IRL, Russia never hit anything close to a billion people.

Not applicable in space? Space colonies are essentially spaceships especially once you add the FTL engines to it.

IRL Russia was a thunderdome of bad weather, bad economy, bad education and bad medicine for a while, and the only period when their education became top-notch and economy remotely competitive was the one in which there were other sources of massive deathtoll.

Also, "not"->"now". A typo.

So does anyone know the extent of our borders ? Maybe a map ?
The lightning round completely changed everyone's borders, so every map we have is completely outdated.

We hold the land around the Yllthyon Mor, Gylruv, some of the Txolla, and a port on the Monsoon Sea. That corresponds roughly to the Black Sea, eastern Russia, Iraq, and the Persian Gulf. I think that's everything?

Hmmm... that's a bit higher than I like. We'll go with 75 million overall, as looking at overall population growth that gives roughly the right numbers (doubling time was 1800 to 1927), assuming a higher initial population. I can be convinced to knock it down even further if this still seems too high. The Hung definitely have the most people under them, and looking up Chinese demographic history, they should have roughly 300 million people at this point in time, so these numbers don't seem too screwy.
That actually seems a bit low with the Black Soil, Mesopotamia + Ukraine bread baskets, and emphasis on hygiene. We haven't had a lot of large wars either.

Hungarian terrain heavily favoured the Mongol. The light cavalry and horse archers are good in plains.

They were stopped in Austria, croatia and Bohemia. Terrain is important shit apparently.

Central Europe also had more fortification and Heavy cavalry. Light cavalry can't face heavily armoured cavalry in a straight out melee. If pinned down they are going to get utterly wrecked.
Central Europe is also a lot further away from the center of Mongol power than not!Georgia.

The Mongols were capable of winning long grinding wars in poor cavalry terrain against heavily fortified opponents. Just not at the other side of the continent while politically divided.

The new Marauders wreck everything and if you're unlucky they completely wreck you at the start of the game and keep wrecking you until late game. Apparently buying them off doesn't work even though it should as well. So yeah, the new DLC for Stellaris has issues.

Eh... It works, kind of. If you buy them off, they won't specifically attack you, but if they decide to go raid one of your neighbors and end up pathing through your systems to do it, they will destroy every station in them along the way.

It always baffles me how developers say that they playtest, but still manage to miss such obvious issues.

Nah, you see, space monghols will attack whomever you paid them to attack; it's just they pillage everything in their way wherever they move, and if your planets were in the way, wlel....

I mean, that's how historically mercenaries treated whatever land they passed through, regardless of whether it was the land of their payer, so maybe it's not a bug?

edit: depends on specific mercs, place and era of course.

[x] [War] Stayed neutral (2x)
[X] [Rounds] Begin Industrial Age play

The way I see it there are two ways this goes, without a military genuis like Napoleon seizing power Revolutionary Not!France collapses before the shit show that is the Napoleonic aware truly unfold.

If Not!Napoleon does crown himself... we'll then what better way to give a newly crowned Emperor legitimacy than happily marrying him into another Emperor's family. Do what the Austrians did but go even further with full intent of creating an alliance and cooperating with him.

@Academia Nut is this possible with shorter Industrial Age turns? Sitting on the fence and reconsidering our neutrality if/when someone makes themselves Monarch of Not!France? Or even using our network of salon intelligentsia to help push any noteworthy prospects of seizing power so we can get to negotiating?

Would we not be more likely to get a royal marriage with Not!Napoleon if we support Not!France from the beginning instead of staying on the sidelines?
