Actually, it would probably be downright better to do the royal meet and greet after we Scout for more horrors. Come to them with the idea of future cooperation in mind, and with a good first impression of intel.

Hmm, actually you know, getting a 20 favor item for "deal with out of control magic" isn't too unreasonable.
A lot. The Karaz Ankor is blissfully unaware of the tidal wave of royal singles currently on its way down the Blood River.
Theres a lot of shipping shipping going on.
Yes, trying to find a Border Prince that is actually a decent human being and invest manpower and money into them until they dominate the region would be perfect.
The problem with the Border Princes are the same that plagued RL steppes:
-Vast amounts of land with few natural borders within it. This means horde type enemies can become a rolling doomball that sweeps up additional power as they get going and crush any possible organized structure. This is partly why China kept shattering into bits early on, you needed a polity powerful enough to dominate the whole area at one go, or once you actually got going everyone else teams up against you.

-Strong natural barriers preventing external parties from projecting force into the area. You can't leverage the Empire's technology and manpower to make a conquering push because the nozzle is small and easily choked off.

I.e. its basically set up such that a decent human being would probably die pointlessly. You want a ruthless and ridiculously powerful person to sweep the whole thing at one go and keep it contained for long enough that the civilization advantages can push the orcs out and stay out.
The natural ruler for the place is probably some kind of OP necromancer to be honest.
Our college favor seems to cover the colleges as a whole and I see no reason to to be limited to the grey college. That said, we should probably save thoughts of that for until we have the time to debrief the grey college and get a better idea on what we intend to do.
We had this explained before. The colleges basically can exchange favors internally at high efficiency.
Probably not going to win, but I still like the Abyss idea. "Eternally watching the Deep Dark, waiting for the skittering Skaven to rise up once again."

I reckon the dwarves would respect it, and we could spec the tower for max shadow magic and start creating MAPs of the area for the dwarves.
Uh, need to remind you that max shadow magic requires quite a lot of light and people. Shadows don't exist if light can't reach. The power of Ulgu comes from where there COULD be light, but isn't, for now. Or Fog/Mist, but the problem with that is probably keeping the mold off your books and expensive apparatus heh.
The Abyss is probably going to be average at best by the known metrics to measure it by.
He disapproves of Belegar not sufficiently valuing grudges but he also disapproves of Thorgrim not sufficiently valuing the restoration of the Karaz Ankor's former glory. So it's a wash.
Kragg: "You guys can't even traditional properly."

Not sure about the tower option but i like the options for clearing away existing backlog.

Trade is important, but Belegar also has the enormous hoard we recovered from Karak Nar to pay mercenaries for years. Better to make a slower start on economic matters in return for having a more secure foundation. We need to be able to walk before we can run, and we really don't want the one after next set of major caravans to come through Death Pass to be eaten by waiting skaven who understand the value of economic warfare that we had no idea were plotting something because the only agent Karak Eight peaks has that could infiltrate a skaven warren was too busy building monuments to their god to check on them.
Agreed. Secure the area first.

Something else to consider is that we're really not optimising our combinations for synergy here. For example, the following two options would seem to work together very well:

[] Join Karak Azul as they raid and scout in force the other portions of the Karak.
[] There's a growing concentration of royalty here. Get to know King Kazador, and this 'Sky-Thane' Prince Gotri.

Meeting probably the most successful dwarf general of modern times and the dwarves Air Marshall would work very well with Mathilde scouting and killing orcs. Between working out how to integrate aerial insertions into her tactics, and working with a brilliant dwarf general to work out how to integrate a shadow wizard's abilities best, this would be expected to produce greater results together than either apart.

Another similar pair would be:

[] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to deal with the spiders in the Chiselwards.
[] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.

If the Amber journeymanlings can broker an accord with the spiders we're going to need to know where best to send them to. We currently don't really have any idea.

I'm sure there are others. Also, I'm currently amused that the character sheet says:

Accumulated Treasures from the Karak Eight Peaks Expedition:
A set of five eggs the size of a man's head, allegedly from Lustria.
Four damaged scales from a wild Helldrake that attacked a trade ship.

The only treasures we recovered during the expedition were bought for gold from merchants. Ranald should certainly be sad about that. All the gold she actually received was paid to her. She may have embezzled and conned her own side, but she didn't do any actual stealing from the bad guys.

25 point armour, 25 point weapon, 25 point shield, 25 point talisman would be right on the brink of possibility.

