Does anybody else agree that Karak Eight Peaks would make a wonderful College Campus, between Belegar's appreciation for wizards and a nascent major trade route?

Bonus points if it's on the bigger side and/or multiple orders establish a presence.
There are 8 peaks and 8 colleges. So I'd imagine sticking one on each peak would be thematic as all hell.

option?

As in, what is it about the former that makes it take up so much time to pick up a box or two on our way back? Is it just the meta-textual implications you attached to each option that make them somewhat different? Or because if we're not storing the Snake Box in the vault we won't have a 'safe' place for it until our tower is actually built?

Is it too presumptuous to request that, similar to the 'recover study materials' option having a very minor 'visit friends' aspect, that if the latter gets voted in and the former doesn't, that we at least pick up a few vials of Snake Juice?
Something less valuable, breakable and irreplaceable, that could still be studied or shown around if we make time before our base is built and we bring everything over.

[x] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.

Far too many options I like to choose between them all! Though I think it might be a good idea to catch up with our friends, and what's going on in the Empire; make sure that the knights setting up shop in K8P won't cause too much diplomatic trouble for Belengar, for example.

I don't think that Dwarfs would be very fond of random wizards being on every Karak.

I expect that we would have to settle with Karag Nar, and nearby valley/forest for Ghur and Ghyran.

Could I persuade you to drop visiting our friends? We have word of QM that picking up our research also involves swinging by to talk for a bit, and we really, really should be taking a look at what's in the other peaks before they blow up in everyone's faces.

We have no use for them really, and favor with Empire seems more useful than with Ambers at this point I think. While we could of course always use more, we are not short on magical artifacts.

[X] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.
This suggests a future assisting Karak Eight Peaks with its reconquest, as a Spymaster focused on threats within the Karak.

Once more, needs to be done and we are uniquely well suited for it. Whatever else we do, if we remain in KEP, we will be doing this as a side job at the very least.

[X] Join Karak Azul as they raid and scout in force the other portions of the Karak.

I want to see more of these dwarfs, and should synergies well with scouting above.

Before someone else claims it or something. It's too perfect a site to miss this chance. Also, while I do not think that we owe anything to Ranald at this time, he is a bro. Lets not make our relationship with him quid pro quo.

This suggests a future of investigation and study at Karak Eight Peaks, and perhaps helping Johann poke at Skaven technology.

Not sure about this one. Should synergise with the ongoing attempt to deal with them, and I would very much like to resolve this peacefully, but otherwise a paper like that is would almost certainly be a purely academic thing. Which would be useful if coexistence with these spiders is accomplished, but dwarfs and spiders... really not sure how beneficial and cost efficient combo that would be. Wouldn't mind seeing it done, but not gonna vote for it right now.

Gotta let our friends know that we have survived. And we have stuff there to check up on.

[ ] Make a full report on the geopolitical troubles among the Dwarven Empire, even though some of it was said to you in confidence.
This suggests a future performing an assignment the Grey Order thinks is suited to you.

...no. Lets not. Sure, it would be a good thing for Grey Order to know, but to break Belebros trust like that? When we plan to probably be his advisor, on Intrigue matters even maybe? Such a position is based on competence and trust in equal measure. Lets not do a repeat of being a double agent please, it was bad enough last time.

If magic 10 is the cap for humans than ascend beyond humanity! Don't let the idea of being stuck at only magic 10 because we are currently humans fester in your hearts! Be free from such restrictions! Go beyond!
I mean, we've been in Stirland most of our lives, and there's been made at least one Phantom Blood reference in-thread since the last update, so...

"I reject my humanity, Roswita!"

I suppose there is a metal argument to be made here as well. It would be really fucking disenheartening for all our gains to be wiped out because we didn't spend a turn scouting, and I don't think @BoneyM would do that. This is supposed to be a "what kind of game do you want to see" vote, after all. Simultaneously, our assistance in the right place can save a lot of Dwarf lives.

There's a lot to be said for the fact that BoneyM confirmed iirc that each peak has its own plot equivalent to what we've already seen going on and that if we don't get to them before they complete they'll blindside us. I don't think it's likely that we'll suddenly be booted out of K8P baring a series of Natural 1s but that doesn't mean that something horrible like losing loads of lifes can't and wont happen that leads to further ossification in the karaz-ankor where even their recent big victories turn into blood bathes.

I haven't catch up with the discussion yet but

Primary advantage of establishing EIC is not the trade imo, it's the steady stream of people moving in and out
and services that EIC would provide.
With EIC branch established, we can have news from out of K8P, have things ordered to us (should we need it), communication so we don't really have to visit our friends (although visiting would still be nice).

Re: position, I think Mathilde as a free agent would be better tbh, we qualify as all the councilor position and would make a nice agent that could help any advisor should they need it.

BoneyM seem to be the kind of GM to go with full logical conseqences, and to give random chance its due. By meta logic, Roswita should have never fired us from the council without giving us a chance.

Mathilde's going to have a good amount of free time regardless. Learning is effectively 'Free Agent but on call by Belegar if any weird shit is going on that we can troubleshoot'

The advisor position is just determining where our primary focus will be in our attendance here. Studying weird phenomena and saying no to enemy exotic attack vectors (Which the Dwarfs are traditionally poor at dealing with), Assisting in the reclaimation of Karak Eight Peaks directly by dismantling the efforts of the squatters? Ensuring no other chucklefucks decide to take advantage of the campaign to get some scalps? Or making sure this proto town can be fully developed into an economic powerhouse and a cosmopolitan hold that is to the land routes as Barak Varr is to the sea?

Like, we're going to have free time to dip into the other fields as needed anyway, having an official position means that the Grey College can present to anyone who asks and says "Yes, she's on assignment as per one of the Empire's founding tenets to honor our alliance with the Dwarf-folk, seeing that the Empire's interests are fulfilled there in light of the current distractions that are occupying our manpower, are there any issues with that?"

The Grey order would be rather pissed at us if we don't take an adviser position here and think we're slacking. You're right that Mathilde would fit any where and I think she'll be able to intervene to some degree in all branches regardless of which position she's taken.

Back to the scouting issue, I think if the Rangers were able to intervene in the plots going on in the other peaks we'd have learned about them in some fashion already.

Ah, I see then I'm tangentially on Learning.

And this, I think we can trust the Rangers to be competent in doing their job, it's their new home after all.
Speaking of rangers, we should realllyyy spend some time learning from them.

Is there any need for a proper visit?

Mathilde didn't pull a Felix Jaeger and spent years gone without any contact.

She was just away for a few months.
A proper visit can do things like setting up arrangements for the EIC to send our feelers to K8P or Anton to spread the news among the nobles in a way that has them interested in sending their own support for a chance at a cut.

Being mayor of humans here is pretty explicitly a position of responsibility for them, and not taking time for it would be seen as dereliction of duty.
I presume same would apply for Learning too, but it's inherently fuzzier because nobody's exactly sure what can it entail, and dwarfs never had court wizards to boot. Unlike trade/governor stuff of Stewardship, half of 'mandatory' stuff there is liable to be poking at Weird Shit, doing research of probable dangers and scouting out various dark places of the map - all things we probably wanted to do regardless.
(Stewardship of out bent is liable to involve a fair bit of Intrigue things too, of course, but I think it'd still involve more diplomacy and economics than Mathilde is alright with - while a bit vain, being always in center of attention is not quite her forte I assume)

Of course, Learning also means we may screw up and spend time on useless tangents and nonsense which will not make an actionable effect on Hold's health, so it's a bit more of a wildcard-y pick, I presume.
