Exactly. These guys are quite competent at their jobs and Mathilde didn't use much in the way of magic when finding the temple, only when it came to the actual kill.

Its all conventional stealth.

Sure but the benefit from having Mathilde came very much from the sabotage she could deliver. Even if Rangers could discover the trolls, skaven deal and ritual they couldn't do much about it meaning that the dwarven army would have needed to conventionally deal with every single one of them, taking thousands more casualties and delaying the advance, which in turn would have allowed further orc mobilization which would have reduced efficiency further which could, in a worse case scenario, have caused the expedition to grind to a halt or caused prohibitive losses in the long term. Even in a decent scenario several thousands of dead dwarves on top of what has already been lost would have made reconquering further peaks harder and more lengthy.

Like, we should not compare ourselves to him. Nobody on the planet can realistically measure up.

Nagash gets pretty darn close for a human.

Karak Varn was one of the Holds which were abandoned, but not conquered. So there's a possibility it's still empty. And Karak Ungor was the first one to fall. I'd have named Gunbad (for Brynduraz) or Ekrund(for gold, silver and Gromril) but Gunbad is the Greenskin capital
Also, we should try building a tower atop Skavenblight. Lots of resources there.

I am now more confused than ever as to whether you are joking or not.

Das good.

Only now I realize I spent a good six hours to read the fifty pages of discussion I was behind on...

Hey folks, is there a colored spell that grants a straight up Ward save?

So closest candidate I can see is Radiant sentinel from Realms of sorcery, it would give a 6+ ward save against normal attacks if stated to TT with a limit of one attack being saved a round. Wouldn't be good for a shadowmancer for obvious reasons.

Guard of steel from Chamon would act as a generic aura that makes to Hit rolls against you harder. There's nothing else that would really fit. Ward saves are the purview of high magic tbh.

Well Mathilde does have fount of what may be high magic, maybe we can eventually make an enchantment of that sort with it.

I wish we had some elf favor...

I'm honestly salty about the way we got treated around learning intrigue. Yes it was a nat 1. I still want to slow-walk this until they actually start looping us into things.
As a player I understand, but for Mathilde after the initial annoyance at the lost time is passed I doubt she would give it a second thought. Growing up in the grey order means learning that water is wet, fire is hot, and information is need-to-know.

I'm absolutely exasperated waiting to find out what has been going on in our absence.
Wilhelmina: "Well there was that canal ... and some sheep got loose."

Anton: "... So by the end of our conversation, we realized that what the pirates really wanted was to settle down in blissful matrimony and being Bretonnian nobles (albeit wayward) the Imperial Marshal didn't have any problem with matching off his dozen daughters. To be quite honest I think it was quite a relief for him. Anyway, I couldn't just leave without helping to plan the wedding and I figure it's not every day you marry off a dozen daughters so we might as well do it right. Of course, half of them are Sigmarites and the other half are Ulricans so first I go to the Grand Cathedral..."

For me, the deciding factor is order.

See, I feel that now is the safest chance to go meet our friends. The other factions are going to be forced to step back and re-evaluate their situations (as much as Greenskins and Skaven can) now that a whole bunch of dwarves have popped up and taken over a solid chunk of the hold. It will take them time to shift their priorities (if they indeed do so) and act on the new situation. Any plots that were in place before we arrived will not have accounted for our arrival. This is the least likely time for them to attack (effectively). Furthermore, with the expedition shifting gears, it is questionable if the dwarves will be able to act on any of the information we bring them if it isn't absolutely urgent. Better to see to distant personal business now, while we are in a lull.

But how are Armor of Destiny, Armor of Fortune, Gambler's Armor, Talisman of Preservation, Talisman of Endurance and Talisman of Proction made, then?

These are generic magic itens, as I understand it, any army may buy these.

If we are to do any Karak reclamation, it should be Karak Drazh - as it's a threat to our communication, even if not as much a threat as it could be.
If we do any Karak reclamation, it should probably be the one we haven't finished yet.

There's other important stuff to note about Karak reclamations, and that is that there simply are not enough dwarves to do so. The current reclamation already involved massive amounts of non-Dawi allies. A further reclamation would be faced by the fact that most of the easy recruits are instead going to K8P.

Yea we probably could learn to make them in time.

Honestly? A lot of those items are probably looted elven items, or made using divine magic. They're generic in the sense of the TT game not caring to much about the lore implications, but keep in mind these items are incredibly expensive. a 50 point item isn't chump change and they're supposed to be very rare. Only Heroes or Lord characters can have these.

