The absolute best case scenario is that (once again, provided we actually win as devastatingly as possible) this starts chain of weaknesses that the Asur can pressure hard enough to allow Finubar to do what Tethlis didn't.
If the Druchii legit lose 5 Black Arks within a decade on top of the other losses theyd have eaten this would be a monumental fucking disaster for them.

I'd say that is the absolute best case scenario

A belief that the humans and the colonists can provide significant resistance against a force capable of crippling a small nation.

The willingness to risk his life, and more importantly, his work against a potential counterattack, as well as possibly interrupting current research to do so.

A willingness to confront two Black Arcs worth if Elven Magics, which combined should be able to stomp both aforementioned humans and colonists without much effort.

Possibly other factors.
Your research doesn't mean shit though if the black arcs manage to deposit a high sorceress and her coven onto your doorstep though, because at that point they'll start breaking down your doors to flay you alive for all your secrets.

Like, this course of action only makes sense if you assume both that Ostland and it's allies are so overmatched that there's no point in fighting AND that whatever defenses you've cooked up will be able to handle extensive druchii scrutiny, because while it's possible that the druchii don't know about them and you can simply hide away, it's unlikely.

Now, these kinds of assumptions are totally on the table for high elves, but that change the fact that just up and bailing on us is still shortsighted and kind of a dick move.

Honestly, the asur prioritizing the Arcane fulcrum and not assisting us makes sense. It is their job after all.

It would be like asking the dawi defending the Bugman brewery to sally forth. Not one of them would do it wilingly since their task is to defend the brewery first and foremost.

I really truly doubt the Asur are going to catch and destroy the 2 Arks sent to rescue the Nagarythe detachment. They were driven off with damage, but they sound like they made it to open seas.

But yeah, if we destroy the ones at Salkalten and the Asur catch the couple they are chasing, its going to be the worst defeat the Druchii have suffered to their expeditionary fleets in millennia.

The guy chasing them is apparently a certified hardass and its not like Druuchi are the only unnaturally fast sailors.

yeah , each one lost is irreplaceable plus a permanent reduction to the force projection powers of the dark elves , if they loses enough of them they might get downgraded from a world wide threat to major regional one as they loss their ability to project power further than the New World , also 5 Black arks where did that figure come from , they lost one against the Everqueen's personal fleet and there are another two they might loses attacking us right now but the other two you brought up don't ring a bell

o one of the fastest things on the ocean. Nothing a black ark cannot outrun can outfight a black ark. They are EXTREMELY hard to pin down.
The two Arks that Sea Lord Asilin is chasing.
The problem is that the black arks are the fastest ships in the sea. He's chasing them. This is a losing strategy. The only time anyone manages to actually do anything about a black arks is when they can catch it pinned down doing something. Two in open water? They can simply sail away faster than he can hope to chase them.

Magnus already has Bright Wizards. We on the other hand could copy/patent fireworks.
Turn its application into something we can use to further show our dominance vs Nuln.
Doubly so when the twins come home and tell us of Cathay.

Flashbangs, earmuffs, and shotgun doctrine.
We've seem how effective grape shot and blastguns are vs fleshy targets in tight spaces.
We've seen how well fireworks, explosions and the combination can be used to overwhelm senses.
Now all we need is to put it all together turn it into a nice portable package for the detriment of our foes.
Urban deployment, Street sweeping and trench warfare will never be the same.

Was talking about our Magnus, not Magnus the Pious.
Another good thing about fireworks research other than signal corps, would be... explosive ammunition.

Nah, man. Most likely scenario is that the Black Arks escape but very damaged. T'was already stated in an update before that to destroy a Black Ark would require destroying magical hardpoints in the inside which would then cause a massive magical explosion when those hardpoints get destroyed.

We can't really destroy them, just fend them off till they decide the venture isnt worth it anymore. IIRC, only one ship in the Asur navy can deal with them and Sadrina already stated why any cant be spared for Ostland.

I don't remember that. Do you happen to remember where that's mentioned?

The Eternity Stair research compound defence force isn't helping for the same reason the Brewery isn't, and if you want to accuse them of cowardice you have to level the exact same accusation against Bugman.

They are not sworn to defend Ostland, they are sworn to defend this specific point of interest within Ostland. The Druchii aren't here for them, and sending forces to Salkalten risks revealing their existence to the Druchii, which would 100% draw Malekith's attention to Ostland. By turtling in place and concealing themselves they are preserving the incredibly valuable asset they're guarding that would also be incredibly dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands, and there are a lot more "wrong hands" out there than just the Druchii that could move in if they compromised it's defences.

And the kicker? We know OOC is that they are absolutely 100% correct, because the Beasttide is still yet to come. Now imagine Malagor with an Arcane Fulcrum.

