Pan and Dragon is best of all worlds.

Everyone wins!

Edit: But just in case. I'll make sure that we atleast stay in a relationship with pan, they are pretty cute together even on their own.

(Still think adding the dragon and making a polycule would make things perfect though)

romantic relationships, even in fiction, tend to be either my favorite part or a part that gives me panic attacks. This quest's romance has been very nice for me. Whatever happens, I'm confident that it'll be well made. Which is nice!

I have had to try coaching writers after the publisher said "yeah we can publish if you shift these friends in your manuscript into a romance subplot for the final draft" and like.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I understand why people are so burned and jaded about romance. Especially in writing. Especially in quests / other alternatives to trad-pub.

I'm glad that we had what we had while we had it.

And it'll be alright going forward <3

I'm curious about the Dolgan, but I don't think it's a good idea for Mathilde to go poking around there.

Not much to say on the romance vote other than that I'm sorry BoneyM feels the need to cut short their plans because of thread behavior.

Woah. Mathilde's paradigm really doesn't lend itself to creating a spell like this. She's trying to cast a computer with in depth pattern recognition (without using neural networks) that then casts a simple spell based on a trigger. She's pretty much completely ignoring the conceptual part of fog and Ulgu that led the player who came up with this to think it's not just possible but even elegant, and is using it just as a rote delivery mechanism and a limitation instead of an inspiration.
It is indeed a shame, but she seems to go for the more energy-efficient route than the 'neat' route.
As far as I can tell, she's sending out the fog path to identify the terrain and using it as a delivery mechanism to cast skywalk on everyone currently above "defined as troublesome" terrain instead of casting an up-scaled skywalk on everybody.
Sure, she'll end up having to cast continually, but it should be a lower-level constant channeling instead of managing the strain of a full casting of skywalk every 5 or so seconds for 800+ people.

Edit: Sure, she could've reinvented the wheel to make the fog solid for people, but I reckon that would be the work of decades of study instead of what we're throwing together in a bit over a year.

So Im going to pipe up on something about Dragon I think is important.

Cython is fantasticly old, and works on the type of time scale where we are not missing out by romancing them immediately. I dont think Polaramory is necessarily the name for a relationship when its such a slow burn as to be measured in decades to centuries.

And I don't think its fair to Panamora to play half measures in the immediate terms of a relationship.

It was just a joke mate. I doubt Polygamy is even going to win considering the voting trends of the thread let alone the prospect of going for more unrelated romantic interests. Personally, I find Pan a tad boring but to each their own.
The word that is typically used here is 'bro', not 'mate'

Edit: Full suite of impactions fully intended.

Yeah, to be honest, we want the Protector for the expedition--we want it very much.

Still, Fog Path looks close enough to being finished that it would take a catastrophic roll to not have it online in time for the mission.

I'm pretty indifferent to the Protector on Karag Dum, and would rather have an almost guaranteed success, with increased possibility of critting the spell.

[X] Eike Hochschild, to get to know your future business partner.

Are these arguably a lot of options to vote for? Yes. But that's the magic of approval voting, innit? And all of these interest me, albeit to varying degrees. Cython's just an interesting character to spend time with. Fighting vampires in Sylvania has been a major part of Mathilde's life experience, and wanting to at least keep an eye on it seems very in-character to me. The Golds made a huge deal out of getting all our Skaven goodies for their research, and I want to see if they're actually making something of it. It might be a long shot for the setting, but I love the idea of our random discovery of a creepy Skaven organ vat leading towards organ transplants becoming a viable medical thing in the Empire so I want to see what (if anything) is happening with that. I just like Gretel's vibe and I'd enjoy spending more time with her. Hubert seems like our duckling who's been most in need of mentoring given his historically fraught relationship with his magic, and I want to see if he's been embracing our suggestion of "you can define your relationship with your magic to match your actual personal goals, not the stereotypes of your College." And given that Eike is likely to wind up being a v significant factor in the future of the EIC spending a bit of time laying some foundations for how that relationship will go seems like a worthwhile investment, even if it's not inherently the most interesting thing to me.

Re: the romance vote, tbh an OT3 with Mathilde/Panoramia/Roswita would be my actual ideal. But given Roswita's comparative lack of popularity in the thread, it's not realistically going to happen even with the poly option. And I really, really, really dislike the "romance the dragon" option that appears to be the actual most likely outcome of going poly, so that's right out for me. Like, if that's you, then you do you and the vote that wins will be the vote that wins and I'll accept that even if I don't care for it. But I am not ever going to back that or anything that makes it more likely.

I would very much like the Protector on the next turn.
We haven't used that face so far and I'd like to see it shine.

Same. "Hey, I killed your attackers, let's be friends!" sounds very useful in this situation, and it's active for the entire six months, unlike the Gambler.

Also, Gambler on a single prep action in this case is a terrible bet. It's either a neutral result (+spell, no diplo) or a total loss (no spell, no diplo). Whereas Protector is either a neutral result (no spell, +diplo) or a big win (+spell, +diplo). Protector is literally the smarter gamble.

What Mathilde might lack in practical experience she has in a big chunk of theoretical research. But believe me, if it does go that way, her trying to make that conversation happen is going to be awkward.

I've been convinced. Mathilde being super-duper awkward about things when Panoramia's seen crazier relationships and Cython has been in crazier relationships is just... brilliant. I wanna read that super bad.

I'm not against anyone wanting to read a monogomous relationship; this is a reader preference vote after all. But it's extremely rare to see a story where a polyamorous relationship between two wizards and a dragon, all of which we know are great characters, is even possible. Namely it's just this one quest, and only for here and now. So I'd encourage you all to not vote for what you think is best, but vote instead for what you'd most enjoy reading. And I vote maximum shenanagins.

Now that the relationship is set up I'd rather give it time to settle and for the honeymoon period to end before either trying to add or remove anyone.

Vote out of the way, let's go discuss!

I've had a gutful of grumbling on the topic of romance and then some. I'm already cutting short what I wanted to do with it and I really don't want to hear anything from people who want even less.

I'm so sorry. I didn't even really think to wonder about your preferences for what you want to write in any of these discussions, and I feel bad I missed that thread. I hope you are pleased with what wind up happening regardless.

I want to say I loved the idea of identification by finding the parts of the surface that are a little bit more sticky to ulgu, and using that as the anchor point for skywalk. It's so clever! I am also really liking the way the spell construction has been broken down into simpler elements- it feels like Mathilde is spending months doing this, just from a few sentences.

And that's about it for my thoughts on the discussion, everyone else send to have covered things.
