The problem isn't whether we weaken the Dark Elves or stir up some infighting. It's that we demand attention. Especially if we somehow blow up a Black Arc. If we somehow pull that off, the Beastmen will be the least of our problems.
Not really. If we actually wipe out two black arks, it means that Druuchi take one of the greatest blows they have ever taken outside of the hands of Asur. And sure, that means they will be seething, but they will also have to cope, because they flat out cannot shake out forces to deal with the kind of danger this implies by brute force.

We should expect assassins, but Malekith just can't afford punitive campaign for us. The Asur will most likely viciously push the advantage that this raid has created for them, and if those forces never return, they might continue pushing. If the Asur fleet that is pursuing the other two black arks rolls well at least.

EDIT: Well, that is what i get for not reading the entire thread first. I do think Malekith won't have the time to push our shit for centuries thought, and by that point, who cares.

I just noticed this, and makes me wonder what the Ostermark quest is titled, a Dynasty of Faith and Stoutness?:p
I really want to know if @torraor has a list of alt-quest names saved up.

I was going to suggest Magnus The 1st's quest could be "Dynasty of Faith, Steel & Gunpowder" (he's a special boy so he gets three words) but then I remembered he's very much against starting a Dynasty. His players probably had a landslide vote.

The second the Waystone Project gets finished or shows signs of success at the Arcane Fulcrum then it will already be too late. If things go worst case scenario for Marienburg, this excursion may well be the weakest that Sakalken may ever be as a landing point from here on out.
Why would the WP affect Malekith so much? Less Dhar? Waystones that Empire wizards can draw from?

While Malekith would be incensed about the loss of assets that were already defeated (heaven forbids if Ostland + Allies actually manage to sink at least one Black Ark) I thought that we believed that the Druchii currently attacking the Trident went behind his back (which is why there are 2 Black Arks in Ostland while Malekith is busy taking Ls in Ulthuan). So the real faction that is likely to swear vengeance against the Trident and act on it would be the Druchii nobility (houses?) which funded this punitive expedition.

the loss of the attendant fleets of two Black arks with all hands is huge , it could decades to replace all those ships and centuries to acquire new crews of similar levels of skill , not to mention its still two whole fleets gone completely

your making some pretty bold assumptions about those nobles surviving after costing Malekith two entire fleets lost pointlessly along with possibly losing irreplaceable Black arks depending on how stuff in Ostland pan out

Institutional investment from Ulthuan. For the moment the Arcane Fulcrum is a highly prestigious research lab that was small enough that it could be written off as being controlled by Alurians household, backed further by Teclis throwing his weight behind the project.

Once that kind of thing succeeds though, forces will move to nationalize it for Ulthuans wider benefit, as then its value will no longer be theoretical but very very concrete. Nexuses of magical energy are incredibly rare, but not unique.

A facility to produce Waystones will quite literally be one of a kind, possibly more valuable to Ulthuan than Albion would have been to the Druchii. And that value will demand additional investment, like what was done to secure Bugmans Brewery once he settled down there for real.

So how many more High Elves would Ulthuan be willing to send to guard the Fulcrum?

You know, it strikes me that even if absolutely everything goes right for the Druchii from now on? They sack Salkalken, kill Freddy, etc, with minimal further losses? There's still going to be a lot jostling for not being in charge of this mess when they return home; this was a punitive raid for the sake of pride, and they've already lost all their support vessels and two nigh-irreplaceable black dragons. And things are probably only going to get worse for them from now on. This is very much a situation you do not want to be in any way associated with.

Whoever shoulders the blame for this fiasco is going to be made an example of.

and they will fail since its not owned by Ulthuan , its rented to house Alurian by Ostland in no uncertain terms and we aren't selling
That's neither here nor there, the push will be made and as a result investment will move in to secure the facility further.

Everything else is quibbling about shit we probably wont care about

More than one, less than all of them

Yeah once it has actually proven its worth, its value, or, at the very least, the interest in keeping it in one piece, will rise.

Not sure how much more will the elves contribute, but it will be something. Not sure about being paid more thought. Probably not in the stars. I also am not sure if it is Teclis backed, i thought it was former White Tower of Hoeth head-honcho pet project, not his. Could be wrong, when i reread the quest, its usually for epic battles, not for details like these.

What happened to the former head? Did he get replaced by Teclis? Dead? Alive but retired?(COuld have used him here)

Time isn't on Malekiths side here, though.

The second the Waystone Project gets finished or shows signs of success at the Arcane Fulcrum then it will already be too late. If things go worst case scenario for Marienburg, this excursion may well be the weakest that Sakalken may ever be as a landing point from here on out.

