... I did have an impression that this meat has been in Uzkulak for a relatively long time. Seems that I missread something. Sorry.
We'll have to trust Mathildes judgment on it. If she saw something obviously wrong with it then we would know. Boney doesn't do trap options that sound good to us but goes against what Mathilde would know about the situation. Case in point, how Boney has left the option open to visit the slave markets but at the same time has made it very clear that Mathilde really, really, really, doesn't want to go there.

and smell.

and colour.
It's not that bad. Salted meat in brine is supposed to be soaked in water for at least 2 hours to draw all that salt out before cooking, and with the water changed often.

Edit: On consideration, the most difficult thing to get hold of would be the fresh water.

I have no desire to traumatize Mathilde on the dubious grounds of character development, the nut is too difficult to transport and I don't care about the arm. The papers are cheap and might open options for elfcation and if not Mathilde can just read and enjoy. She won't be doing anything next turn.

I haven't said anything about it, because lore wise it checks out.

This is around the right time for Greasus Goldtooth to be making his moves for Overtyrant.

This is probably a rival clan that got kicked out.
A migrating Ogre clan at the same time there's a Lord of Change actively attempting to fuck with our logistics is definitely a cause for concern.
I would not put it past a Greater Demon to use them as essentially seeker missiles to fuck with us. Especially since the lore suggests that pre-Goldtooth, preying on caravans was an established source of choice meats. And you can be sure someone wants to try Dragon....

Just knowledge IC that there may be a hungry Ogre clan somewhere alone our line of travel justifies this whole detour.

But maybe, just maybe Gotri doesn't know what the hell he's talking about,
It's always worth bearing in mind that Gotri is the person that considered himself a political hostage when Thorgrim was giving him engineering support and keeping him in charge of his gyrocopters. And then sent him off to work for an entirely different lord, who'd even appreciate his radical tendencies more.

Much hostage, very held.
Hey, remember when we relayed Gotri's opinion on politics, that there are no Old Holds, to the imperial chamberlain?

Oops? :V

Hey, if you ever wanted to slap a mindbreak tag on this thread, and drive Mathilde to necromancy in anger, now's your chance!
I mean, after this chapter, I'm more motivated to reject mortaility and embrace Omegahugger than I ever have been before...

Tbh, I want to eat my cake and to have it too. If only the mindset required to manipulate Dhar wasn't so toxic to develop, or if only it wasn't corruptive as a 'wind', then a short spin-off omake series where Mathilde comes back in a few years with an army of undead, some fellow casters to protect against incoming magics and tears this place to the ground would be really appealing.

(Food and stuff for slaves could be carried by undead pulling wagons. Undead are an amzing labour force)

Thinks on it
Ah, slaves would be sacrficed en-mass for power if she breaches the gates.

Anyway, basically I'm very unfond of the Chaos Dwarves.

Why are we assuming we can't get Mummy gold, Athel loren cuttings, etc. the doorman just asked us to declare these items.

Maybe the dwarves are fine with someone selling some of that stuff, as long it is under lock and key/sold within a week/permanent guard/n-times the tax..

The second is from a Naggarothi Corsair that won't stop smirking at you, and among the goods scattered haphazardly across the table is some sort of nut that glows so brightly with Ghyran that it gives you a headache in your soul to focus on it. Your questions uncovers that the Corsair got it from 'somewhere', where it belonged to 'someone', and was stolen 'a while ago'. You're starting to understand why the Ulthuani don't get along with these people. The price is a jaw-dropping one thousand gold coins, and your shock and outrage at that only seems to make the Corsair more delighted, which leads you to suspect that's why they gave you that price. But you must admit you've never seen so much magic concentrated in so small a form.

Not really, neither Lizardmen nor Silvan Elves are known to deploy armies beyond Lustria and Athel Loren respectively...
Technically speaking, the Wood Elves did once send armies to Elyrion and then Naggaroth, but I think a single acorn from the OoA is rather less important that the death of Ariel's sister.
What if the Great Maw and Hashut are related?
The comet that created/was the Great Maw was about 750 years after the Chaos Dwarfs were finished becoming the Chaos Dwarfs, so I'd bet against it.

Also, Hashut is explicitly linked to Chaos, the Great Maw isn't.

We're effectively running a line of credit against what the dwarves lent us. let's not run the whole thing out.

I think we should visit the hall. We might not be able to do anything now, but we should look at what true oppression looks like. For ending such oppression is a Holy Duty and by witnessing it might at least provide us some information and/or test our resolve.

I don't know if it's been brought up before, but if to the north the Winds are visible (to mages) as great bands in the sky, and more to the south they are present near the ground, is there a (specific) place where they descend and form an enormous magical waterfall?

Usually somewhere in the mountains of Norsca, the Goromadny Mountains, the mountains north of Zorn Uzkul, and in the northernmost Mountains of Mourn.

Too far back in effect to be the primary cause. This is probably because we are paying the Kurgan for livestock, and they're not about to provide their own reserves when they're someone else they can raid for them so they get paid twice.

The more I think about it, the more I am forced to conclude that striking a meaningful blow against Uzkulak is... just not something Mathilde is equipped to do. As Boney pointed out, the skaven have been at war with them for a long time; Mathilde cannot expect to significantly improve on the skaven's performance after having been on the scene for just a little while.
I think people are very heavily underestimating the competence of the enemies here. This is the sort of thing Mathilde spent weeks pulling off against Orcs, and people are talking about her doing it in a matter of hours while she's in the neighbourhood against two of the factions that most often pull this kind of thing against themselves, and they're already on high alert and extremely honed by the tricks and schemes they've been pulling on each other for forever.
This is something we'd have to spend a long time planning and preparing for, and... for what? To get at max a couple hundred slaves, which will probably include no small portion of skaven and other Order-faction undesirables, out of Uzkulak and into the Great Skull Land? With what supply line? How do we get them to something approximating safety? We'd need hefty logistical support to feed and transport that many people, and I don't see that happening any time soon.

That being said, I am also not content to shrug. Mathilde may not be capable of meaningfully harming Uzkulak, but there is a different slaver faction we do have some ability to fight: the druchii. I want to go on the elfternship soon and fuck up some dark elves with the Shadow Warriors. Fewer druchii, fewer corsairs. Fewer corsairs, fewer slaves taken at sea. That is something we've got an existing angle on, and hopefully we can impress the Shadow Warriors enough to make it a recurring thing. Unlike jailbreaking an unknown quantity of people of unknown trustworthiness from the most anti-theft faction in existence over a thousand miles from safety, this is a blow that Mathilde has the competencies and contacts to really accomplish.

(But also, if circumstances on the return trip permit, I will absolutely vote for spending every red cent we've got in the slave market.)

Whilst I'm keen on the Elfcation I want to get that sword mastery finished before going on it and possibly elf diplo skill. Otherwise I think we're more or less good to go.

Edit: I hope you're still up for research action on tongs when we get back?

Honestly, if we're going to vow to return and free the slaves later, wouldn't it make more sense to go do it in Naggorond instead? Much better chances of order aligned slaves instead of Skaven and Greenskins (who will be waiting to betray us/murder us respectively), along with potential Nagarythe support.

It's a much more efficient use of our time and energy with a higher chance of success considering we already have contacts with similar goals.
