[X] This is Dawongr Weber's money. The funds will largely go projects within the Karaz Ankor - your tower for one, but also investing in the Undumgi or Ulrikadrin, or purchasing goods made by Dwarven artisans or sold in the markets of Barak Varr.
[X] Karag Nar penthouse
[X] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to deal with the spiders in the Chiselwards.
[X] Write a series of papers on the magical phenomena you witnessed. Or better yet, get your Journeymanlings to do the actual writing.
[X] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.

Changing vote. Arguments for scouting are convincing.

I mean for all that it's a schism in thought the High King still told his subordinates to support Belegar, their disagreement is in the why. He's still supporting him though.

Assuming a Belegar having fully restored the Queen of the Silver Depths. If Thorgrim die, what are the odds that he could get himself elected High King? Thus cementing a drift of the Empire toward a more, ah, progressive view? @BoneyM

Mmmhmm. I entertained the thought too a little. I don't think we should try anything with it right now, but doing Things in the Border Princes to link it with the Empire and K8P is definitely viable in the future arcs of the quest after we sort out our current Things with K8P Research.

Depending on how much trade increases between the empire and Barak Var I could see the different trade companies banding together to build fortified waystations on the south road while hiring mercenaries to keep them safe and ward off any of the border princes looking to tax them.

Put external speakers on them, use them to ferry rangers while playing 'I'm no Thane's Son' out loud.

We need to get to work with Johann to reverse the ratling gun and slap a pair on each gyrocopter.

We can still do both "Ambers stay" and papers and have room for, say, the "scout the rest of the Eight Peaks" option.
Mmhm.
I basically want future to be a mix of what we did in Stirland and in Reclamation: intrigue, gathering intel, figuring out magic and stabbing assholes. All with good bros like Belebro. I do not want to be a mayor or whatnot tbh, magical spymistress Mary Stabbins is a good career IMO.

Changing vote to set of options most likely to net that.

@BoneyM, then if those many favors can't be encapsulated in a single object, they could be use to create full gear worthy of a king? Like, armor, melee weapon and guns?

On a completely unrelated matter, I'm making a dwarf jumpchain. Apologies for the self-promotion.

[X] This is tomorrow's problem. Let the money sit in the King's Armoury for now. Once you've decided what your future will be, then you can decide what to do with the money.

This suggests a future assisting Karak Eight Peaks with foreign relations, as a Spymaster focused on threats outside the Karak.

The only item I'd love to get from the dwarves would be their version of a grounding rod.

While they don't need it for the same reason wizards do, they have to have ways to deal with stray dangerous magical phenomena, outside of Kragg scowling at them until they go away. The belt already does this for enemy spells, but not everything will be a targeted spell. Applications would be: The aftermath of enemy miscasts (which could take years to clear up naturally), those natural pools of Dhar that apparently accumulated occasionally, and of course Mathilde's own miscasts.

Basically, what I want is a Spell Eater Rune that can be triggered manually. Maybe remove the part that removes the knowledge of the spell from someones mind, though I'm not sure whether that would apply for miscasts anyway.

and though no other power have followed the Dwarves into the sky, some of the strange weapons that bristle upwards and track your approach suggest that they are determined not to be caught unprepared
"powers"
Either way, when the stairs finally give out and place you at the entrance to the famed Great Hall, as if you had entered from the front, and the doors open for your party.
remove the last "and"
I've seen alot of arguments for keeping them, but I don't recall seeing any for ditching them yet beyond they consume an action. Writing the papers loses it's synergy if we cannot get the Amber Wizards to stay at least for the duration of the paper-writing.
I'm just interested in convincing them to abandon their already great positions for Mathilde's personal gain. If I want more Amber mages, I'd suggest telling the Colleges of the wonderful learning opportunities in K8P.

This expedition has just become even more important. This is a pivotal moment in Dwarven history. Whether Belegar succeeds or fails will determine whether the Dwarves go down a path of reconquest and regrowth or a path of vengeance and doom.

[X] This is Magister Weber's money. Make no attempt to push the funds through any of the available loopholes and spend it all in plain sight of the College. You would be beholden to spend it on ways at least nominally good for the Empire, and soon.

I see no contradiction. We get rid off the money by aiding the reconquest of Karak Eight Peaks, which will open trade routes and keep the Dawi from spiralling into depression. This is important to the Empire.

All fine by me.

