On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

That... had a 70% chance of success for Hashut, so it wasn't exactly utterly shocking for it to fail and for the Dwarfs to succeed instead, it wasn't an impossible and unbelievable event... But the way it happened -- with a 1 versus a 100 -- was, indeed, shocking. o_O
If not for our Banner, and possibly deploying it at a very specific time (either not too soon or not too late or both) it would have been a literally impossible and unbelievable event.

Oh, nice, also, if that is the case then fate really did want to deny the Ancestors here, without that "unexpected power" even rolling a 100 and Hashut rolling a 1, Hashut still would have won by 1

[x] [Battle] Join Otrek: You entrust your weapon's safety to the Huskarls and Master Runesmiths guarding it. You are no prodigious fighter, but your Runes and if need be, your axe, will be useful regardless. Otrek and the King of the Skies will need all the help they can get.

[x] [Thrower] The Retaliator: Use it, train it on Kholek, though it will mean it won't be firing at the other Dragon Ogres present, and must still hit Kholek. +70 to Hit on Kholek, you won't see these rolls but +35 killing Dragon Ogres.

The Dwarves could probably make a better go at settling the Dark Lands, as that is where the Chaos Dwarves resided before, but going further east into those Eastern mountains will prove problematic. There is weird stuff in the Mountains of Mourn, with massive Sky Giants and what not. And even if the Dwarves could deal with the Sky giants, which may or may not exist, who really knows, then there is the problem of the Ogres. Ogres are a problem, even if their God of hunger hasn't been created and sent them West yet, which can't be easily dealt with because of their massive size and large numbers.
Yes, but they're also sane right now, we could reasonably negotiate with the Ogres when we meet them because the Great Maw hasn't been created yet, and the Sky Titans are a very good ally we could have since they would be the first "advanced" ally we'd have, as they can make cannons before the dwarves can, and they are pretty smart. That's not mentioning the fact that having giants and ogres on our side would be good just because of their sheer size, I'd want ogre and titan enclaves in the north. Aren't ogres semi resistant to chaos (not fully, but more so than humans) or am I misremembering.

Really do want ogre allies though, they would be great for their size and muscle, even if they aren't smart.

@soulcake Does the Silver Wyrm Banner go where we go?

If we're carrying the Banner, it might be a very effective weapon against Kholek on its own due to its counter-magic and protective benefits.

[X] [Battle] Stay by the Bolt Thrower
[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator

Well this is definitely a battle where legends are made. This update and the presumably the coming ones feel very epic and appropriate.

[X] [Battle] Stay by the Bolt Thrower: you'll guard the siege engine firing Dragon's Spite with the Group of Huskarls and Runesmiths assigned to the task, making sure no sabotage or destruction can come upon by tricksy daemons. It means you aren't close enough to aid Otrek with your weapons OR your runes.

[X] [Thrower] The Reckoner: Its strike will deal terrible damage, but it must hit. Less damage than the Retaliator, but it leaves the other Bolt Thrower free to kill the other Dragon Ogres with abandon. +50 to first Hit.

Bit less of a bonus to hitting Kholek but not terribly much, and the gap is made up by the Retaliator fucking over the other Dragon Ogres. Staying by the Bolt Thrower to make certain nothing prevents this shot from going off.

I am not certain why they would be better avle ti settle the Dark lands. I suppose they may end up reclaiming karak Vlag after it falls to chaos, but the hold is lost. To be honest, I find the likelihood of them reclaiming a hold in the Dark Lands small, so it likely won't effect that. It will however, majorly effect the effectiveness of chaos army's, since they won't have a good producer of gear and war machines and of course the Black Orks won't be effected. But I find it doubtful that we will see much expansion in the Dark lands since the hold is lost, and I find it likely that the king of the hold will not survive, meaning there is no one to lead the crusade to reclaim it. I could be wrong though, and they might indeed reclaim the hold once the Golden Age begins, since it didn't dissapear like it did in Canon. So we might see some more expansion in the east, but they will first have to reclaim the hold, decide who rules it and all that.

I'm just wondering about other long-term threats to Dwarves, if we've butterflied away several major tragedies in this age.

[X] [Battle] Stay by the Bolt Thrower
[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator

Yeah let's stay by the bolt thrower so the shot can hit that monster. We should put our faith into our king and the Adamant armour we forged for him!

[X] [Battle] Join Otrek
[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator

Yeah I'm voting to join that epic fight. We might save our Lord or that Griffon from dying too early!

Let's help Otrek to ensure our bolt thrower can get a clean shot.

It stays where it is, Otrek wont be fighting outside of its range regardless.

[X] [Battle] Stay by the Bolt Thrower
[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator

I wonder whether a Omake bonus can be applied to this shot, with an Omake related to the Artillery in this battle.

Seeing as the Throng and King aren't, as I first feared, marching out to fight in the open field as opposed to these nice walls we put so much effort into?

[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator

The Reckoner will still have its Rangerstrike against Kholek per word of GM, even if it isn't as powerful.

My hope is the horde realizes the threat attacks the Bolt Thrower and therefore doesn't attack Otrek as much. Hopefully we don't die.

I trust Otrek and Yorri and Demigod Griffin King. Yorri probably has weird runes that Snorri knows and expects so he should trust Yorri as well. Ensuring the safety of whichever bolt thrower uses our super bolt is what will make or break that fight.

Like I said, I prefer the shot coming from stealth. Leaving the retaliator taking potshots at the other dragon ogres to prevent them from koolaiding the walls and making it harder for the dwarfs to defend.
