On the weapon, we'd likely want the best weapons for ourselves especially since we can't exactly improve or trade them. So personally, I'd really like to wait until we can gain some glomril or equivalent material.

Just enchanting our sword ourselves in the mean time or commissioning the college to do it might be a better idea. While Mathilde's spell selection might not be the best for a super sword, the other colleges like the Gold college can probably whip up something as good. Or Hysh. That can probably create a lesser version of Nasu-verse Excalibur.

Plus, we can probably trade that sword away for favors once we're upgrading.

As per Hero-level training and you will need to swear to live forever by the code of Gazul:

Always oppose all defilers of the dead, especially necromancers.
Never refuse to perform burial rites for any that perish.
Never enter or disturb a place of burial that has been blessed.

This is not a cross your fingers behind your back and you're all good oath, either. This is if you knowingly break it and they hear about it, suddenly the entire Skaven and greenskin races are bumped down a notch as you become public enemy kill-on-sight number 1 for literally every Dwarf.
Wow, quite a thing.

Never refuse to perform burial rites for any that perish.
Could you elaborate on this? Does this mean if someone requests such for themselves if they die or someone else that we have to do it, or is this like we have to help bury everyone who dies in front of us and isn't an explicit enemy of the Dwarves like Skaven and Greenskins?

Look man, I want to upgrade our gear as much as anyone else, but just trading away that sword for Favors isn't something I want to support. That sword, if we decided to get something new, should be hanging over our mantle in a place of honor. Not dropped off to whatever college takes it to be casually used by whoever the fuck grabs it.

If there's no ordained priests to perform the job and no immediate threat endangering you, you would need to perform at least a short ceremony (Ranaldite would do, but Gunnars would also teach you Gazul's) over each of the friendly dead.

Thorgrim Quest
I'm pretty sure Thorgrim Quest is receiving this something like this:
(GM: Okay guys things got weird with the dice and you have a diplomatic Interrupt that kind of needs to happen before next turn.)
(Average Player: Oh Gods... what went wrong now?)
(GM: I said weird not wrong. See Belegar is back with this human in grey robes and a hat wearing a greatsword on her back and...)
(Average Player: Wait that idiot who took off on a suicide reclamation quest as a like a teenager? He failed already... wait where is Kragg? The idiot got Kragg killed off already! NOOOOO!!!)
(Random Lore Addicited Player: Wait his crown has gems in it? Two of them... I think that means something... let me check the books to confirm, but thats actually a great sign.)
(Most Players: NOOO!!! Kragg is dead!!! They lost the anvil of Doom! didn't they? *Screams in incoherent, depression filled gibbering*)
(GM: I'll just continue in traditional blandness until so guys chill out. He responds with telling you he reclaimed his ancestral peak already.)
(Player base: *Replies only in elipses and staring bug eyed emojis.*)
(GM Continues in the stunned silence:"Crescent Mountain, Sunrise Mountain, and the Citadel have been taken. The Hall of Oaths and the King's Armoury survived. Death Pass is open."
(Player Base: *Dumbfounded Silence Intensifies*)
(Random player: Err... what... how... wait how much of his force died for that? )
(GM: of the 50k send in 9k dwarves died, but 1700 of those were Slayers so that technically those uncount as its more finding successful Dooms that actual deaths.)
(Random Player: How does that even work?)
(GM: They also got 40k various human troops as a buffer and 3k of those died in the process. Before you ask they took they took the Hall of Oaths and King's Armory intact so Kragg is on a study binge and the Anvil is only slightly dinged.)
(Lore Player: what about those greenskin tribes that wrong that Grudge.)
(GM: Local branches at least are just dead gone. Like dead to a snotling... I'm just going to move onto the Grudge archives while you all boggle.)
---
(GM: Okay you guys I send your response that you'll send a Throng and your frankly snippy comment about how long their crappy foothold will hold his response is well... *Posts verbal smadown speech*)
---
Meanwhile in Belegar Quest:
(Belegar player to Thorgrim Quest GM: WRONG CHANNEL! WRONG CHANNEL! That was a mispost! Don't post that! That will start a civil war for no reason... Oh ancestor gods...)
(Thorgrim GM: Too late, damage is done.)
---
Thorgrim Quest:
(Random Player: So they've moved on to rebuilding stage... and their biggest issue is some kind of siege on spiders in one of the residential wing?)
(GM: Err... yes. Giant Spiders granted, but its going to take several turns to resolve that mess. Also, there are an absurd number of trolls on that one mountain... like hundreds and hundreds of them.... like oh wow infinite trolls just camping that place. Like multi tier, exploding critical number of trolls on a max multiplier. The spiders are the thing annoying him though. He's like using it to banish people that annoy him to it. If it wasn't for the spiders and the disrepair of under paths it'd be a fairly clean sweep.)
(First Player to Recover: Lets's all nod and pretend that makes sense.)
(GM: *confusion over the lack of civil war intensifies*)
---
Meanwhile in Prince Gotri Stoneheart Quest:
(Gotri Player: That doesn't make any sense... what? Have they even managed to take that hangers... its been like a week sense they got there.. how did...)
(GM: Belegar bluntly says, 'Aye' and the High King informs you send and engineering corp detachment as well. Then like five minutes of rapid fire orders later they are gone.)
(Gotri Player: I have so many questions.)
---
Meanwhile in Belegar Quest:
(GM: ...and then your in the gyrocopter is off back to base again.)
(Belegar Player: Wait no civil war... just kind of granted me troops and shuffled me out the door.)
(GM: Yes... OOC though I think he is actually just searching for the hidden cameras... the other GM thinks they think you were punking them.)
(Mathilde Player: Wait... I had 35 favor to spend... I can't wait to see the logue for their reaction to dodging THAT bullet. On accident.)