The Elves simply will not allow it, and neither will the Dwarves. Especially should Barak Varr fail to arrive here in time to make a difference to that fight.

Malekith may operate in far greater time spans, but Ostlands already laying the groundwork for generational gains to transform the province utterly. That's actually a major instigating factor for the Beasttide in the first place.

If they dont strike and succeed now, then they'll never get a better chance. To the same, if lesser, degree than what the outcome of Albion was for the Fimir.

If even one of the Black Arks playing rearguard sinks, and one of them fails to return from Sakalken, then that's three Black Arks lost to the Druchii in a decade, not to mention the potential loss of Albion itself.

And if Ulthuan winds up taking Ostland seriously in the same way that the Eonir undoubtedly already are?

Like...we actually held back in prepping for the defense at Sakalken. If the Beasttide hadnt been considered a factor. If we had more time to deliberately build up at scale. If we had opportunity and knowledge of how to prep Sakalken for a fucking plurality of Black Arks?

Hell, if the Elves and dwarves did too?

Like, Malekith not only has to plan around regaining lost ground to Ulthuan. He'd need to do so while also scheming out a way to shake loose sufficient Black Arks to land them with any chance of success in order to make that statement.

Along with sufficiently competent Dreadlords to actually make sure that the attempt sticks.

Time doesnt just favor long lived individuals. Its also the ally of firmly built civilizations as well.

Edit: Freddie's children and the Herd are unironically Proof of Concept that his insane training regimen works in producing superior martial badasses. Meaning that the Hohenzollerns can reliably produce Hero units fully capable of matching enemy supercombatants. Maybe not a Freddy and Urgdug every single generation, but that matters less in the face of raw accumulation over time and generations.

Should the Trident survive and consolidate its gains, Ostland is only going to become stronger and stronger so long as it's well managed even without Freddie's reputation to give it cover to grow.

I get what you are saying but Malekith and the Dark Elves have been kickedof Ulthuan before and been beaten to the point the High Elves thought they were not much of a threat any more but they recovered and continued to be a blight on the world.

This would be a blow but nothing they have not had before

I think the only way this is a big Fiasco is if we can kill the Chosen of Khaine and even then Malekith will not be to upset as he will only be losing a Elf that only really takes orders from Khaine himself and that only increase his control of the cult.

What happened to the former head? Did he get replaced by Teclis? Dead? Alive but retired?(COuld have used him here)

Belenar the Wise was the boss of the White Tower before he stepped back some so Teclis could take the job but we have heard nothing of him kicking the buck yet.

Ceyos actually. Unless they take different name. But thats the name of ex-High Loremaster in eternity stair compound forces.

Sure, but usually the only good licking they suffered was from Asur, not losing two super powerful pieces to an outside threat. Druuchi are not done by a long shot but they are pretty vulnerable right now, and if the other two Dark arks get punished hard by the Asur fleet pursuing them too, it will be quite the blow.

... We have a High Loremaster LITERALLY WITHIN RIDING DISTANCE.
And he's not helping? Deus mio I hate him already.

Honestly I was fine with our friend not helping because the Eternity Stair mind whammied her into having the personality of a particularly stupid AI.
But we have someone who could be ritually bitchsmacking the shit out of these Druchii with battlefield/storm of magic spells because we've given him A MONTH to prepare. AND HE'S CHILLING OUT IN HIS INVISIBLE BUNKER??

I am upset. We should edit our contract to include long range spell support.
If the beasttide comes then I hope they'll help then.

The Asur are not actually the world police, although they still make moderate effort to approach that ideal once again, and most remain uninterested in the affairs of man. If I was an Archmage who placed only middling value on the life of, very arguably, objectively lesser foreigners who are all going to die in a blink of the eye anyways, I too would place advancing and protecting my world shaking research over risking my (old and retired) neck in battle.

The actual existent me would disapprove of this elves archmage me, but I can see where they're coming from.

I will go back and check but I was going of of Cannon lore that Belenar was the High Loremaster before Teclis. Still the guy at the Fulcrum would be any interesting character to talk to.
It depends on what source you use.

5th edition Armybook says his name was Cyeos, Sword of Caledor says his name was Morelian, and End Times say it was Belannaer.

yeah, a former high loremaster should be on the level of Morathi as far as Magic bs goes. Him not deciding to help at all is, well, understandable from his perspective, what with protecting the fulcrum plus the constant attacks on it, but still.

