I think using bound Knights on a tower would have worked a lot better than on a boat. Having a unit of knights sally out from a fortress to assault besiegers is something that should have a lot of cultural weight in the setting. Doing the same from boats seems less likely to.

Enchantments on a boat seem likely to work better at making it do things culturally associated with boats.

For the sake of various sanities, I'm closing the vote here, exactly ten weeks (yikes) after it opened.
I didn't support the ship, but on a meta level I support its victory. For the supermajority of the voting period, it commanded the #1 position, and when it was dethroned it was only ever for a day or so at most, and not by many votes. It wouldn't have felt fair, if one of the alternatives I supported had won under those circumstances; I'd prefer to see a more significant shift.

That said, this is the second time Parabola and I have been head to head in a significant vote lately and she has defeated me. Am I an old man now? Is my time over? Or will I need to reclaim my former glory in a rooftop duel with her in the rain while John Williams music plays?

That's why we should get some handmaidens and reflavour them as badass lady pirates* who can then crew the ship**.

*I think pirate infection is spreading from the other quest

**Not guaranteed to actually be able to crew a ship

Thinking of enchantments on a ship, I wonder whether it will basically be a seaplane, only able to take off or land on water, or not.

I also wonder about its endurance. Is this something that can fly forever, or will it be like some other enchantments we've seen, that need to recharge, so if we're travelling it needs to set down and charge up is batteries every so often.

That would imply we need different kinds of stealth capabilities, as we might need to set down in hostile territory for a while every so often.

Clearly the solution here is a variant of Knightbringer with the form of a Cothiquan Silver Helm.

Well, I'm not thrilled about this giant enchanted warship. On the other hand, you know who will be thrilled about it? Our apprentice, warship-enthusiast and fledgling enchanter. Eike has some cool self-study actions in her future.

Now that I think about it wouldn't she also be the one to inherit said enchanted marvel when Mathilde dies (assuming she doesn't take it down with her)? Man, Eike's luck just keeps getting more and more silly. :V

Rite of Way enchantment: This is mostly a feature to allow the ship to support an army. Basically installing a Rite of Way battle altar, allowing the ship to leave a massive blanket of Rite of Way fog behind it, thus allowing an army to benefit from the spell.
Correct me if im wrong, but doesn't Rite of Way currently use the ground to level out the surface via magical pothole filling? I don't think it works like that in midair.

-[ ] Possibly flat-bottomed to allow for landing on firm ground, if that makes sense vibes-wise

Thinking on the above, maybe the ship can have a few retractable (magic) struts that can be extended from the sides propping it up so it stays upright when landing on flat ground?

I feel that making the flying ship float at ground level to pull and army in its wake is a poor use of the ship.
Better to make a separate battle altar of Rite of Way that can be used without making the ship a giant target while also removing one of its greatest defensive features.

We should do sky writing with whispering darknesses.

Write "Fuck Marienberg!" using Apparitions

But if it doesn't get closer, how will Mathilde hit them with her sword?

My first instinct is to make them look like our girlfriend, after all it is a very Mathilde style of romantic gesture.

I think they meant the ship floating near the ground and doing the thing?

I was actually thinking of something along the lines of it being higher up and projecting it on the ground below.

But I will acknowledge the issue with doing something like that.

Another idea that I had was an illusion, one that obfuscates the exact location of the ship by projecting some illusionary copies around it.

Ever Shall We Fly New
The Azrildrekked stole Karaks from the dead, With sight that pierces through stone, The skies be ours and damn the Powers, Where we will, we'll roam.

Yo-ho, all hands, Hoist the Colours high, Heave-ho, thieving wizards, Ever shall we fly

Yo-ho, haul together, Hoist the Colours high, Heave-ho, Thieving Wizards, Ever shall we fly

Some will scribe, And some now derive, Others seek strength within, With Orbs for all Mages, And the devil to slay, We lay to Morr's Garden.

The Crown has been raised from its Aethyric grave, though we know not who owns, A call to all, Pay heed the squall, Turn to shield our home.

Yo-ho haul together, Hoist the Colours high, Heave-ho, thieving wizards, Ever shall we fly.

Yo Ho.

Is there a rough draft of a elfernship plan floating around suitable for next turn? From a a meta perspective is there any harm to borrowing two or even three actions from the following turn?

It may make Coin usage tricky and the voting more contentious as a result. It wouldn't be three actions, because then it would just be in the following turn.

I pushed for a split-cation last turn iirc to get the ball rolling, got no real traction.

I'm gonna be pretty open for a split elfcation next turn- well, unless anyone mentions the Father ever- because to me spending an ap on the ship and finishing scouting are extremely necessary, and so we need all the extra ap we can get.

I don't know how long the ship will take to build, but even if it would take multiple turns and we have a long ic time to work on it, I'd rather do it while the reward is still fresh in our memory and not after a whole mini-arc. Finishing scouting feels like a no brainer for elfcation, not to mention I've been envisioning bloodying Eike with Kazador and that psuedo-goodbye for like a year now

I hope that in the future we get an option for a dramatic rescue where Mathilde rides in to relieve a besieges city or fortress on her ship, bringing with her the fresh troops and supplies needed to hold out until the main force arrives.