[ ] The Grand Abyss

This is certainly interesting and if there were a dearth of interesting things to do, I would vote for it. But we don't need more fascinating options, we need a safe place where we can do our research.

[X] There's a growing concentration of royalty here. Get to know King Kazador, and this 'Sky-Thane' Prince Gotri.

if we want a future helping out Karak Eight Peaks, we will need to get to know the important personages.

[X] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.

Very enthusiastic scouting is what Mathilde has done best so far, and I would like to continue doing so.

[X] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to deal with the spiders in the Chiselwards.

Maybe the spiders are intelligent. Maybe we can make peace with them. Long shot, but I am willing to take it to keep Fantasy from devolving into 'There is only War'.

[ ] Join Karak Azul as they raid and scout in force the other portions of the Karak.

I would rather be a sneak and scout than a battlewizard.

[ ] Claim the site where Ranald mugged Mork and build a shrine to Ranald there.

Really tempting, but can hopefully be done later.

[X] Write a series of papers on the magical phenomena you witnessed. Or better yet, get your Journeymanlings to do the actual writing.

Writing on new magical phenomena unknown to the Colleges is an important part of our job. Also more interaction with the Journeymanlings.

[ ] King Belegar is allowing you to use the King's Armoury. Recover your extant study materials from Stirland and tuck them away safely in there.

We won't start studying the Snake Juice etc. before our tower is finished, so this can wait.

[X] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to hatch the supposedly Lustrian eggs and study and possibly train whatever hatches.

Mostly approval voting to keep the Amber Journeymanlings around. Finally getting some use out of one of the shinies we picked up is attractive, though.

[ ] All this time away has made you miss your friends. Visit Anton and Wilhelmina.

I really want to, but we have so little time.

[ ] You're going to have a rough time explaining your windfall to the Bursars. Better to get that over with.

Eh. Just spend the money helping the Dwaves, keep the receipts and explain once someone asks.

We should probably ask what Ranald would prefer here. Does it serve him best for Mathild to take on the role as local leader of the Cult of Ranald? He has many other priests who could do that. What serve him best is making sure that it's possible to have a community of humans at Karak Eight Peaks at all, and minimising the chance that they'll end up as goblin or skaven gnawed bones is the best way to ensure that happens.

Fundamentally, as long as Karak Eight Peaks is in friendly hands, Mathild will be a VIP. She's well on her way to being personal friends with the dwarven leadership, and she'll be (in)famous amongst the old guard of experienced human settlers who are the heroes of the initial battle. As someone else pointed out, the orc's reaction to her natural 100 dispel looks an awful lot like Shadow battle magic cast on a vast scale, and while very few of the mercenaries that fought here will have seen that in action, one or two probably will, and so the news will spread*. If Mathilde wants to claim the temple of an evil god, even if someone else was foolish enough to occupy it, even a hint should be enough to get it, and not just to curry favour, but when a wizard tells you to move out of a place like that, you don't ask for a second, you move. Adventurers in Warhammer may have their own brand of recklessness, but any surviving ones will be appropriately afraid of the dangers mysterious evil magic.

Althoughter, this ,eans that claiming the temple can be put pretty much at the end of the priority list. We'll probably want to get to it in a couple of years, after a priest of Ranald who can actually run the place and cast the divine ritual required to actually consecrate the place drifts in, but at the moment Mathilde is to busy to establish it,much too busy for the full time job of tending to a congregation, and can't even perform the divine magic required to actually turn it into a real temple. It shouldn't be considered on the same type of list as the options that have actual urgency.

* as a side note, that's a reason to write papers for the College early, to outrun the worst of the gossip.

I mean for all that it's a schism in thought the High King still told his subordinates to support Belegar, their disagreement is in the why. He's still supporting him though.

Yea, the Empire could learn a lot from the example of a fundamental disagreement about basic principles resulting in dispatching a substantial military expedition lead by a prince in support of the other party.

Assuming a Belegar having fully restored the Queen of the Silver Depths. If Thorgrim die, what are the odds that he could get himself elected High King? Thus cementing a drift of the Empire toward a more, ah, progressive view?

Hmm. That sounds a but risky, even for Mathilde...

@BoneyM, would a "grounding rod" be a thing dwarves could make for Mathilde? It seems logical for me that they could, even if the specific application as a "grounding rod" never came up for them. Bonus points if it's not actually a rod because it works on different principles. A grounding rod that sucks and then disperses magic would be neat, too, though.
