Alright, time for another attempt.

@eaglejarl, you previously promised that if we don't want it to, no update for this IC week will involve a timeskip longer than two hours. Does this still hold? If yes, I vote we spend some time on mid-term plans:

[x] Action Plan: "More Like a Cobweb, Really"
Timeline (main section): Immediately after Chapter 267.
Wordcount: 299.

  • Retroactively: Has Keiko finalized the cancellation yet? If not, ask if she'd like to have a clan discussion on how to optimize it.
  • Find Noburi. Give him Goemon's coded sealing notes. Suggest he spends a couple of hours trying to decode them.
    • These are love letters, and other sealmasters failed in decoding them — perhaps the code is, implausibly, rooted in romance?
    • No, not a joke. If he succeeds, he should go find us immediately.
  • Get Mari, Kagome, some paper, a quill, a watch. Go into a high-security room (anti-hyuuga seals, etc.).
    • The Nara have a habit: spending five minutes each day contemplating how an enemy might be planning to destroy them.
    • Try out an extended one-hour version. Can we find any overlooked but fixable vulnerabilities?
    • Idea #1: People going around disguised as us, poisoning relations with merchants. How easy would it be? As a turnaround, could we disguise ourselves as, say, Aburame, and cause chaos?
    • Take extensive notes. Mind the clock. Make a brief transcript of the meeting and your stream-of-consciousness. How do you think about things? Perhaps the Nara are onto something with metacognition.
    • Discuss everything thoroughly.
  • Share the BotG briefing with them.
    • What's Kagome's take on it?
      • RESURRECTION TECHNIQUE.
      • What was Pain's goal?
      • What are "the Five"?
      • What happened to the three lost bijuu?
      • What was their book about? Who wrote it?
      • <your suggestion here>
    • Mari:
      • Why is no-one panicking, given that we're on Akatsuki's complete mercy?
      • Can we grab their profiles?
      • Treason aside, how insane would it be to contact (any of) them? If they're idealists seeking peace "the hard way", you have suggestions...
  • Update Mari on Ami:
    • Can we sell her any rare information for favours?
    • Should you spend a favour to enlist her help with the elections? Open-ended "maximize our personal influence on Leaf's politics"?

Include an Ami-style training and I'll vote for it. I'd also appreciate a return of the "maximise our social competence" suggestion for Ami's favour.

@MMKII

To be clear, you think Deidara is interested in saving lives?

I don't think that you stand around facing the largest alliance ever gathered in history and pass on the rain check for that fight unless you have some actual deep-seated character motivation for making Pain's very clear "Save the World" gambit succeed in one way or another.

If he just wanted to watch the potential explosion in the aftermath, he could've been sitting a few miles up and to the right on his flying bird. Ditto for any other meme motivations.

I think Deidara's vision of a perfect world isn't incompatible with working towards goals that would end up saving lives at present.

Former: Link to a list, or a specific suggestion?
Latter: In a moment.
I'm assuming this is regarding getting Akatsuki's profiles, but IIRC that was also in the briefing (save for Pein's)?
It includes the abilities they displayed during the fight, not their personal histories, information about past encounters with them, psychological profiles, etc.

Training Ideas
  • Spend exactly one minute in a shop. Memorise every product being sold. Do not draw attention to yourself.
  • Get five people to owe you favours without spending significant resources.
  • Convince a ninja that a crazy conspiracy theory is true.
  • Learn the birthdays of five chunin outside your social circle without them finding out.
  • Teach Lee basic social skills.
  • Manipulate three people into starting arguments with others in a way that doesn't get traced back to you.
  • Learn the favourite colours of every Leaf jonin.
  • Create a civilian fanclub for a randomly selected ninja.
  • Learn Medknow/Mednin 1 from the hospital without anyone figuring out who you are.
  • Spar with [insert jonin here].
  • Hold a ten minute conversation with Anko without displaying any outward signs of loss of composure.
  • Draw a map of leaf from scratch. The map should show all roads and places of interest.
  • Experience three different jonin auras.
  • Spend the entire day without using your left arm or leg.
  • Mimic the personality/speech-style of some other person (Mari/Noburi/Sakura/etc.) in all social interactions.

[x] Action Plan: "More Like a Cobweb, Really"

In case you have any trouble thinking up ideas for Ami style training:

So, training ideas.
Jump rope, but on the ceiling/walls.

Meditation while Lee is being his most YOUTHFUL in your general vicinity. (Should probably be done after offering our condolences, and probably after telling him about the training plan)

Meditation while chakra-adhering to Lee as he runs around Leaf (or while he does The Floor Is Larva for extra challenge).

Substitution tag. No one can move in any way except by substitution.

Mental fortitude training. Ask Keiko to hit us with her fear aura while we hang upside down from a tree branch over a lake/river. Try not to get wet.

