On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] [Battle] Join Otrek: You entrust your weapon's safety to the Huskarls and Master Runesmiths guarding it. You are no prodigious fighter, but your Runes and if need be, your axe, will be useful regardless. Otrek and the King of the Skies will need all the help they can get.
[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator: Use it, train it on Kholek, though it will mean it won't be firing at the other Dragon Ogres present, and must still hit Kholek. +70 to Hit on Kholek, you won't see these rolls but +35 killing Dragon Ogres.

Maximize Fuck Kholek. Chaos crumples when their champions die. We need him DEAD.

[X] [Battle] Stay by the Bolt Thrower: you'll guard the siege engine firing Dragon's Spite with the Group of Huskarls and Runesmiths assigned to the task, making sure no sabotage or destruction can come upon by tricksy daemons. It means you aren't close enough to aid Otrek with your weapons OR your runes.
[X [Thrower] The Reckoner: Its strike will deal terrible damage, but it must hit. Less damage than the Retaliator, but it leaves the other Bolt Thrower free to kill the other Dragon Ogres with abandon. +50 to first Hit.

I trust Otrek and Yorri and Demigod Griffin King. Yorri probably has weird runes that Snorri knows and expects so he should trust Yorri as well. Ensuring the safety of whichever bolt thrower uses our super bolt is what will make or break that fight.

Like I said, I prefer the shot coming from stealth. Leaving the retaliator taking potshots at the other dragon ogres to prevent them from koolaiding the walls and making it harder for the dwarfs to defend.
You're missing the ] on the second X

Pretty crazy rolls. Gonna be very interesting to see how this all plays out. Anyhow, I'm personally not that worried about the siege weapon getting wrecked, possible they'll know to target it due to divination but it should be tough.

On the other hand...any Daemons that try to get to the Bolt Thrower will have to do it without magic, while burning, and against Banner empowered Huskarls...is there any tricksy daemon stuff that can even be done there? Because I don't think power overload is an issue.

Actually, that may be the unique function of the special combo. The Ancestors get the excess magic offloaded on them, so no overloading on magic.

The Dwarves could probably make a better go at settling the Dark Lands, as that is where the Chaos Dwarves resided before, but going further east into those Eastern mountains will prove problematic. There is weird stuff in the Mountains of Mourn, with massive Sky Giants and what not. And even if the Dwarves could deal with the Sky giants, which may or may not exist, who really knows, then there is the problem of the Ogres. Ogres are a problem, even if their God of hunger hasn't been created and sent them West yet, which can't be easily dealt with because of their massive size and large numbers.
In canon there are or were Dwarves hold in the Mountains of Mourn. This is what it said on the wiki Mountains of Mourn
Dwarfs
- Following rumors about a mountain made of pure gold, several dwarven expeditions crossed the Dark Lands and settled in the Mountains of Mourn to search for it.
Karak Vrag, Karak Azorn and Karak Krakaten were founded during this time, but had to be abandoned after constant attacks from Ogres. The few surviving ones are well-hidden from every outsider.

[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator

Huh. You know... ... What do you guys think about making this a tradition? How many times have we done this in total now? Was it just once or more like two or three times before. There was the Underway, and before that there was... the outfitting of the Hold's warriors... and maybe the Foundry district was also such a collaboration, maybe. So that's 3 or 4 times in 2 centuries huh? Repetition, care, ritual, and prestige... is the birth of tradition, no? So why not make this a tradition.

A festival or Runemoot.

A once-or-twice-a-century thing, maybe. Depending on how dire the circumstance or situation. Or depending on if there's a need for it for the hold. For a decade, Runesmiths will more or less work towards a singular goal or to address a Hold-sized or Kingdom-sized problem.

Frequency of how often it'll happen will depend on the circumstances, and we'll need to be mindful of things, and allow for individuality and take-your-own-approach-to-this (instead just encouraging everybody to aim in roughly the same direction, rather than trying to get everybody to do the exact same thing) and so on, but... What do people think? If we can make it something the Runesmiths will look forward to, as something that celebrates the religious craft or brings them prestige, then -- it'd be a lot easier to do.

That does sound like a pretty interesting idea! Though I'm not sure how we'd go about making it into a tradition. More attempts like the ones you listed?

When you attack a demigod you don't hold back or it will survive to kill you. These is a perfect opportunity for a demonstration of more dawi is better.

Hey. If Master Yorri came with the King of the Skies... Does that mean he's going to join the fight against Kholek? Would joining King Otrek and the King of the Skies, mean we find to our surprise that Master Yorri is also there? Or, where is Yorri going to go, @soulcake?
.....Okay. Why and how the fuck was Master Yorri all the way out in the North by his lonesome, besides the Gronti he had, and not dead?
I wonder if he was by the number 10 thing in the Odd Places quest chain. Or otherwise was just going to be revealed if we finished off the Odd Places quest chain. Or maybe... once the Odd Places chain gets finished, it gets replaced with another chain? (Like all the Rune Metal research.)

Like. Snorri finally makes it to the last thing waiting on the list and -- surprise, Master Yorri's there! Possibly because the 10th thing was something actively good or beneficial for a Runelord to stay at and make use of. Hence why he parked himself there. He was spending his time researching it and investigating it and all.

Also:
The dwarf grunts, "That was two centuries of work down the shitter. What's the plan?"
This sentence would probably result in 'Nam flashbacks and long faces from Runelords.

'Ah yes. That time where you have to suddenly sacrifice something you spent a century or two figuring out, planning, investigating, uncovering, mastering, paying so much money for ingredients and materials for, finally making, improving and making more equipment for...'
'That is a deep pain.'

If Kraka Drakk and the other Holds are to survive, the dwarves must kill Kholek. Literally nothing else is as important in this battle. He is the Champion of Chaos for this conflict and central to the ruinous powers plans to take the north. The other Dragon Ogres are threats yes, but not to the extent of the Suneater and his death will hopefully break their morale. Even if it doesn't, it still removes Chaos's strongest pawn from the board.

No, they;ll wait for Kholek where they're obviously strongest. Its a question of can they keep him still/pin him there when he arrives and not let him break through multiple layers.
Ah, I see. Whelp, the weapon won't be exposed, so lets go with Otrek.

We can always find a second shot, we can't find a second Otrek.