Presumably you can't get something like a 25 point Crown and a 25 point belt?

I don't think he's suggesting assassination. :V

Who will rid me of that troublesome High King...

And then, surprise Grey Wizard!

Note that I am of course not serious.

Well, I wasn't suggesting we assassinate the High King. Though now, that you mention it, it's true that Dwarves tend to live very long, so could be worth a shot :V

Forever, if they're sufficiently fixated, as Thorgrim likely is.

@BoneyM, would a "grounding rod" be a thing dwarves could make for Mathilde? It seems logical for me that they could, even if the specific application as a "grounding rod" never came up for them. Bonus points if it's not actually a rod because it works on different principles. A grounding rod that sucks and then disperses magic would be neat, too, though.

They could have a whack at it.

I just realized this was a thing that was said. Like, really? Dragons, Eagles, Skycutters, Daemons, Terradons, Ripperdactyls, Griffins, Wizards, Discs of Tzeentch, none of that counts?

Animals and warpbeasts. Kragg frowns in your direction.

Lustrians are isolationist, the dragons were there beforehand and have fallen hard, Daemons and beasts are not so prevalent or in such numbers as to qualify as a traditional "power" and nor do individuals like wizards.

Whoops, fixing.

Presumably you can't get something like a 25 point Crown and a 25 point belt?

Both would count as talismans, which are limited to one.

And yeah, but I thought this was broadly from Mathilde's point of view, not the Dwarves.

She has the same lofty disdain for those that are content with whatever advantages their nature gave them instead of striving to conquer new frontiers.

Like, the dwarf approach is comparing having boats to having really strong swimmers isn't it?

Exactly. You can have all the sea monsters you like but it's still not a navy, and in the same way the Dwarven Aircorp has no peer.

No grudge striking party :( but we did get an air force :)

[ ] This is Dame Weber's money. The funds will largely go towards investment in Stirland - possibly your fief, possibly the EIC, possibly investing elsewhere within the province.
I don't think Dame Weber and Stirland can take this much money all at once.

[ ] This is Magister Weber's money. Make no attempt to push the funds through any of the available loopholes and spend it all in plain sight of the College. You would be beholden to spend it on ways at least nominally good for the Empire, and soon.
Nominally good for the Empire is fine (and frankly will be expected of us whichever option we pick) but being in a hurry clashes with spending it well.

Lots worthwhile ways to spend around here.

[x] Karag Nar penthouse
The first possibility that leaps to mind is the uppermost dwelling of Karag Nar, with a beautiful 360-degree view and a commanding position. The Black Orc Warboss' reasons for taking it for his own are obvious, and though it will take some time and effort to clear out the possessions that hadn't been safely stowed in the King's Armoury, it is bursting with potential and would allow you to keep a careful eye on the Undumgi and Death Pass.
Much as we like Dwarves, we are human and living by the human community is good for our mental heath. Also the foreigners quarter is going to be where we do a lot of our inrigue actions. edit: View of dawn and dusk is good for ulgu.

[ ] Karag Lhune secondary peak
The second possibility is the secondary peak of Karag Lhune that the greenskins positioned their Doom Diver battery atop. The landing pad atop it was made redundant thousands of years ago when a full hangar was built atop Karag Lhune, and it's just as redundant for modern gyrocopters as it was to ancient airships so it would be yours for the taking. The storerooms below offer plenty of room for expansion and you'd be conveniently close to the heart of the resurgent Karak.
Not bad, if we were celestial order we could build an observatory. But we're not so KN is better.

[x] There's a growing concentration of royalty here. Get to know King Kazador, and this 'Sky-Thane' Prince Gotri.
You don't get a second chance to make a first impression.

[x] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.
We can get into areas no one else can but the Rangers and the Azul throng can spot incoming threats for now. Next turn for definite.
edit: now is better

[x] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to deal with the spiders in the Chiselwards.
This suggests a future assisting Karak Eight Peaks with its reconquest, as a Spymaster focused on threats within the Karak.
I want them around long enough to write their section of the paper and I think threats within the Karak should be a big part of our future

[ ] Join Karak Azul as they raid and scout in force the other portions of the Karak.
Battle is not our main job.

