So I'm coming back to the thread after the holidays, see there is a holiday vote and am not going to try to read the last 71 pages to check this but I'll vote and hope that it's still open;

Because I want to see what BoneyM does with that place.

You forgot the various flavors of Chaos, and generally ill-favored Bretonnian knights whose proclivities preclude them from showing their faces is other parts of the kingdom, then you have the grab bag things like 'local flavors of nasty monsters' and 'what terrible thing washed upon our shores' etc.
We have a person aiming for grail knight in my one game and she's rocking a full suit of plate we got as a reward for finishing a module. She's at 5 armor in all locations, and once we hit the end game she's going to have a toughness bonus of 6. Barring an Ulric's Fury cascade she'll pretty much laugh as the gunfire plinks off her 11 point damage reduction pool and she calvary charge murderblends into you as you take 2 turns to reload.
She could theoretically get herself some Master Rune of Gromril armor and bump that up to 7 for a DR of 13, but that's Pretty Unlikely. Though I imagine people would take what they can get to oppose that, haha.
Having that level of armor is, in my experience, incredibly rare though. A lot of the stuff you're likely to run into is gonna have like 2-3 armor if that, so a points or two of ignore armor be it a point from the Sure Shot talent or in combination with an AP gun, is functionally just Ignore Armor entirely.
e: It should be noted the Hochland Rifle is also prohibitively expensive for most people.
The warplock Jezzail costs 12 warpstone tokens. You can buy a dagger for 1 warpstone token!
The Hochland Rifle is 450 gold, that'd be 450 daggers!
Only the major infrastructural runes. Mathilde could SEE the personal scale runes sucking in ambient Winds for power as they activate(and she knows the 'battlemagic' versions take many years to charge), but she can't see the big runes drawing in anywhere near enough to explain how they work.
Are there any other runes that are both personal and infrastructural besides the rune of Vallaya? It stuck out in my head as unique that way, which is why I asked- everything else seems limited to one of weapon, armor, banner, item, seige weapon, or infrastructure exclusively.
Otherwise you have the same rune working via two different mechanisms depending on physical scale, which seems odd to me.

A little over four pages of discussion, for a quest that is effectively on hiatus.
Clearly we've been discussing the desperate wonderful fanfiction omakes people have written and engaged in the deep, sorrowful despair of thread madness enlightened discourse on how the story will progress.
The first plant chosen for further examination is a sort of grass from distant Ind. The merchant calls it koo-sha grass, and claims that the natives of that place use it in religious rituals to achieve enlightenment; more of interest to you and Panoramia is that they apparently also use it to treat dysentery and influenza, and failing that it's also a rather hardy plant and quite edible for livestock. A neat piece of spellcraft later, a thriving example of the plant is sprouting out of a barrel half-filled with dirt and Panoramia has a small handful of seeds tucked into one of her glass phials.
The second is from slightly closer to home; the cone of a type of Estalian pine that, according to Panoramia, produces a sap that can be distilled into a sort of oil good for treating wounds and discouraging parasites. The merchant had been advertising the cone for its use in predicting the weather, claiming it would open when it will be dry and close when it will rain, so accepted a few silver coins for it before moving onto the next customer, unaware that he'd just practically given away a curative for an entire army.
I wonder what happened to these plants, and whether or not Panoramia has some of them in Eight Peaks. That pine especially is of interest, since I remember the halflings mentioning that the climate in Eight Peaks should be similar to that in Estalia, albeit with less rainfall. Or wait, was it Tilea that had the same climate?
I've been rereading some of the quest recently when I stumbled on Panoramia's little shopping trip in Barak Varr, here:

Mathilde is not the only one with a backburner. Panoramia's partnership with the Halflings means her focus has been on food crops and irrigation and soil quality.

So, she's started to collect a bunch of esoteric odds and ends that she's definitely going to research soon. Truly, Panoramia is fully prepared to become a Magister.

Night falls upon the city of Altdorf, capital of the Empire of Man. A bustling city of nearly a hundred thousand souls, it is home to both palace and pauper, spanning the breadth of Imperial society. From the tallest towers to the lowliest of slums, the streets are deceptively quiet, giving no hint of the life changing events to come. As mothers usher their chattering children to bed and good guardsmen begin their evening patrols, a young wizardling clad in gray hurries in the chilly winter air, hoping to make it back before the College's Curfew.
It-That-Hunts prowls in the shadows, its powerful limbs covering the rocky ground in leaps and bounds. What little light that reaches it is more than sufficient to guide its path as it prepares to give chase-- chase to its target! It can taste the warm fear of its prey in the wind, a good sign of things to come. Soon, it will enjoy the warmth of a filled belly. Soon...
A squawk of indignation disturbs the night's peace. "My hat!" the wizardling cries, amber eyes wide as the pointy gray garment flies freely through the air. What is it doing in the sky? It is meant to keep her warm, and belongs on her head! She gapes at the sight. How is she meant to be a wizard if she cannot even keep hold of a hat? Has it abandoned her, as well? Is this-- No, that cannot be. It must be a test! Determined, the child gives chase to the wind.
Sounds. It can hear the skittering paws of the prey, delicious prey sounds. Chasing its own food, perhaps. A fortunate forage, or a secret cache? It matters not. The prey is quick, but unaware, and it will be no match for the sharp claws of It-That-Hunts. That it is clad in fur as gray as night is of no consequence. It stands no chance!
"Get back here, hat!" Oh, how easy it would be if she could just wave her arms and fly! But the only thing that flies is the hat, tossed to and fro by the mischievous night. It sweeps left and right, up and down, over that fish stall, behind a street corner now, then above a waste dump, and into an alleyway, all the while pursued by the wizard-to-be.
The chase is on! With a flex of extra effort, the hunter races against the prey that has begun to flee, anticipating the target's every move. As the distance shortens, indignant squeaks become louder, an extra set of senses confirming the soon-to-be kill. Over that barrier of stone, to the right side of that rotting wood, slipping through the cracks...
Then, as suddenly as it had begun, the hat abandons its wandering ways. It drops onto the ground with a thump, followed by a squeak, and then a strangled growl. Cautiously, the girl approaches her quivering hat. Giving it a nudge reveals the glowing green eyes of a dark alley cat, nibbling contently on the remains of a dirty rat beneath the hat.
She stares at the scene, and then laughs.
"Aww, kitty!" Sweeping up her discarded hat, she gives it a good few whacks to dust it off, and then plops it back onto her head. The cat continues chewing, intent on ignoring its newfound position atop this strange large beast in favor of continuing its meal. Slowly swiveling her head at the weight, she considers the situation. Well, that'll do. "Okay kitty, let's be friends! The College lets us keep pets, right? You seem to be able to get food on your own well enough anyways... Alright then! I think I'll call you Morr. Let's go home, Morr." Whether Mathilde receives a tongue lashing for coming back late with a mangy cat on her head is left up to reader interpretation.
I'm not sure that's the appropriate comparision. That quest just has excessively large updates combined with a very, very slow (and irregular) update rate.
