The word that is typically used here is 'bro', not 'mate'

Edit: Full suite of impactions fully intended.
I was just attempting to explain myself and I wasn't even sure Valmond knew it was a joke. I figured there was a decent chance they misunderstood considering they're a non-native English speaker. Perhaps I shouldn't have used the word mate but I was just attempting to be personable. Next time I'll just leave it off altogether and go for a more clinical feeling. I feel like you're reading way too much into it but I do apologize if I caused offense.

For the record, I still don't think the joke crossed the line in any shape or form. It was an attempt to poke fun at the strange nature of the romantic interests we would theoretically be courting. The list includes an Elector Countess, a wizard made of gold, an elder dragon, and a powerful druid. From there I went for the logical extreme in Horstmann who I assume the thread wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole due to the potential shittery. Perhaps I could've used a better word than hookup like 'romantic relations' but it didn't occur to me that could be taken badly in the two minutes I spent thinking and writing that post up. My bad.

I am not Native english speaker. I did realise you were intending it as a joke. I don't care, i found the joke not funny.
In context, both "bro" and "mate" read as condescending to me, probably not the intended reading, but that's how it goes.

The Shaman nods, not at all taken aback by the warning. "May the Gods find your efforts entertaining."
*laughs in Ranald* Yeah, everything said was true... but the omissions were a whole lot of lying.
In the end it takes you an entire month of self-study and adaptation to rebuild your sword style to incorporate this new technique, leaving no time to even scratch the surface of the other possibilities.

[Branarhune aspect developed: momentum dump. Remaining aspects: guard bypass, quick-draw, hand switching.]
Nifty! There's a lot of potential here.
Success, it is said, requires no explanation. It may not be required but an explanation would be nice, you think to yourself as you're torn between pride and frustration that you couldn't even begin to put to paper why those painstaking equations were proven so thoroughly wrong by the end results.
I feel the frustration. "I did this! I have no idea how!"
Days turn to weeks as you painstakingly construct this identification framework and make sure it stands up to any imaginable scenario. You visit Gotri and ask him and his Engineers of every obstacle they've ever encountered in getting a siege weapon from point A to point B. You visit Kragg and Thorek and ask if they've ever encountered any particularly difficult obstructions when it comes to getting their Anvils to commanding positions. Francesco contributes stories of wagon break-downs, Oswald his father's adventures with Steam Tanks, Soizic every hazard she has ever encountered or heard of that could lame a horse. At each stage you make tweaks to the design to cover more and more obscure edge cases.

@BoneyM

Is there a social option to get to know the dwarves of the expedition better?

Personally I'm hoping to reconnect with Asarnil and Deathfang now we've got more experience under our belt and have experience with another dragon.

Right now we're an interesting old acquaintance who wrote his memoirs. I'd like to build on that ground during the expedition to make it more friendly.

At the very least it might be useful and interesting to know his experiences with and opinions on the Old World Elves we're soon to collaborate with regarding Waystones.

Also and maybe see how Deathfang reacts to Cython being a thing?

That could also be a way to see the pair again after the Expedition if they pop over for a visit to Karak Eight-Peaks to see Cython.

Nooot sure how good of an idea that is admittedly, given Cython's opinion on non-Winded dragons (and dwarven opinion on Elves visiting their Karak frankly), but should be interesting writing nonetheless.

Things I expect to be furiously contested next turn:
  • Ranald's Coin. Gambler on Fog Path, or Protector?
  • Our personal AP. Fog Path + join expedition early? Ditch joining the expedition early to do something else? Overwork in a third action? Would the extra action be scouting, self-improvement, or something else?
  • Our duckling AP. Are we recruiting any of the remaining wizards? Are we recruiting all of them and skipping bringing their posses? Do we YOLO the Waaaghsoak mushrooms in the hopes that we can bring some on the expedition and they'll be useful?
FWIW, my current leaning is "Protector," "Fog Path + expedition early + no Overwork," and "try to recruit all three remaining wizards sans posse," but I have no faith that this will carry the day. There will be a lot of plans and plan variants, I'll tell you that for free.

I don't know, asking the other wizards in the vicinity to join so late in the game feels weird. We asked... Max and Johann (?) early on and explicitly gave them free time to prep. And now you want to ask other wizards at the last second with zero prep if they want to jump on board?

This is all I really need.

We actually issued a general invitation a year ago, in the same turn that we invited Max and Johann:
"Sure," you say and hand it over. "The other big news is the upcoming Karag Dum Expedition, which after some negotiation with the Ice Witches has been firmly slated to set off in the Spring '86. You'll be getting the open invitation through your Colleges in the coming weeks, but if any of you want to bring yourselves along you'd be more than welcome."
Boney has been cagey about how exactly "whether the Karak Eight Peaks wizards come along even if we don't spend AP to invite them" works, presumably to avoid us gaming it, but within the fiction of the setting, some may already have been intending to come, or at least strongly thinking about it. I agree that "little time to prep" is a concern, though.

Not to tell you how to live your life, but if you favor Johann, why are you picking "Break up with Pan to remain single" and not "Break up with Pan to date someone else"?

Training Hubert or helping him get a familiar is also an option to be considered for the Duckling action.
