The day has come. You never thought you'd be so sad in seeing someone climb aboard a ship. Your Master smiles at you as she always does, but you have had plenty of time to get to know her. You get the impression she's almost excited to go away for several months.

SEEN, NOT HEARD - ...Go away from you, perhaps?

RIVERINE EMPIRE [Challenging: Success] - No. She's excited to go towards adventure. She's missed it.

SWORD-ARM - Missed the danger.

MARK OF ULGU - Missed the chance to cut loose.

Your Master seems to notice your inner conflict somehow. She approaches you, takes your hat off, and then in one simple movement she puts her own atop your head. You are left blinking in surprise.

Mathilde: "Hold onto this until I return, will you?"

She smiles. You open your mouth, but nothing comes out. You close it, and just nod.

Mathilde: "Oh, and..."

She takes out a Coin and passes it to you.

Mathilde: "This too. Could you hold onto it as well?"

WINDSIGHT [GODLY: Failure] It's a completely normal Coin. Its face bears a dagger. How quaint and totally normal. You take it from her and close your hand around it, without turning it or looking at its other sides.

ACCOUNTING [Difficult: Failure] - ...Why would she just give you a normal Coin? That's odd. Does she want you to do more things with the EIC while she's gone? But no, she'd have been more explicit if she'd wanted that.

DOVE'S ADMIRATION [Legendary: Success] - It is a sign of trust, and a promise she will return.

You look up at your Master. You don't quite understand, and perhaps it is showing on your face a bit, but you nod. And finally, you are able to muster a genuine smile.

The two variants of Pondering Orbs and Nuts continue splitting the vote. It's possible that putting Eike on the KAU action is so important to some voters that they prefer the other top plan over a variant that does/does not do it, but I kind of doubt that. If you're voting for one variant please seriously consider also voting for the other one.

Side question: is there a reason besides simulation-poking balance that we can't use Serenity actions to Codify spells?

Because the thing about written works is they tend to be written by writers, and that means their relationship with writing leaks into the work. Mathilde gets to write for 'free' because with the right setting, writing for her is a serene, relaxing experience that can be done as part of one's leisure time. That is not the case for spellcraft R&D.

Nice to see competing plans that aren't virtual copies of one another.

I think my preference is doing both Ithilmar and an auditory Sevirscope at the same time, in case we want to fund the creation of a lot of them. Mathilde was the one that theorized that they could be distributed to towns to keep track of magical stuff, or warn people of incoming magic storms. I would assume that waiting for people to adopt them on their own would take a lot longer, since it is a Creepy Wizard Thing.

Having Eike learn tradecraft under the EIC handler while the EIC's getting involved in a bunch of trading is only sensible. Both the tradecraft and the infiltration would serve her if we drop her off in Lothern. I'd vote for the other leading plan because I think the arcane mark action is a waste of time and prefer doing the nut on the same turn we leave for Ulthuan, but for some reason it wants to buy ithilmar instead of build a bridge, which would tie in a lot better with the rest of the enchanting that it does. At least with this plan, we can get all the enchanting done at once, next turn (except, sadly, for the nut).

I dislike the idea of having Eike learn how to wrangle organisations of academics because that's simply not what she'll be doing near as much as a grey wizard and merchant, so spreading her thinner is actively unhelpful for no real gain.

Having not participated in the discussion, winning plans seem mostly fine. Finally, the Galaxy Dunk has arrived.
 
On the subject of Eike, an apprenticeship usually lasts around 10-12 years, divided into thirds. She started her Apprenticeship as a Junior Apprentice at 11 on Turn 34 in 2486.5, and she joined us as a regular Apprentice at 14 on Turn 39 in 2489. The expectation is that she'll rise to Senior Apprentice normally after around 3-4 years, which should be Turn 45 in 2492 at the earliest.

I think I would be much less unwilling to dump her in Lothern for three months if she was able to cast spells and act independently, which Senior Apprentice would be a good benchmark for.

@Boney Will it just happen automatically around then, or will we need to meet certain standards in her education? She's said to be ahead of the curve on spellcasting right now, so does that affect the timeline?

She's a Senior Apprentice when Mathilde says she is.
 
Sweet, the Redshirt plan actually fully focuses on enchanting as the plan's theme. This is good and better than all the other plans, which confoundingly split their focus.

I'm like 99% sure that the Coin won't work for anyone that Mathilde willingly hands it to, but will work for anyone who manages to steal it off of Mathilde.
Maybe if we gave it to someone specific, but I think if we cast it from the roof of one of the entries to the grey college into the slums of Aldorf or something like that I think it would work for whoever was lucky enough to find it.

I was thinking two gifts day. Use the coin and something that looks more valuable to gift in a Ranaldian holyday.

A gold plate for example would look more valuable while coin would be the real gift. I think that would please Ranald.