Deception training. Disguise yourself as well as you can (which is to say, very poorly), and convince people that you are *person you are disguised as* pretending to be Hazō, pretending to be *person you are disguised as*.

Constitution/empathy training. Eat a meal at that place you sent Keiko/Shikamaru to. Eat the whole thing, and think about just how much suffering you caused them.

Juggle chakra oranges. Without wearing protective gloves.

Draw (but don't infuse, you're not that dumb) explosive seals with one hand while sparring with the other.

Spar while singing "I am the very model of a modern ANBU general."

Training idea:
Have Keiko throw pointy things at you, while you balance a bowl of hot soup on your head.

Edit:
Thumb wrestle with Lee, while both of you are being tickled by Noburi.

So you would deduct XP if less than ten people vote?
Min of 0 bonus XP for this.

@eaglejarl Are you OK with writing a retroactive scene on the Hazou-Keiko meeting which was in the original plan but wasn't done? Velorien said it was OK but I just wanted to make sure with you.
Ugh. No, I do not want to write more retroactive stuff. Ask questions, we'll answer OOC.

So everyone actually knows there's seven Akatsuki members who were collectively strong enough to stand up to the five major villages' combined forces, still out there and doing who knows what, while said major villages are incredibly vulnerable and Kage-less? And nobody is panicking? There isn't an emergency meeting of the council to figure out how to prevent Konoha's destruction if the Akatsuki decide to attack in full force?

These people are nuts. We really, really need to drive this point home in every discussion with a clan head or Hokage candidate. We're currently living on Akatsuki's good will, and I suspect they don't have much left.
They may have split up.

They were out there for years and never attacked any village.

There are a few more immediate concerns.

the best plan is talk-no-jutsu, thanks to chunin exams we have more than enough information.
We are not going to out-social nor stop her(Best way to do so is going to Tsunade and warning her about Ami), but we can at least try to break her shell, Ami is extremely alone, and we know more about her than a fair amount of people, we can use this.
We just need to her interested in us enough to not hinder the clan, and works from there, until she's a member of Uplift.
I could be saying this because i would love to read that interaction between Hazou and Ami.
PSA: On any given Sunday, this is a max 0 XP plan.

It might be worth considerably more on any given Thursday...

Alright, time for another attempt.

That wasn't quite what I meant -- I'm not going to write Hazō sleeping, for example. Let's call it "unnecessary timeskip".

That said...*sigh* Fine. It's a pain in the tuckus, but I'll do it.

RIP retroactivity. Maybe we could just straight up ask her? Like, send a message or something.

Signs point to her probably cancelling the deal when we get the last shipment of gold. We probably have some time there?

Or just ask OOC:

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail

Did Keiko put the kebosh on the deal yet formally speaking? Asking in the interests of not messing with time again. Thanks in advance for any answers given! :)

With regard to Akatsuki, you possess the information from the briefing, as well as a bingo book listing their villages of origin plus a few encounters with Leaf ninja. No extensive dossiers are available for people who do their thing below the radar and/or leave no survivors, nor any further information or which you are aware.

Then be subtle about it, like say "Hey Keiko, I would love the chance to speak with further regarding optimizing that thing we spoke of earlier yesterday, if you are willing" or something.

Also @eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail I saw this in the QuINOA:
Q: Has Noburi scheduled and met with Kabuto regarding Summoning/SC interactions with his bloodline; if so, what were the results, if not, when will he?
A: See infopost in threadmarks.
But can't find the actual infopost answering this?

I don't think that the one-hour variant is a good idea. I mean, I fully expect it would send Kagome into conniptions.

Get slate and some chalk. Maybe even put up a MEW or two to use as a blackboard.

Related question: WHAT WAS AKATSUKI GOING TO DO
Do we know what is Akatsuki's plan, their motivation?

It seemed pretty clear that the plan was to remove all chakra from the world. This would seem to suggest that they either had given up on completing the original sage's failed attempt to introduce chakra, or were completing his original work of removing chakra. One can imagine how the traces left could lead Kagome to misunderstand the sage's project of removing chakra as the invention of it. If that's the case, what would the world have looked like before chakra was halfway obliterated?

Note that the GMs have said that Pain would have had combat power on par with the entire rest of Akatsuki combined had he been able to fight, and Pain's statements implied that if Tsunade weren't grievously wounded she would have been able to beat him single-handedly.

Now, counting on the disguised sage to defend Leaf from seven S-rankers might not be the best idea, but Leaf is probably in the best shape of all the nations if they decide to throw down.

More forbidden lore drops from Kagome are a pain in the tuckus? But you seemed so excited last time!

Actually, if you go back its unclear if that was a digression from his actual plan or not.

I think its 50/50 on Remove Chakra/Instrumentality Plot via jacking the Ninshou bandwidth way the hell up personally. Either way, boy is that some serious magic ninja bullshit they must have going on.