[ ] Claim the site where Ranald mugged Mork and build a shrine to Ranald there.
Ranald is cool but I'm not that interested in acting as pseudo-priest, we have a big backlog of stuff to research and stats to raise before we get into theurgy and there doesn't seem to be any competition for the space at the moment - not urgent. We can tap up an actual priest of Ranald when we next visit the Empire and we can leave claiming the shrine til we have one. I don't want to be Mayor. Mayors can't skip back to the Empire for a few weeks or months whenever they need to/feel like it.

[x] Write a series of papers on the magical phenomena you witnessed. Or better yet, get your Journeymanlings to do the actual writing.
This suggests a future of investigation and study at Karak Eight Peaks, and perhaps helping Johann poke at Skaven technology.
Having some academic writing to drop off when we go to the college can only help show that we're still a proper grey even as we try to justify splitting off another legal person to own an even bigger embarrassment of wealth than Dame Weber.

[ ] King Belegar is allowing you to use the King's Armoury. Recover your extant study materials from Stirland and tuck them away safely in there.
The follow up to claiming the tower, I'm [edit: not] giving it a vote now but I don't mind if it doesn't win now. As with the following:

[ ] All this time away has made you miss your friends. Visit Anton and Wilhelmina.
[ ] You're going to have a rough time explaining your windfall to the Bursars. Better to get that over with.
[ ] You've been out of touch for a while. Head to Barak Varr and then Altdorf, and catch up with what's been happening in the Empire.

a trip back to the Empire can wait for the full turn.

A very excellent point. I'm now wanting to do the first two next turn, there will likely still be opportunity for a shrine to Ranald or getting that box even outside of the epilogue updates.

We need to get to work with Johann to reverse the ratling gun and slap a pair on each gyrocopter.
Seconded. The "mount Vietnam" tag is there for a reason.

..wait, where did that tag go???

She may have embezzled and conned her own side, but she didn't do any actual stealing from the bad guys.

Excuse you, we literally stole a sliver of god power. Via medium of running a metaphysical con job - going through counterritual to take on a mantle of Mork Chosen.

I disagree regarding the scouting thing. The more time passes, the more likely some sort of reaction from our enemies, and we are best suited for finding out what they're doing.

And that's discounting any thoughts of future reconquest and occupation. But if want either involving the reconquest we need to actually work on it.

Lustrians are isolationist, the dragons were there beforehand and have fallen hard, Daemons and beasts are not so prevalent or in such numbers as to qualify as a traditional "power" and nor do individuals like wizards.
No, but several powers have access to these. Notably the various factions of Elves, the armies of chaos whenever they march south, and just about everyone except the Dwarves have wizards of some stripe.

She has the same lofty disdain for those that are content with whatever advantages their nature gave them instead of striving to conquer new frontiers.
Hmm. Not sure I'd take 'made friends with something that could instantly kill me' as taking an advantage of my nature, but I guess I see what you're saying.

We'd be ordering our Amber Wizards to take care of the dinosaurs and train others in dealing with them, that's not going to cost us favors. Presumably Mathilde would be paying for supplies and people's time but considering labor costs that's just a drop in the bucket to our wealth.
Eh, I will just take a note here that the Ambers aren't ours, per se. They were put under Mathilde during the duration of the expedition, but the Ambers came even earlier than her, following the Taal knights, compared to the Jade and second Gold who came after Mathilde asked the College.

Asking them to help solve the spider problem, and then asking them to help with hatching the eggs probably are just rolls, getting harder when there are no Taal knights around. Asking them to stay and create a stable as well as training regime for dino cavalry is a bit different, I think, unless the dinos are sufficiently interesting to them, and that the dinos can acclimate to the mountainous region.

Hmm, I just remembered about the cold-blooded thing the Amber noticed, so probably not good on areas with winter climates then?

Eh, anyway.

Following weapon talk, something as strong as the Seed or the As-Yet to be Named Rune Belt is probably good enough, for now.

But I would suggest doing stuff like triple-dipping, like nudging Ambers to spent their favors to get some training in regards to tracking and fighting Skaven, then boosting with Mathilde's own favor to get better trainer. Golds are abit harder, since getting metallurgy or smithing trainer is going to be far more expensive than dwarves training others to hunt their hated enemies, but perhaps they can get some Longbeards to chat about concepts instead of practical techniques? No clue what the Jade might ask training in though, perhaps non-fungi dwarf crops that can be useful to some Empire lands?

I think there will be a future study on the colleges about how someone very bad at diplomacy can nevertheless become so important as a diplomat (by being crazy like a fox)
