Anyone else think that, if our plan is to continue, that we rob other Exam proctors of their stuff (and KO them in the process)? It accomplishes all of our goals (take out teams, make more money)...

Do we need to ask for an extension from @eaglejarl? I think we do. Either that, or a lore update.

Why? The logic for bunkering down and quitting while we're ahead hasn't changed since last vote.

[X] Action Plan: Lighthousing

Well that was fun. Let's sit out the rest of our time in the barracks after turning in our winnings and making it so that we're no longer risking tanking the whole event by getting our client killed.

We can work on our needlepoint or something in the meantime, maybe take a nap.

I think the plan to continue should involve scouting, linking up with other Leaf teams, and then deciding if we have a worthwhile enough target to pursue. KOing random clients is definitely not worth it.

At the moment, though, I'm leaning to quit and take the time to rest. Talk to our proctor before that to run damage control on Hazou's info leak.

We could take the time to resolve the intra-team tension from Hazou wanting to destroy the clan system, and Keiko and Noburi disagreeing. Won't be doing much for three days, which will make for a dull update.

Something really bugs me about this update, maybe you guys can help me do a sanity check here:

Either the proctor is so good that she knew embarrassing Keiko would drop her out of the conversation and leave the least social specced people be rail roaded into spilling our guts or she got lucky.

Which do you think is it? Someone who knew enough about our team to find out what to target and in extension, someone the team might have known from their academy days? Or maybe a more boring explanation: Karin managed to pick up on our weaknesses over the days she was with us?

I am sort of hoping it is the former just for that added spice of drama. :p

Someone make a real non-suicidal plan please. :(

I'm not accustomed to planning here, so this is just a loose skeleton, but at least it's a positive alternative.

Action Plan: Stepdown
-Try to avoid talking to the proctor any more outside of event necessity. We've been out-socialed and attempting damage control on our own now will probably make things worse.
-Check with proctor whether we need to convert currency to Mist ryo for our scoring, and if so, do that.
-Check with proctor whether finishing now and going to the barracks will count as an early completion as opposed to a disqualification, meaning we will get our points and other teams are not allowed to attack us. If so, do that.
-If gone to barracks: Check with proctor whether we are now immune to further point changes for this event. If so, propose summoning pangolins to go disrupt other teams.

Plan updated with feedback

[X] Action Plan: Stepdown

-Apologize to Keiko when Hazou gets the chance.

-Check with proctor whether finishing now and going to the barracks will count as an early completion as opposed to a disqualification, meaning we will get our points and other teams are not allowed to attack us. If so, do that.
-If we have to go and convert currency, or cannot complete with safe points now and are expected to trade further, previous safety protocols remain in effect, particularly:
  • At stops, place Air Domes around the palanquin, with Pandaa to guard it from inside (give him a handsign ahead of time that we'll use to let him know it's us).
  • Double check the palanquin drivers for henge via Vampiric Dew (check their chakra levels, don't drain them), question them on if anyone approached them the night before, etc.
-If completed safely and gone to barracks: Check with proctor whether we are now immune to further point changes for this event. If so, propose summoning pangolins to go disrupt other teams.

@Exmorri You have to write
before your Action Plan, but other than that I think it's good.

[X] Action Plan: Stepdown

Edit: In case @Exmorri doesn't change the thing, here's the plan for QM convenience:

In related news, might I suggest that if our plan involves confining ourselves to the barracks for ~2 days we talk about training plans?

I think we should strongly consider going along with the idea proposed in-story rather than immediately running away. Frankly, we don't have any idea of the score anyone else is getting.

This would suggest that most people are getting scores far above us, maybe even in the 1000s. Which would mean that the last event is irrelevant in terms of your score*. And since there is at least one more Event after this, it also means that as long as we excel in the last event this event doesn't matter either. So in either case we'd benefit more from /ff'ing right now.

OTOH we could also get intel on other teams... :(

*Of course, the earlier events could be weighted...

No extensions or lore updates, sorry. I'm really hoping Armageddon Initiative wins, because that would be hilariously fun to write.

Looks like a good plan to me. Thanks for stepping up -- although not for ruining my Armageddon-ish fun! :p

I'm actually curious about Hazou's motivations for telling as much of the truth as he did, @Velorien. I'm not complaining about him doing so, but I feel like there's some factor I'm missing here. Why didn't he just stick to the official story as announced by Jiraiya? Was he afraid the proctor would react poorly and sabotage us? Or just exhausted from lack of sleep and not thinking straight? Are we going to have Keiko and Noburi screaming at us about the opsec breach next update?
The official story is actually more or less what Granny Karina described - Hazō and the others sold out to Leaf while they were still in Mist, and then when they decided they couldn't fulfil any more of their objectives by sticking around, they defected en masse. The only difference is that Jiraiya's version emphasises ideological differences while Karina's doesn't. Hazō doesn't actually like the official story all that much, because it paints him as a wilful traitor from every perspective other than Leaf's (as opposed to someone who made the best of the terrible choices he was given). Between lack of sleep and Granny Karina keeping him off balance, he defaulted to his idealist stance of trying to win people over with honesty, as opposed to crafting a self-serving narrative Mari-style.

You mean other than the teams it disqualified through knockout?

[X] Action Plan: Damage control

1. Take our points and quit the exam. Make sure there aren't any problems with the non-Mist currency.
  • Relax and rest, make up for the sleep lost to Karina's shenanigans.
  • Apologize to Keiko about pretending to be gay before the proctor. Hazou was sleep deprived, not thinking straight, and didn't consider how she must feel about this.
  • Hazou scribes and infuses seals to restock our supply.

2. Briefly talk to our proctor as we part ways.
  • Thank her(?) for actually asking about our circumstances. Better than being blindly accused of treason.
  • We didn't make the decision to go with Leaf lightly.
    • Hazou's mom is in Mist and he wouldn't have done this if he thought it would endanger her.
    • If Ren were Mizukage at the time, we'd have seriously considered going to Mist. With Yagura, it would've been a trip to T&I and an unmarked grave.
    • There wasn't any destructive war between Leaf and Mist, and the Hokage and Mizukage are currently in the middle of peace negotiations, so it worked out fine, didn't it?
  • Praise her(?) realization of the client persona. Really threw us for a loop, and it was a great learning experience.
3. Once we're rested and at the barracks, go back to the conversation about clan privilege.
  • Hazou is sorry about getting a bit ahead of himself. It's a topic he's passionate about.
  • Reaffirm that the team and our new family are more important to him. We've been together through so much, mere political disagreements won't change that.
  • He admits that actually destroying the clan system would hurt more than it would help. Clans, for all of their elitism and jealous hoarding of secrets, have and continue to get things done.
  • With that said, he wants his future sealing innovations to benefit all of mankind, and not just the Goketsu. Ask Noburi how he feels about the results of his medical research.
  • He plans to try out some attempts at levelling the playing field for non-clan ninja once we get back to Leaf. He hopes that Keiko and Noburi will assist him, as always, by pointing out which of his ideas are too crazy to let loose on the world.
