If your stress track overflows, you get Taken Out, and are at the mercy of the winner. I invite you to contemplate the idea of getting Taken Out by Orochimaru.

I can't imagine he'd be good dinner conversation, though knowing Jiraiya and Tsunade, he might have decent tastes in drinks, and we can talk about research ideas I guess (though talking about work all night is sure to exhaust us). Is this like more of a casual thing or do we have to wear formal attire? What about reservations, I assume he has those covered?

I don't think it means anything to canonise something that is by definition an AU.

As for powergaming memories of alternate timelines, I would be entirely up for that if you collectively signed a waiver accepting that any and all mental trauma Hazō undergoes in those timelines also transfers to the present one. And a remarkable number of those Hazōs are working as Orochimaru's apprentices, or were until their stress tracks exploded.
You are offering us the opportunity for nigh-infinite TYS points, when TYS points convert almost directly to power on our part.

Is this supposed to make us think twice?

Giving a like to this post represents signing a waiver accepting that any and all mental trauma Hazō undergoes in alternate timelines also transfers to the present one conditional on us being able to powergame memories from said timelines.

Q!Hazuo = Our best boi
N!Hazuo = any hazuo from other time streams.

If N!Hazuo gets taken out by N!Oro and that transfers to Q!Hazuo, wouldn't we be shielded from being forced to do as N!Oro wants because he doesn't know we exist?

Imagine Q!Hazuo is stalking Q!Oro, and miraculously Oro never passes a check to notice us. Q!Hazuo gets insanely stressed from watching human experimentation, his atress tracks fill, and gets taken out. Q!Oro can't make use of this, because he doesn't know hazuo is there to begin with.

It has been decades since Orochimaru had any reservations.

You do remember what TYS points stand for in-universe, right? Farming them will shoot you straight past Kagome territory and into Madara "Let's all live in a happy genjutsu forever" territory.

In fact, the narrative implications of attempting to powergame your own insanity are great. We'd get to write a Call of Cthulhu campaign--and everyone knows what happens to your first characters in a Call of Cthulhu campaign.

Where does Mother Nana fall on that scale?
If anyone can ground us from flying off into the crazy Out, I'd think it would be her and her ability to open us to love and joy from our (native) world while we dipped a metaphorical toe in the out instead swimming into the multiverse.

And she's on something, right? That's not just her being high off life?

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail I think there's an error when counting the skills pyramid for Noburi's character sheet: The formula you're using for the "30-39" level references "EarthJutsu" instead of "WaterJutsu", meaning Noburi's Syrup Trap and Vampiric Dew skills (all in the 30s) aren't counted.

Edit: Similar thing's going on with Keiko's character sheet: "1-9" misspells "WindJutsu" as "WindJuts" and "10-19" references "FireJutsu", not "WindJutsu".
Fixed, thanks. I checked for all of Hazō, Noburi, Akane, and Keiko.

+1 XP for being helpful. :)

Also, I almost forgot: +10 XP for spending October being the epically useful Loremaster that you are.

Okay so I just ran the numbers and with the XP infusion EJ gave us right there we have enough XP to get Noburi up to CR 21 (and Deceit/Intimidation 10 for AB purposes), which should be high enough CR to cast Shadow Clone!

And that means that if Kabuto's results are favourable we can teach Noburi Shadow Clone effective immediately.

Did nobby already buy the summoner perk?

We don't need to worry about that, and here's why:
  • Noburi hasn't even been cleared for Summoning yet, we're also waiting on Kabuto for that.
  • To become a Summoner you need to spend months training for it, and Noburi will generate well more than 250 XP during that time.
  • You only have to purchase the Summoner stunt at the end of your training.
Put that together and every XP Noburi gains before starting Summoning training is 100% up for grabs, and some of the XP gained within Summoning training too but we can be more careful there.

And since Noburi hasn't started his training yet, all of his current XP is 100% up for grabs.

Question out of genuine curiosity: Does Noburi need to increase CR to be at SC-level? He's already at Jiraiya's guideline of "can summon 2 of Keiko's big Pangolins and still have enough left over to fight"...

At level 10 CR he has 500 Chakra, but 167 available for his own jutsu, the equivalent of CR 16-17 in anyone else.

At level 21 CR he has 1050 Chakra and 350 available for his own jutsu, the equivalent of CR 35 (our goal) in anyone else.

> Vel is offering a clearly Faustian bargain

Hmm... Need more information. For example: can we absorb Good End peggy sues? Do we learn seals/jutsu the peggy sues knew? When we download a Bad End peggy sue, to what degree can we mitigate the impact on Hazou's personality? (ie. will he start rejecting plans premised upon idealism?)

I'm not opposed to Going Full Madara, I just want it to be for the right reasons, and to be a good trade-off, should we decide on it.

So, what do we do next?
  • Noburi's out getting intel on Orochimaru, so we shouldn't do Oro 2 Electric Surgery yet.
  • Mari's looking into getting our refund, so we shouldn't go shopping for estates until we know how that goes.
  • We may need temporary housing while things get sorted out.
  • We need to talk to Kabuto.
  • We need to ask Keiko if inducting Naruto into Team Uplift directly would satisfy the Pangolins (we can do this now, actually, we haven't left).
  • Forbidden Lore, but this deserves a full update (or more) so we should just prepare it.
So here's a protoplan from me:

Protoplan: It Begins
  • Before we go, ask Keiko whether the Pangolins care what Naruto's last name is.
    • Maybe if we induct him into Team Uplift directly, that'll be enough for them?
  • Go talk to Kabuto
    • It sure is delightful that Orochimaru returned to Leaf safe and sound.
    • Our deal is, of course, void. Would you mind if we started from a blank slate?
    • By the way, how's the study of Noburi coming along?
  • Scout out more temporary housing for when the Nara's generosity ends.
    • Look into more permanent options too in case Mari's efforts don't bear fruit. Can we afford the Shimura Estate? If not, what else has the housing capabilities we need?
  • Set up the Forbidden Lore meeting:
    • Do we have any anti-Byakugan seals left?
    • Where's the safest place to do this?
    • Do we include Naruto?
This is a bit barebones, but I'm mainly laying out what I think are the major topics worth covering (as opposed to the even more important topics we have to wait for)

This chapter gives a lot of peace ideas, even if a bit outdated.
Also, realized when Jiraiya said that we needed the Pangolin money that he could have just started spending his nest egg. Guess he wasn't willing to do so.