I'm talking about whatever sword we get from the college. We can trade that away. Though we don't have to. I was just pointing out that was an option.

I'm kind of hesitant of spending lots of favor and gold on just improving our personal combat ability. We'll turn more and more into some extremely powerful hero unit. I know this seems desirable on its face, but this just turns this quest further away from any kind of management or advisory role and into a more standard adventuring/combat direction.

Once you have a really powerful hero unit, you will want to use it, because what use is it otherwise? So either we get the Sword of Ultimate Power and never use it or we use it for everything. Why delegate any combat tasks anymore if the best thing to do is just go out ourselves to deal with it?

I'd much rather use the favor on something larger than just personal items. Sure, maybe spend a third of it on a few items to improve our capabilities, but the rest? I'd rather use it more constructively. Maybe we can use it somehow to improve the relationship between dwarves and the Empire. I'm sure there will be some diplomatic or economic options in the future where this could be very helpful. Maybe get some important construction done or get some knowledge taught at a crucial moment.

Spending it on the biggest sword we can, right away, does not seem so great to me. What exactly can we do with a bigger sword that we currently can't? Do we really need to regularly duel enemy hero units? I'd rather we delegated that stuff. Maybe build up some personal elite combat team that we send out on dangerous missions instead of going ourselves every time.

@BoneyM

Would we be able to get double or triple refined Gromril?

How about Ithilmar?

If we got a Shield would we be able to have something similar to the Dyskblade from the Rygar Games? A Shield that is also a bladed Yoyo of Destruction.

Could a Sword be made that operates like the Whipsword that Ivy uses in Soul Calibur?

I'd like to reemphasize this bit by Alratan, guys. That shrine to Ranald is not so urgent as this. Days and weeks have passed, who knows what the enemy is up to.
Yes, the other peaks have their own plots going.

On the other hand, Belegar decided to settle and fortify. We're settling and fortifying.
Please note, that 20+ point weapon is not the only possibility. We can try for shield, (I think) talisman, cloak, etc. There is also Dwarf lore that would require much favour to get.

Mathilde is already killy and will get more so in future with Shadow Knives and battle magic. Getting something to disperse magic of miscast on commant may be better use. As is learning more Dwarf lore to improve Learning trait - which would help immensly in future.
Or we could spent 20 Favor to get three different factories built. How stoked would Belegar be at the Mhornokrul using her Dwarf Favour to bring prosperity to his hold? What a team player.

But nah, better sword fight good
Nah, I'm just voicing my thoughts about the recent debate 'to greatsword or to greataxe?' and the accidentally raised question 'just what exactly does the sword mean to Mathilde?'.

My thoughts got carried away a bit.

