@BoneyM is there a reason we can't just... send the acorn back to Eight Peaks without taking it into the wastes? Maybe send a courier or ride back to Pragg ourselves or something?

[X] NUT: Yes
[X] PAPERS: Yes
Unsure on the rest.
Some people seemed worried that the nut is tainted, but Mathilde would have seen any Dhar.

That is so valuable that I'd pay 5000 gold for it.

But it won't be Mathilde doing that! It'll be Gabriella von Ernachthafen who blows everything up and all Mathilde has to do is to duck out without anyone following her.

Damn, you're right. She can hide her actions behind her pseudonym thanks to the Protector. Well, much as I know the thread will super-extra-never go for it, I won't be a hypocrite. I'll vote to visit the slave halls with the specific intention of making Gabriella von Ernachthafen an enemy of the Dawi-Zharr.

Edit: Invalidated thanks to a clarification from @Ekzentric Lohner. The Protector can only create a pseudonym in the minds of people we protect. The Dawi-Zharr would be unaffected and could therefore trace us back to the expedition convoy.

@BoneyM

- Magic 2 required to learn, Magic 3 to cast reliably. (CN up to 9):
Cleansing Glow: Cleans touched item, unspoils spoiled food or drink.

This is a "relatively simple" Light spell. It's not listed on the spell list for Horstmann and his chorus, but that's also not a very long spell list for four wizards.

Magister Egrimm van Horstmann, with Journeyman Citharus, Journeyman Barbitus, and Journeywoman Timpania, of the Order of Light
Spells: Shem's Burning Gaze, Banish, Daemonbane, Ill-bane, Light's Demand, Pillar of Radiance, Radiant Gaze

Is there any chance one of them might know Cleansing Glow and it didn't come up (being only a simple spell), or is Mathilde pretty sure those 7 spells are their complete list.

Asking in reference to these barrel of meat, obviously.

"Have you brought any of the following goods to Uzkulak: bound Daemons, precious stones or metals from Nehekhara, any seed, bud, fruit, or cutting from Athel Loren, unshielded warpstone, spherical devices made of brass, Vampire body parts, any item created or possessed by the Skaven Clan Pestilens, gilded skulls made of black bone, anything from the Temple-City of Zlatlan, any mummified bodies of large, frog-like beings, unshielded wyrdstone, any kind of projectile capable of moving on its own, any of Kadon's Scrolls of Binding, golden whistles, instruments stringed with unicorn hair, keys made of crystal, or any sort of stone that glows with a green light?"
I love this long list of "things we don't want to deal with". Especially because it mentions warpstone three times.
any mummified bodies of large, frog-like beings
And evidently somebody tried to sell them a Slann Relic Priest. I can only imagine how much ... fun that was when the Relic Priest woke up enough to notice what was going on.

So uhh ... how is Mathilde planning on hauling the food back? Enough food to matter for an expedition this large is a LOT of food.

It's a trade hub. She has money, other people want money and have wagons.

@BoneyM is there a reason we can't just... send the acorn back to Eight Peaks without taking it into the wastes? Maybe send a courier or ride back to Praha ourselves or something?

This is the Dark Lands. There are no couriers here that can be trusted. And Prague and back from here is a 1400-mile round trip. Mathilde has a responsibility to the expedition to not disappear for a week while ferrying a nut to Prague.

Mathilde has a candle that does that, so whether they have it or not doesn't matter.

Some people seemed worried that the nut is tainted, but Mathilde would have seen any Dhar.

The issue here isn't the nut is taken, the issue is that the nut is being taken to the Chaos Waste. Could there be a rudimentary solution to shield it as per WOG be enough to stop the taint that could come from bringing the acron into the chaos wave? Maybe. But things can go wrong, it's the Chaos Waste after all.

The idea that the nut is a zero-risk option sits really, really badly with me.

We need to find a way to get more cash after this expedition. All our monies going into buying shiny things dammit

The thread is of the general direction there isn't a need for Mathilde to keep any money in reserve. Now, whether this is true considering the thread has also expressed interest in more tower building and penthouse expansion at various points is another question, but the what does Mathilde need money for is a legitimate question that needs to be addressed.

I really want to buy the golden arm.

For two reasons.

One, Johann's gilding project, which seems to have stalled. Perhaps this can give some inspiration.

Two, it's a potent metal magical artifact. I'd really prefer that the chaos daemonsmiths don't get their hands on it. I really wouldn't want to see it again with an evil elemental spirit bound into it.

Three, if it's a Lizardfolk artifact, there's a decent chance it was made using Qhaysh, and it would be fascinating to take a look at.

Might mean buying that nut is an invitation to trouble
Someone already pointed this out, but not all items on the list are necessarily outright forbidden. It may just be restricted and/or subject to extra taxation, which has presumably already been dealt with by the seller when he came into the city and declared it. Which he must have, considering he's openly selling the thing and hasn't been mobbed by guards yet, because there's no way the Chaos Dwarves don't know what he's selling.

If only we had some sort of runic container that can hide magic things. Stone might suffice though, it is an excellent..

I think buying the meat will ensure a probing attack on the expidition from the Chaos Dwarves, but if that is likely anyway, then we should go for it.

And we have Mathilde's windsight, Ambers and Jade's to check the meat when it arrives (parasites/toxins?), and when we buy it we should be keeping an eye on it. And as mentioned above, our candle might come in handy.

I think we should not go to the slave pens, and after the expidition, Mathilde might benefit from spending an AP on dealing with her feelings on choosing to not look. (I wanna break Chaos Dwarf socicity)

Don't want the arm, do want the books, not sure about the seed.

(Also, it might be a nice touch to (have someone) copy the books and have the originals sent to her family at some point. Might be useful, might not but sure would be friendly).

----

Regarding worries about potential consequences from having the seed (war?) it seems more likely to have people who are invested in the seed to attempt diplomacy first. Like. Uh. Even "Gib seed or we kill you" counts for diplomacy here. I disregard concerns that some people will go straight to killing someone who rescues a seed from the Chaos Dwarve's market as 'unlikely' as that would disincentivse people from letting the people who want the seeds, know that one has them.

That aside, Pan won't want the seed to be be used to help with her project (assuming it might be helpful) - she wants it to be her (and the halfings') efforts.

Nuts from the Oak of Ages are worn by Spellslingers as protective amulets. We're in more danger from chaos corruption than it is.

People are being overtly paranoid because somehow they keep dealing with stuff that is so much bigger than one person and think it applies here, in the market. Do you normally go to a fancy market expecting what you buy will change the world?

Folks, something to keep in mind - When Mathilde took down Alkharad, one of the things we picked was 'detailed trade ledgers' and a bunch of people got burned at the stake for trading with vampires. Buying stuff here seems... not dissimilar. As in, this kind of 'buying stuff from our enemies' sounds like exactly the sort of thing the Grey Order should be rooting out, not facilitating ourselves. I understand that artifacts are shiny, but let's not do more than what we ostensibly came here to do.

Fair enough. I just wanted to make sure we weren't missing an obvious solution. In the meantime, I really have to wonder what we rolled for something like that. A—suspected—acorn from the Oak of Ages, as I understand, is bullshit. Especially if we get curious and buy enough books to recognize it and decide we want to take it back. An in with Athel Loren maybe? Or if we gave it to Laurelorn or Ulthuan...
