There's also a movement to use the We as scribes though.
until they learn to do that as well.

in the long term, they could, and probably will, take over every role.
Yeah, that could be a very real concern. I mean, I'm not voting for the We in this one, I'd certainly not vote for them to be scribes if they become librarians - the locals might feel a bit alienated if Lady Magister Weber thinks her spider friends can do everything in her library besides actually building it and its surrounding facilities.

As people have said, it'd run a bit counter to the intent of making it a library "for and by all the good people of the world, whatever their species".

I voted for the We, but I think the argument of "The Locals option actually will not have the community-building/integration aspect that it is described to have" is very silly.

As for the ability for the We to double as scribes, Boney mentioned that they could become Scribes. I imagine they'd be very good at it, but they'd also be location limited: if we want scribes outside of the Library itself, then we'd need to hire people outside of the We. So the We as scribes would be good at copying books we already own for the purposes of loaning/selling, but not useful for say, going to the Library of Mournings and copying a bunch of books from there.

Basically, the ability for the We to take on multiple library-related jobs is mostly dependent on whether that job can be done entirely within the Library itself, because the We are so restricted by location.

By what means can Chaos tempt the We?
Ooh, I kinda want to see how some demon will try to explain to We concepts of Chaos, Corruption, Ambition, whatever else they think will work.

"Any species, as long as they don't act against the Civilized Realms and are willing to swear the proper oaths."
Wasn't this about access, not staff?

"We can't do this because it's a modern concept, and warhammer is a shithole medieval world" is a dumb excuse. Why is "historical realism" more important than Mathidle being able able to grow her library as a community place?
What stops library from being community place with We as librarians? Do they stop anyone from entering? Prohibit meetings? Crack down on discussions?

Guess I'll add approval vote for We.

[x] Cython
[x] We

I think it was about both.
I don't see why that would be an issue though.
I mean i don't think the idea was to hire people just to get a diversity quota?
If someone wants a job as a librarian, all they need to do is to show why they are more qualified than a giant spider that is part of the intelligent hivemind that already knows where all the books are.

I never said it prohibits it being a community space, I said the locals options is specifically an opportunity to create a community space. It's a trade off—have an all-knowing psychic hivemind or integrate the local community into it as staff, who will focus on cultivating services for their friends, family and neighbours.

The We as librarians is Peak Zhuf logic. Sentient hivemind spiders would make exceptional librarians, therefore they must get the job.
But there are other factors in play:

Think of the scene with Francesco Caravello visiting Mathilde, or when Mathilde got Belegar the Dragon Obelisk.

She has a massive blindspot when it comes to "what ordinary people will be fine with"

Wait, how local literacy affected by what type of librarians are there?
What not reading reason would there be if we hire locals?
If we are looking for Local librarians, there will be more incentive for locals to become literate. It's an interesting, cushy job.
And if the parents become literate for their job, it's more likely that they will teach their kids to read.

Neck and neck. If you have a preference between We and Locals, seriously consider approval voting. If you prefer Cython to both, consider approval voting that, as there is still some chance of Cython overtaking both options.

That is interesting point. Do we let these locals, who we teached how to read also guard restricted section? Or there will be some different guard?

[x] Locals

I think this is best for getting the library used by non-scholars and for building connections between people. Hopefully Cython and the We will visit or even work with the library.

[X] Cython

Cython is a fun character we don't see enough of.

"Being a librarian" is an interesting job if you love to read. Which means that person who can't read wouldn't think of it like that and that wouldn't motivate them to become literate to get the job.

Yeah, even adding in the two votes that went "We" instead "The We", then the spooders are winning over Locals by 4 votes alone.

I would expect the Restricted section would be trusted to Oathsworn dwarf guards. Less likely to be bribed, and unlikely to go read Magic books.

I think you are secverely overestimating the size of this library relative to the population.
It's going to be the biggest library in the old world.
It will employ quite a few people, in various roles. People who have friends and families.

The interesting part is the scholars, hopefully coming from all over the world, with interesting tales.
These are people who travelled a long way for knowledge, most of them will talk to the librarians about what they're looking for, and what they're studying.
And bring news.

It's interesting.

I am, more than slightly dubious about that.
Compared to mining, farming, smithing or fighting?
