of things, and allow for individuality and take-your-own-approach-to-this (instead just encouraging everybody to aim in roughly the same direction, rather than trying to get everybody to do the exact same thing) and so on, but... What do people think? If we can make it something the Runesmiths will look forward to, as something that celebrates the religious craft or brings them prestige, then -- it'd be a lot easier to do.
Probably only get popular in the North and with Radicals, but that's fine.

[X] [Battle] Stay by the Bolt Thrower: you'll guard the siege engine firing Dragon's Spite with the Group of Huskarls and Runesmiths assigned to the task, making sure no sabotage or destruction can come upon by tricksy daemons. It means you aren't close enough to aid Otrek with your weapons OR your runes.

[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator: Use it, train it on Kholek, though it will mean it won't be firing at the other Dragon Ogres present, and must still hit Kholek. +70 to Hit on Kholek, you won't see these rolls but +35 killing Dragon Ogres.

Even if they do try and get at the Retaliator, how would they? The Griffons have the skies and we still have plenty of aerial defense vis a vis crossbows and normal bolt throwers. They almost certainly can't port in, between the Runes on the walls, the Silver Wyrm Banner, and Master Runesmiths around it for dispel duty for some reason porting doesn't count as magic(and why wouldn't it?)

That leaves a conventional assault, which would have to get past the defenses in front of the thrower, the throng, King Otrek, and us. And if it's a Daemon they're going to be burning.

And if they somehow get there, Master Runesmiths and Gromril rune-inscribed elite warriors await them, with no magic to assist in an attack.

Goddammit, EVA, swaying me with your logic! Fine. But if this all goes to hell I'm blaming you.

Also, ty for the explanation.

[X] [Battle] Join Otrek: You entrust your weapon's safety to the Huskarls and Master Runesmiths guarding it. You are no prodigious fighter, but your Runes and if need be, your axe, will be useful regardless. Otrek and the King of the Skies will need all the help they can get.

We're not a very big name.

Maybe a big name, but not on that tier.
I'm pretty sure we're on (or going to be on) Hashut's list (along with potentially other Chaos Gods) by the end of this. Remember that we are the runelord that crafted an artifact that empowered the Ancestors to the point where Hashut couldn't automaticaly lay claim to the to-be Chaos Dwarfs.

See the 'Fate once trod' and 'Fate denys you' buff and debuff in that roll. If the 'empowered beyond expectation' buff hadn't been present, it wouldn't have mattered what the rolls were; the dwarfs would have belonged to Hashut as per Fate's decree (Tzeentch: "I'm just that good"). The fact that they aren't (and might not ever be now) derails a lot of 'preordained' things for Chaos. With this we have graduated from 'minor variable that can be easily dealt with' (buffing the Norscan holds etc) to 'annoyance/problem'.

So, is it possible to close warp portals, and if so who can do it/how do we do it. Either that, or is there any way to shrink them, block them, or significantly slow the rate of demons coming through them?

Just want to know if there is anyone in existence who could stop Grimnir from having to go north and stand at the portal killing forever, or if that is set in stone

THIS FAR! AND NO FURTHER!

Wow, Snorri accidentally discovered a way to empower the ancestors ? Did he sniff out this rune too with the ridiculously lucky nose of his ?

I am guessing that the other Runesmiths will be paying close attention to our banner and soon attempting their own versions.

EVA's logic convinced me.

[X] [Thrower] The Reckoner: Its strike will deal terrible damage, but it must hit. Less damage than the Retaliator, but it leaves the other Bolt Thrower free to kill the other Dragon Ogres with abandon. +50 to first Hit.

[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator:

We need to stall Kholek as long as possible without anyone dying between the King of Skies, Otrek, and Yorri so that we get the best shot.

I want to see Otrek and The King of the Skies survive this encounter, if there's any choice that will see that through it's to join them. Fear of his own death is not a part of Snorri's character nor how I think most want to play him and their is already an element of risk in standing by the Throwers to defend them anyway. I say we trust the Huscarls and master Runesmiths to protect the bolt-throwers long enough to do their part and that Snorri instead stand by and aid his king.

Also we'll get to see the battle in the story in a way we wouldn't if we sat back.

This lucky roll also gives us some time to dig an underway tunnel east.
Hopefully when the invasion dies down, traders from the east will make contact again and work can begin in earnest.
I think this is the biggest butterfly so far

And here I thought warhammer fantasy seemed less grim than 40k.

That said, the process of making adamant involved removing the taint of Chaos - maybe that could lead to a solution?

Chaos isn't memetic in WHF. Just knowing about the big 4 doesn't damn near immediately damn your soul unless you have a strong will. It's a couple more steps to get corrupted in WHF. So yeah, WHF isn't near as grim dark as WH40k where just knowing the names of the big 4 enemies just about corrupts you.

It's still pretty bad in some cases, where bad shit just happens, but again, it's a lot better than 40k.

Just...intensely feel that on a battlefield with Tzeentch and Slaanesh's joint attentions on it, and us relying on a single piece item vulnerable to damage to land the strike of averting fate...the question is not whether they're going to toss a force(literally or via portal) to it, but when and how.

I suspect the memetic corruption thing might actually be amplified by the Imperium's situation. Theres little reason for them NOT to go mad realizing that their entire civilization does nothing to stop it and that they're fucked coming or going.

Not like the various aliens ever seem to be as vulnerable until the Imperium shows up, aside from the Eldar's orgies(and even then only to one specific fork of the Four).

Watsonian: Assuming there's no way for chaos gods to successfully intervene, when one of them is Tzeentch, is a good way to get blindsided.

Doylist: I don't think the option would be given to us if it was pointless. I think opposing dice rolls will abound and this will determine where Snorri is contributing to them.