That´s a bummer

*Meanwhile in A Dynasty of Salt and Blood /negaverse thread*

*Post new interlude, Spike, Horns and Stone*

Roarrto : Here is a sneak and peak for the other side. Featuring special guest character Kerillian from the Vermintide series.

D-did the Count of Ostland just won an aerial duel against a Dreadlord and his black dragon?

By cutting the poor dragon dongliz off, no less.

That is one bigass deer.

He's been in the quest before, actually.

From between two closely grown trees bursts a gigantic stag out from the undergrowth, one you have seen before years ago the last time you were in Laurelorn. Its fur is a rich earthy brown, shot through with whorls and patterns of slightly luminescent green. It lets loose another screech as it thunders forwards, lowering its head and making use of its enormous antlers to simply bowl over, crush, and destroy all of the dryads who turned to try and fight it. It only comes to a halt just before the tree, huffing out columns of steam from its nose while eyeing Naraiel with a shocking amount of intelligence in its eyes. Then the beast bows its head, ever so slightly. The Lady of Laurelorn leaps upwards, lighter than a feather it seems as she uses the antlers themselves to rise up and over before settling atop the creature's back. Naraiel then arched her back as you watched and sucked down a deep lungful of air.

He also featured heavily in the Battle of the Bone Gate. I'm pretty sure I gave his name somewhere. Can't find it ATM, as I am just on my phone right now. But he's really, really big. In the Battle of the Bone Gate he got a big spear shoved into him and punctured by what seemed like 100 arrows, and largely just went 'ow' and then kept fighting.

For the record, he's the largest Great Stag in the Empire. There are others, like the Taal-blessed one that acknowledged Magnus the Pious leading up to the GWAC, but this one is bigger.

Specifically, look at this moose:

View: https://youtu.be/HNfetnUwOUo

Naraiel's Great Stag is about half again as tall, and four times as muscled/thick with sheer fur and mass. When I said she can ride stop him by just standing outright, I meant it was almost a mobile platform rather than a comparatively skinny warhorses back.

And, you know. Being shaped like a Great Stag instead of a moose. Someone posted a Total War Warhammer pic which covers his general shape and what not, only you gotta scale it up as mentioned.

No, it's saying that they've been driven off, as opposed to defeated entirely. The sentence works fine even if it's a touch awkward. Could be restructured as 'The Druchii had never been defeated in the entire history of the Empire, only driven off.' I suppose.

I like that. Fixing.

Out of curiosity was this rolled for or purely narrative?

Rolled. Just like how it was in Kislev. All three offered interlude options were, as noted, to have already happened in the past though the period varied.

Harvesmuir. Name is mentioned in Lovely Laurelorn 6.

"We need to get them out of here!" You shout at Ashnia as she kneels over the fallen great stag.

When she turns to you, her eyes have changed again, this time to the exact coloration and shape as the stag itself.

"I must stay and help heal Harvesmuir," she grunts as she shakes her head at you. "Our steeds will carry you to the Queen."

Good lord, @torroar. Just how badly did the dice dunk on the Druchii for this outcome?

I don't know if I've seen a drubbing this bad in one of your quests since the 100 vs 1 rolls in Blood Ravens. That was an especially bad day to be Xenos.

It was a combination of factors. The Eonir haven't left Laurelorn in force basically...ever, in the history of the Empire. But they applied their usual tactic which has exterminated multiple Imperial armies over the years, as well as Norscan raiding attempts. They fade back, let the enemy get within range, and then reenact the arrows scene from American Gods.

This time, Nordland joined in on that. As mentioned in the update, they skirmished in force with superior Eonir cavalry, attacked from afar and retreated consistently, and let the Druchii overextend out of rage and indignation.

Then the Ostermark contingent was unleashed, having been concealed by the Eonir in the Forest, and smashed into their sides.

Deception, division of enemy forces, swallowing up of bands of corsairs and shades that separated from the main groups, etc.

Then, once the Druchii had regrouped into a solid grouping once more to prevent losses to such tactics of piecemeal tearing, the army of Nordland responded in kind, forcing the Druchii into a proper knock down drag out fight.

Good Tactics, pulled off successfully, bore out. It wasn't a thing of absolutely crushing successes, just a number of relatively successful ones that built up maluses for the enemy at a good rate.

How is Mena doing anyway? I didn't see her in the omake.

Currently listlessly staring out a window with blank eyes in a proper lady's dress, her wargear gathering dust in a chest thrown into a basement inland, her body thinned from lack of appetite and resulting lack of nutrition.

Yeah! There it is! Thank you!
