[X] HALL: No
The options are "not one step further", or "pull out ALL the stops". And frankly, this is the closest I've been to agreeing that the Omegahugger special might not be 100% stupid, insane and to be shied away from.

[X] ARM: No
[X] NUT: No
[X] PAPERS: No
Here's a hot take: lets not spend money with destruction factions. (Although I will admit a small caveat that I'm tempted by the nut)
[X] MEAT: Yes
Well, no more than absolutely necessary. We've technically got orders from Borek to try and find something. And even if the meat is spoiled, we've got a candle and the wolves and kittybirds will probably be happy with it.

If it's a lizardman thing... Well, it's probably not an outright Old One relic but it's almost certainly a slann relic. If anyone's got good enough anti-scrying security to defeat Gold Wizards, it'd be him... and I'm worried for Johann because his magesight is all he's got so if anything screws with that he's really in trouble.

But I may be being paranoid.
I'm worried of Johann taking a look at the arms maker, and the maker looking back at Johann.
Unlikely, but not impossible.

Can I just commend you, @BoneyM, on your commitment to providing a high-quality quest experience? Because I can't think of many other authors who'd have been prepared to let us visit Uzkulak, knowing full well that they'd be fielding repeated "but what if we ignored the QM's answers about [thing] and did [thing, but phrased slightly differently] anyway" questions for the duration.

I'd also like to thank you for your seemingly-endless well of interesting secondary characters, lore, situations and wry nods to the readership's in-jokes. This quest has been a joy to read and participate in and has really helped keep my spirits up with everything that's happened this year.

Would it even have anti-scrying protection? Do we even know if that's a thing. The Gold College would probably know about this already as well. We know that the Lizardmen and their dangers are something that the Colleges are aware of.
Yeah, that's my concern too.

He did this with the Ancestor Gods, and came out the other side fine. The Old Ones aren't malicious, and humanity are another of their creations.

How about we have a little faith in him and his ability to know when to use his spells or not?

Thinking about the opportunities here, the people to steal from aren't the Chaos Dwarves, they're the merchants that sell here.

I would be interested in sneaking in to their workshops to observe and try to steal their secrets on the way back, but stealing anything material from them would be hard. Stealing intellectual property seems more likely to get past Hashut.

I'm sure Johann isn't going to carelessly scry strange artifacts of unknown providence.

Last time he did that, he spent 200 years as a tree, and the time before he converted to another races religion.

He's highly unlikely to make that mistake a third time.

Maybe.

Trying to steal the secrets of daemonsmiths would seem to come with its own dangers wholly removed from any willful vengence.

Could we feasibly pull off such an operation during the return from Karag Dum? I doubt Mathilde would be in any shape or mindspace to do such a thing after whatever we experience up there, but we ought to live up to our new Dwarf reputation.
We know of someone that did fuck with the Chaos Dwarves and got away with it: LM Grey. She's now stuck in Altdorf lest she be constantly harassed by assassins, assassins competent enough to make a Grey Lady Magister's life hell unless she stays in a college separated from reality. So even in a world we do succeed, we are probably getting hunted constantly, and are only safe in K8P, still constantly having disposable, well equipped (they gave the assassins after LM Grey a fricking submarine) assassins constantly after us. Eventually, without living on a separate plane of reality, they'll likely get us on a lucky (for them) roll.

And that's the good outcome of fucking with the Chaos Dwarves, if our half thought out plan actually works.

So I'm concerned that we seem to be collecting one of these.

And that the Dwarves at the gate might catch us with the thing they said wasn't supposed to go in here.
Re point 1: But mathilde doesn't know that. To her it's an interesting trinket (How is that much Ghyran not becoming a Powerstone?).

Re point 2: How would they know? We're going to put it in our pocket, not showing the doorman the thing we bought. 99.99% of chaos dwarfs are as wind blind as the regular dwarfs, and those that aren't are the priests and the sorcerers. They're not going to be gateguards. And besides, why would they check us on the way out? It already passed the check once

If we are going to do anything here we need to have a good lie planned for use with the coin, something that is believable enough they wont just think we are insane, that gives a reason why we would give them the info and that has them retaliating against another chaos faction. Also this should be in the far future when we are far better prepared and not about to head into the chaos wastes.

The coin is set to Protector for the turn. It's not an option.

[x] HALL: Yes
[x] MEAT: Yes
[x] ARM: Yes
[x] NUT: Yes
[x] PAPERS: Yes

No intention of actually visiting the Hall, but since it has no chance of winning, I figure I'd represent the part of Mathilde's psyche that really wants to regardless. Meat is an obvious buy, Arm is a steal if it is what we think it is, Nut has both immediate use (as a ward against Chaos), future-possible use (it's basically a Gyhran powerstone but better, which could possibly recharge our seed if the need arises), could be an interesting research or plot hook, and if nothing else could be a nice gift to our girlfriend (no, us having the seed won't cause any problems with the Wood Elves unless we wave it in their faces, and they still won't go to war with K8P over it even then), and finally a chance to buy Papers on Lustria this early in the timeline is a hard hard hard yes.

There's nothing else we're spending our money on anyway.

The Night Prowler face of the Coin would be an interesting thing to use if we want to engage in some mild larceny here later when we're better prepared.
