I wonder how much money is going to be embezzled in the Ithilmar action. I'd be unsurprised if a one-time spare of purchases is prime embezzlement time. I almost want to take the auditors action first, but I'm genuinely worried about having taken too long and missing the opportunity altogether to someone else.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, and all that.

Improving the EIC navy might actually be important, because pretty soon they might be up against not just bandits, but Border Princes, Black Water gribblies and Troll Country gribblies as well.

Our trade network stretches pretty far, and there's a lot of danger along those routes.

Ehh. The stretches that would cover the border princes would more likely be covered by barak varr river monitors... And the only thing threatening those is a waaagh.

As for the kislev... That is still far away from even beginning to being built.

Personally the river navy thing is a somewhat useful thing we could do but personally the ilthimar action is the one with the biggest timer.

P.S. I am still curious if there ever were knives made with sword style hilts in any large numbers and would appreciate the references if you have them on hand.
I'm sure *someone* has gone about making daggers with ridiculous full basket hilts or something.
Mandred turns 10 next turn, which I wasn't aware of until I looked for his birth in the story threadmarks
Huh. I definitely would like to see him pop up in a social sometime now that he's getting old enough. It'd be nice to get a read on the future wizard prince of reikland.
so.... question?

if you were an Empire scholar looking to research into a topic that ended with you being dragged all the way down to K8Ps. (which for most people without a way to fly, is quite the trip.)... what would have been the topic that you just couldn't find in the empire, Knightland etc, that you braved the journey.
Clearly a burning desire to solve the mystery of the identity of that one doctor of near east studies they've been corresponding with for years. Tune in for the latest spinoff of the Magda Wessen series as a beautiful young scholar travels to the edge of the world to track down the man she's fallen for over their years of letters and unravels the secret at the heart of his identity!

This is a long-running series where she only confirms that Skaven are real at the climax of the first book.

I wonder what's the silliest collection of misfits that could be assembled to pull a heist on Mathilde's penthouse to break out qrech in the name of love?

So far I have, halfling ranaldite burglar doing it as part of his finger quest because Ranald thinks the whole thing is funny, a lahmian vampire looking to steal Alkharad's skull for a plot, and a Verenan scholar that wants to know what sort of secret lore is kept locked away in the penthouse instead of the library. *eyes shelf of romance novels*

"In 2472, a group of Journeymen were sentenced to burn for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from the custody of the Witch Hunters to the Imperial underworld. Today, still wanted by the authorities, they survive as 'wizards of fortune.' If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...the Grey Team."

There are so many wonderful reference images for Teclis, it's amazing. I went with the giant moon-helmet armoured-bathrobe tassels-everywhere look, and giggled idiotically the entire time I was drawing him. :V

The idea for this came from Eltharion's encounter with Aksel's bags of rocks:

You return to Laurelorn with Eltharion, you in your Gyrocarriage and him atop a majestic Griffon called Stormwing that draws all the attention that your Gyrocarriage usually gets and then some. When led through the headquarters of the Waystone Project he examines all the prototype components with a blank face, his soul churning with Shyish as he consults whoever or whatever he consults. He takes a copy of the ritual for Liminal Germination immediately after it's described to him - it seems that nearly all of Ulthuan is covered by something equivalent to it, though not always forest-themed, and it would be directly applicable in some places and hopefully easily adapted in others.

Your efforts at grappling with the Leyline problem seem to fascinate him the most, and he spends some time scrutinizing one of the bags of rocks, by force of will alone remaining resolutely unbaffled. He listens to your theorizing on the Titan-metal used in the original capstones, and confirms that the Kingdom of Caledor would have the ability, though not necessarily the inclination, to make more of the stuff. Though he doesn't outright say it would be expensive, it's implied enough that you're happy you considered the alternatives.

Organizations threadmark was edited. Is any part of the library info tab changed, besides Ulric being bumped up to +5?
That's the only change I'm seeing right now. I guess Boney's adding that first and then figuring out just how randomly the social sciences get backfilled.

Edit: Eshin'd.

Its honestly surprising that athel loren is under the heading "civilized realms" cause I don't think most of the people of the empire would consider them anything other than an enemy of man.

That's a really minor nitpick though, especially because they're definitely a force of order by most practical definitions.

To bring in relevant WoBs,

Civilized Realms. They're unquestionably civilizations and even at their most troublesome they're not outright enemies to humanity.

Not anywhere near as surprising as the Dark Elves being classified under it.
It would depend how Mathilde felt about them when it came time to make that decision. And yeah, the Dwarves only really know the Druchii as one of many dangers while travelling at sea, not as a society.
And since Mathilde first encountered Druchii as visiting diplomats trying to strike a deal, rather than, say, enemy targets during her trip to Nagarythe, she chose to file that topic the way she did.

If Mathilde had ended up living among the Elves of Ulthuan instead of the Dwarves of the Karaz Ankor for as long as she did, the Druchii and the Chaos Dwarves would probably be swapped around. The Ogre Kingdoms are probably going to need reassessing at some point soon, too.

To be fair, the Dwarfs also have a universally low opinion of the Druchii.

Though I imagine you're just speaking of proximity.

Speaking of, I do wonder if we might be tapped by the Karaz Ankor to check in on that new Overtyrant of theirs (Greasus, I assume) as the Silver Road campaign progresses. I imagine it'd be far more likely (even probable) if we remained Loremaster (especially at large) as proven weirdpoker, but I really want to see Mathilde interact with yet another alien culture with alien magics.

I'd imagine at least part of it is the Empire's extremely close relationship with the Karaz Ankor. They're essentially committed to a war of extinction against the Chaos Dwarves in the long term, and there's no way the Empire doesn't follow the Karaz Ankor's lead on that.

Meanwhile, who cares what Ulthuan thinks? They can ask Marienburg for help if means so much to them, etc. etc.

Depends on how big it can get before you stop calling it a knife. The 'main gauche' style offhand dagger was frequently made with a full/basket guard since it was intended to be used in swordfights. It's not much smaller than a shortsword, but it is a little bit smaller.

And there is of course the trench knife. It's not a basket-hilt as such, but it protects your fingers in much the same way.
