On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Well, the sooner the King of the Skies gets us our reagent, the sooner we can use it. It doesn't cost us any actions until we actually do the armor.

The issue is we'd probably have to do the armor immediately after he gets us our reward to not risk anger at the delay.

[X] Plan Metal and Secret Brotherhoods.

Personally I'm 100% against making the request for the griffon until we complete the rather substantial amount of commissions we already have in the pipeline for the royal family.

You know I wish we'd be able to see the looks on the faces of the Brotherhood of Dron when they get the letter and package. Because they no doubt sent said task expecting it to take a couple of centuries or so.
Instead within a year they'll have a bar of Adamant on their desk along with Snorri's letter stating he'd figured it out a couple of decades ago and currently is working on streamlining the forging process.

Collective Brotherhood of Dron: "Wat?"

That's a moment where the people who are older than Kraggi go "Goddammit man, you blew all the mystique out the window!"

"He missed the Hints, how was I supposed to know!?" -Kraggi, maybe.

But yes it'd be entertaining at the very least.

I don't know if it would be considered childish to do the letter, even in full professional capacity, but at the very least they'll be able to judge we had it done prior to the letter based on some calculations after they get the Adamant extremely quickly.

Master Rune of Gromril, Rune of Preservation, Rune of Sanctuary

  • Master Rune of Gromril - The armour becomes near inviolate to battle damage, nothing short of the most titanic blows can force it to move or contort.
  • Rune of Preservation - When Prince Valkan Firehand was decapitated by a Wight Blade at the Battle of Hunger Wood, many Runesmiths were alarmed at an apparent weakness in Dwarf armour. Their answer was to use rune magic to add extra protection to those parts of the armour that could not be made any thicker.
  • Rune of Sanctuary - This rune magnifies the natural anti-magic aura that already resides inside each Dwarf.

So, these are the runes you're using for armour, for anyone curious. Really, you've got anti magic, enhancing the armour and protecting the joints and 'weaker parts'. Not really sure what I would change for a runeset unless we really wanted to get specific for them. One set with a spell eater combo and the other with damn near complete physical immunity.

@BungieONI
Wouldn't we technically not have the Rune of Preservation, since it was made by someone else after the creation of Necromancy in its fluff?

Pretty much. Like I said there the idea is to Protect From Titanic Blows, Preserve Their Lives, and Enhance their Natural Anti-Magic. Something like "This armor shall be blessed with the ideal of inviolability" for the Master Rune, "This thing shall be preserved through all ills" for the Rune of Preservation, and "Magic shall not touch this stony sanctuary" for the Rune of Sanctuary.

Mix that on industrial and slap it together to get "This armor shall be inviolable and bless its wearer with a life preserving sanctuary". Or in another way, a bunker in armor form. I'm really hoping that Sanctuary resonates with the anti-magic nature of Adamant.

It's been referenced as occurring on casks, like our Dragonblood back when.

what part of a gryphon has dwarf anti-magic aura?

[X] Plan Metal and Secret Brotherhoods.

All this cavalry talk became annoying a while ago. It's out of character for the dwarves you're playing as. Like straight up, the griffons can do the cavalry thing on their own once there's an alliance since they are sapient. They don't need dwarves to ride them to do the job aerial cavalry does in setting. And bringing them into the alliance is Otrek's job, which the quest specifically voted against nominating Snorri for.

You know, it probably says more about Snorri than our progress or the quality of their hints that even having already done it, we don't understand their hints.

I mean, just because one knows how to do something doesn't mean one can write a poem full of prose about the process, for example.

Yeah, that's my take on it too. He's just... intuitive about it after a long and hard process? So it just skipped right past his ears.

Huginn and Muninn. Thought and Memory. Nice.
Yep. :)
And we wouldn't have room for anything else, I don't think.

But if we could pull it off...
I don't really see a point for it, there's no rush for the Griffon armor. It's not like he's gonna die just going about his life, he's been doing it for a significant period of time that must be at least several decades. More than a century if the King of the Skies is the first Griffon to consume a greedy troll, which seems likely given his size.
Probably some multi-quote error cropped up, as the post you're quoting is talking solely about Otrek and his son's armors. (The other part of your post was quoting a Griffon quote, so, hence my thinking it's some multi-quote snarl.)

I've been thinking that Rune Metal Part 5 would be "Discover the Master Rune of Adamant" and so I was lamenting the fact that we couldn't rush out and finish Part 5 so King Otrek's and his son's armors would be made of Adamant and have the Master Rune of Adamant both; it would feel like a very cool thing, you know? Not only our first work of adamant, but also using its Master Rune too. It would be quite a legend.

Unfortunately, the only way I saw that working is if we went all-in on Rune Metal Part 4 with all 5 Actions. Followed by another 5-action all-in the next turn.

Except we can't be sure that there's a Rune Metal Part 5 (though it seemed a reasonable guess to me, once I remembered "Oh hey, the Master Rune of Adamant is a thing! Maybe that'll be further ahead in the chain?") or how exactly it would work out so...

But on the other hand, I really want to make our 2 special armors made of Adamant and with the rune of Adamant on them too...