Being the steward/mayor, well its one hell of a resume, i see Mathilde eventually working for an elector count again. And frankly I don`t trust others to do this job as well as Mathilde can. Most people in power and authority are incompetent or corrupt, often both. This is our chance to not embezzle a single dime, invest heavily in the Emperors Ally, and secure its border, whilst enriching the empires trade. Furthermore, with a greater budget, and with the trust the king has for us, we can effect more change, we were greatly limited with our actions in stirland, juggling multiple masters, earning trust and approval, and fighting others for a limited budget, whilst mistrusting our fellow Councillors. Here, we will have a lot of authority, and I think being open and transparent with our plans, and how they are theorized to effect the rest of the Eight Peaks will increase our relationship with King Belegar Ironhammer. By strengthening King Belegar, enriching him, and raising his status and authority, we raise and enrich our selves, invest in people, invest in allies. When shit hits the fan in the empire, King Belegar will be able to help out, because we helped him out. We secured his foundation, so many years down the line, he can help the Empire, and other dwarf holds. This is a chance for us to do a lot of good, and to improve our skill sets accordingly. This will also tie us much more closely with the dwarfs, if we can increase their clans prestige, might and wealth, and by extension honor. Mathildes duty`s would be to bring wealth to the subjects of the King and the King. As such, increasing the connections with the other dwarf`s would be of great importance, hiring mercenary's and adventure`s, to patrol roads and passages we build to the various dwarf holds, making sure that the populace is efficient and productive. Influence culture, and religion, and healthily manage the union of so many clashing people. This is a way to boost our prestige, our authority, our worth. This is a place for us to study diplomacy, stewardship, intrigue. Our learning score, and martial score are uniquely qualified to help us in our task, as we have a better chance of finding talents in these category's who can help with various projects and organisations we will be building. Hiring our own advisory council, with dwarf, halfling, human, brings us greater access to information.

These are all possibility's, and other options bring other possibilities. I could have also misrepresented the role Mathilde would be placed in. I didn't really want to write any of this, because it's just my own flawed understanding of what could be. Which to be fair, is what everything else in the discussion is. Mostly guess work. Sure some of it sounds convincing, other posts like nonsense. In the end I wrote this because one more post, was posted displaying negative views of a voting option, I felt positive for, citing "opinions" as evidence of what will most "definitely" happen. And I frankly felt that was bullshit. So I wrote my vision of what could be. Because a lot of things are based on Dice, and chance, and decisions, that may be revised. So non of us can know. In the end, vote for what you want. Not for what I my self, or others want. And try to ignore post's like mine, painting a beautiful picture of what ifs. I guess that's what I am trying to say.

Mathilde is a talent, and she is uniquely suited for this role as steward, it brings Mathilde so many options down the road. It also returns Mathilde to a advisory role, and gives Mathilde a unique growth opportunity, people on this thread, keep writing how its an option to purely increase Mathilde`s wealth, I fail to see this. It certainly puts Mathilde in the position to heavily embezzle, we would no doubt have a vote on that option. The blatant negative portrayal many our painting this position in, really annoys me. If you want do something else, vote for something else. Why are you throwing so much shade, mixing fact and fiction, on other options? Vote for what you want, allow others to do the same, without slandering the other options please.

I feel like such a punk for writing this at all.

I think I'm in preference of the stewardship option honestly but as long as we take an adviser position i'm ultimately fine with any of them winning.

One. Don't think I didn't see what you did there.
Two. I now desperately want to see the Warhammer version of the Pirates of Penzance.

Eh? Are you viewing this as a modern job that she'll move on from eventually?

If Mathilde signs up as an advisor for Belegar, that's probably the rest of her life spent doing that, mostly in this place.

Not necessarily?

She wouldn't be bound to Karak Eight Peaks by a fiefdom or something. It'd be a few years of commitment but there's no reason to believe Mathilde wouldn't necessarily move beyond the position.

Ultimately, I expect Mathilde to stay at least as long as it takes to reconquer all of Karak Eight Peaks and secure the Dwarfs position here. We don't know how long that'll take or what will happen in that period of time. I don't expect the reconquest to take her whole life though.

I am in favour of Learning because I think Dwarfs can find a good Stewardship candidate - hell, Belegar can always assume direct control, he probably has some pretty serious Sterwardship chops - but they lack anyone nearly as capable in handling Weird Shit or going off on deep penetration scouting as Mathilde.

Kragg is our better in several respects, but not any which relate to gathering intel; plus he is probably departing home soon enough?