The hat can stay - I don't think it carries the same emotional baggage.
But we could spend 20 Favor and get a Gromril hat that shoots laser beams or something

@BoneyM

Would we be able to get double or triple refined Gromril?

No. The only ones who know how to double refine are like the blacksmithing equivalent of Kragg.

No.

If we got a Shield would we be able to have something similar to the Dyskblade from the Rygar Games? A Shield that is also a bladed Yoyo of Destruction.

There's a rune for that.

Could a Sword be made that operates like the Whipsword that Ivy uses in Soul Calibur?

To a certain extent, yes. It would take a fair bit of research and trial and error to see if you can do the breaking apart thing.

@BoneyM, according to the map while the path through the mountain is clear, any caravan would have to pass by the Black Fortress before they can get to Ind. Is it possible that we can join the caravan going to Ind to protect it and be a tourist in Ind for a few chapters?

[X] This is Dawongr Weber's money. The funds will largely go projects within the Karaz Ankor - your tower for one, but also investing in the Undumgi or Ulrikadrin, or purchasing goods made by Dwarven artisans or sold in the markets of Barak Varr.
[X] Karag Nar penthouse
[X] There's a growing concentration of royalty here. Get to know King Kazador, and this 'Sky-Thane' Prince Gotri.
[X] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to deal with the spiders in the Chiselwards.

Crackpot Endgame Goal Idea. Make a massive super complicated Ritual to create a permenent fog that causes people (Orks) to get lost entering it. Use it to try to create a natural defence protecting the Crappy Prince Land.. Wow, wrote that blurb before falling asleep last night and accidentally posted it this morning.
I just realized this was a thing that was said. Like, really? Dragons, Eagles, Skycutters, Daemons, Terradons, Ripperdactyls, Griffins, Wizards, Discs of Tzeentch, none of that counts?

It's slightly aluding to how the dwarves felt safe and secure underground because they believe they were the only underground conquerers. With very few downward defences when the Time Of Woes arrived, goblins and skaven poured out into the Holds starting the downward spiral of the Dwarves.

They never want to make the same mistake again.

He said that anything dealing with the East runs into the problem of it not being filled out in canon. Possible, but difficult, basically.

I'd really rather you didn't. Creating an entire subcontinent nearly from scratch would be a hell of a lot of work for a sight-seeing holiday.

For a long range weapon, I'd actually suggest a crossbow. Ulthar can teach us, it's silent (big advantage for assassination), and we know Dwarf understand how to enhance those (at least they can do bolt throwers).
The cross makes them a lot more bulky than a gun, bolts are bulkier and heavier than bullets and powder, a powerful crossbow is no faster to load than a gun and can't be made as repeater* like our pistol.
*Yes those magazine fed, lever operated Zhuge Nu crossbows exist but they're weak. They have to be when all the power comes from a single arm pull that the user can do quickly and repeatedly. Shit range and no armour penetration, only effective with poison.
The Zhuge Nu is a handy little weapon that even the Confucian scholar or palace women can use in self-defence... It fires weakly so you have to tip the darts with poison. Once the darts are tipped with "tiger-killing poison", you can shoot it at a horse or a man and as long as you draw blood, your adversary will die immediately. The draw-back to the weapon is its very limited range.[1]

I want 15 favor for our tower, 15 for the sword. Or pushing 20 on the sword, going for a 25 sword, when people are still debating getting an axe seems silly to me. If the majority vote to keep the great sword, I can see going for the biggiest shiney that ever shined in shine land and placing that 25 down for the greatsword. I want to place 20 on our tower, honestly but I think more favor should be spent on the weapon. I think having a 15 on the tower will make it secure enough for our needs at this moment, and having a dwarven made tower, is well boss. Another route to go, is to start saving dwarven favor to build a tower in our fief in stirland, a 25 favor dwarf tower. xD In that case, 5-10 favor for our new tower and 20-25 on a greatsword. A 25 Favor Dwarf made Mathilda Tower, picture such a thing, how beautiful it would be. xD

[X] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.

[X] Claim the site where Ranald mugged Mork and build a shrine to Ranald there.

[X] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to hatch the supposedly Lustrian eggs and study and possibly train whatever hatches

Dwarf good, Ranald good, snek juice extra good.
