Whew, this was a relief and happy news. I was waiting for some kind of dramatic back-and-forth shifting in the tide of battle -- as it feels happens a lot, as that's just how the situation and dice and character toughness and buffs and circumstances turn out -- but it looks like it was just a straight and simple victory for Nordland.
Now this means that Stephan will be well-positioned to blunt the Beast-tide and/or come to our aid against the Black Arks. Or to send the Imperial Navy to us; possibly they'll get lucky and arrive at the same time as the Asur do, heh heh. Let's hope that if he does send reinforcements to us, it doesn't deprive him of
too many troops; as, again, there's that whole Beast-tide thing to think about. Though unfortunately we don't know about it in-character so...
That darn Beast-tide has been full "Alfred Hitchcock's 15 minutes of suspense" all this while. Which is good! It makes us care, makes us worry, makes us go "But will we be in the right place at the right time to take the attack when it finally comes? What if X thing we do now, results in us zigging when we should have zagged?" every time we do anything military-wise. Makes for a good and dramatic story and makes it very memorable for the questers as a whole. But also kind of nervous because of that, haha.
And then the aftermath afterwards of course. Even after the Great War Against Chaos, there were many cults and Chaos Warriors and plots set up and remaining afterwards. And even after Gruber, there was that lone Plaguebearer that tried to infect bricks to mess up a rebuilding attempt found out later. But there was tons of rebuilding too. And glory and rewards and commendations for those involved.
Here and now, there're plenty of balls in the air for multiple factions, that look and feel like they can land heads or tails in how it goes; Aurelion and the High Elves at the Arcane Fulcrum, the Eonir and Asrai (because I half-feel that the Asrai will get involved when Morghur reveals himself in the Beast-tide), the Asur having chased off the Druchii from the isle and now pursuing their very Black Arks -- while the young Eldyra takes the fight to the Druchii in Ostland! -- and Kislev having its own troubles. The Empire and the Karaz Ankor having a battle against Greenskins to rival Black Fire Pass in momentousness, it feels like. The Greenskins themselves also feel like they might hold a surprise or two; the Forest Goblins were ousted by Malagor's efforts, so maybe the Goblins will sweep in to try to destroy the Beastmen for that? And the Skaven are around too. Their Cultists have tried stuff, but... who knows what was up with that. IIRC Torroar said that some of the Skaven movements and mountain tunnel collapses and stuff a few years ago, was due to the Skaven fucking up some kind of "get/make more food" project, and the aggression and Skaven activity splashing onto other places, was a result of that. So who knows what the Skaven have been up to since then, and whether they've recovered and grown even stronger since then, or whether they're teetering in trouble still, or whether Clan Pestilens launched another civil war (I forget if they're due to start one in the 2400s, or if they started one long ago and it's just been running till the 2500s in the canon timeline?). And the Druchii of course. They've taken a number of licks recently, a number of gambits of their's failing... but
whose factions failed those? Was it Malekith-aligned-ish sub-factions that got their shit punched in? Or were most of these attempts, attempts by independent and ambitious Lords and Heroes to seek glory or territory outside of Malekith's domain? And thus, our achieving victories over them, meant that while we weakened the Dark Elves as a whole, we also helped prune Malekith's competitors or trouble-starters?
And those are just the things we have seen enough of on-screen -- combined with canon knowledge -- to be able to speculate about. What's going on in Tilea and Estalia, that might surprise the Old World? What the hell is up with the Necromancy attacks in Araby and... I forget where the latest huge undead army attack was, I think somewhere in the Badlands or the Dark Lands or something, but...? When a lot of the Empire's vampires or necromancers fled for the Vampire Coast (though not nearly all of them, presumably some fled to Neferata, or the mountains, or elsewhere; also IIRC torroar mentioned somebody trying to raise a bunch of the dead in the Badlands because of all the dead Orcs and Skaven, and getting quashed, back when he was running Gen NPCs) and increased Harkon's numbers, what might come of that? Where is the Marienburg pirate Otto sailing to? What will happen in Norsca? Are the Chaos Dwarves temporarily played out in resources/focus/time in trying to act against the Karaz Ankor for now (I've been wondering whether the Ghazh Kull Mag Uruk Thraka guys were a Chaos Dwarf plot, or a Black Orc escaping from the Chaos Dwarfs, or Chaos Dwarfs going "Fuck it -- he escaped, but, fine, at least he's going in the direction of the Karaz Ankor anyway! Good enough." and washing their hands of the attempt) or are they getting ready or did they get busy with something else? Are there any major Chaos plots going on, for the human side rather than the Beastmen side I mean? In the Old World rather than in Norsca I mean. What's up with the tide of Ogres hitting Karak Kadrin? Is that a butterfly effect of us hiring, using up, and taking away Hak and Pak from, the Bouldersmash (or Boulder-something-name I forget) clan during Karak Ungor? Or is it due to Chaos Dwarf machinations, or Neferata, or something else? Or just a natural Ogre migration being ousted from their lands by Darklands stuff, and just happening to hit the Dwarfs at a spectacularly bad time for us?
Are the Twins and Elspeth going to make it back to the Empire in time for the big showdown, or later, or are they going to wander into the undead and necromancy stuff we only heard in the rumor mill about, and there's a big adventure-sized adventure there? Is Morai-Wen lost like Kadon, going by a dragon-like name rather than Morai-Wen? Or will she return? Or will it depend on how the Beast-tide goes; the Asrai appearing again, Morai-Wen's sister being on the same battlefield as Morai-Wen, and rolls and drama determining whether Morai-Wen manages to snap out of it or not, or whether it's some kind of pyrrhic or bittersweet victory? Or horrible loss, if Malagor -- or Morghur -- manages to create a new lineage of Chaos Dragons, turning Morai-Wen into a new Galrauch. Because
that could be a thing that Malagor is up to; trying to rouse or create or warp Dragons. ... Heck, I was recently thinking of Gotrek and Felix, and... the Goldenrod and Blackstaff guys are actually some centuries old aren't they? They might actually be alive at this time, huh. They tried to corrupt and transform a Dragon in the Dragonslayer books. I was thinking of Gotrek and Felix recently, so that's why I mused on the possibility of Malagor going for some of Galrauch's descendants, or Galrauch himself, or trying to warp new dragons, or whatnot. Or, heck, maybe he'll go for Skaladrak Incarnadine out of a sense of hubris; he succeeded with Morghur, why not go even higher?