Especially when paired with how easily they'd be found if the Druchii claimed the coast and decided to go in land.
No. If the risk of discovery was so unacceptable, they'd have fought anyway because the alternative would be them trapped in their little hole unable to continue experimenting out of fear of the enemy finding aforementioned hole.
They are under so many concealment spells that the Arcane Fulcrum literally disappeared from Natasha's Windsight, and she had scouts walking through the exact location of the research compound and found that it had simply disappeared.

And the Druchii are not here to conquer Ostland, they are here to punish us for what happened at Albion. Even in the worst case scenario they'll eventually fuck off, or be driven back when Magnus returns from Karaz-A-Karak, or at most they send a message to Ulthuan to come help them out, there's two Blark Arks isolated and vulnerable staying in one place for extended periods of time. They can afford to wait.

They are constantly talked about as being shockingly fast, even in the last chapter. They are pulled by merdragons and other enslaved sea creatures to sail contrary to wind and wave.
Well yes, but all elven vessels are shockingly fast. If you think Dark Arks are faster than Dragonships, then imma need a quote, because i really can't recall seeing it myself.

Like, Dark arks are primarily fast as fuck because they run on boatloads of magic and probably those monsters, and sure, thats an advantage that our ships lack, but Asur certainly do not.

He's been in the quest before, actually.

He also featured heavily in the Battle of the Bone Gate. I'm pretty sure I gave his name somewhere. Can't find it ATM, as I am just on my phone right now. But he's really, really big. In the Battle of the Bone Gate he got a big spear shoved into him and punctured by what seemed like 100 arrows, and largely just went 'ow' and then kept fighting.

For the record, he's the largest Great Stag in the Empire. There are others, like the Taal-blessed one that acknowledged Magnus the Pious leading up to the GWAC, but this one is bigger.

Specifically, look at this moose:

View: https://youtu.be/HNfetnUwOUo

Naraiel's Great Stag is about half again as tall, and four times as muscled/thick with sheer fur and mass. When I said she can ride stop him by just standing outright, I meant it was almost a mobile platform rather than a comparatively skinny warhorses back.

And, you know. Being shaped like a Great Stag instead of a moose. Someone posted a Total War Warhammer pic which covers his general shape and what not, only you gotta scale it up as mentioned.

Oh I remembered him, I was just using Thranduil's stag as an image, didn't have a frame of reference for the size. That's…huge.

I provided words contrary to that statement. What we're seeing is Nordland performing the clean-up and that clean-up is occuring before the Salkalten event of "Spikes, Horns, and Stone 2" or right during the Salkalten event of "Spikes, Horns, and Stone 2".
If that's WoG it's WoG I guess.

The whole timeline doesn't bear too much attention though. This is an era where, once you go beyond a couple of days, a ship at sea outpaces any overland travel bar a pony express and that's for ordinary ships - Black Arks are significantly faster and more reliable. So, how does someone meet Black Arks at sea close enough to the old world to deduce they're headed for the Empire and yet the Empire gets the news with most of a turn to prepare? Where did we get those extra months from? That priest must have arrived in Marienburg months before he started swimming. All praise Manaan for the greater miracle.

I don't know if you guys know this, but it's possible for something to go faster or slower sometimes.

Like how, you know, I can walk in a general easterly direction for several hours.

Or, you know, I could also technically absolutely sprint as fast as I possibly can while huffing meth and cocaine and injecting my heart directly with adrenaline needles.

They're called shockingly fast because they're giant fuck-off magic floating islands that are actually moving at a reasonable pace rather than inching forward slowly or, most realistically, not moving at all since islands shouldn't be boats. They aren't outpacing ships built for speed anytime soon. Probably the same speed as our Greatships or something similar. Also, no merdragons or anything, the Black Arks just move on their own magical power.

I'd mark them as faster than a wolfship.
If you were going to design an island that disobeyed the laws of water/wind resistance anyway without falling apart..... You'd design them to move really fast because fuck physics.

I think its worth it to note that the Druchii didn't actually plan and design the Black Arks. When Malekith failed at undoing the Vortex and was driven back, him and his allies used the last of their strength to break the land and take their citadels with them. They weren't designed, they were a last ditch escape plan that worked out really damn well for the Druchii in the long run

There is actually an interesting bit of physics where it is actually easier to get a big ship moving really fast than a medium ship. Basically the problem is bow waves. Ships produce a bow wave as they move through the water. As they go faster and faster the front of the ship is lifted up onto the bow wave. Normally this is imperceptible, but it happens regardless and lifting the entire front end of a ship up is hard, so it means you need to push harder and harder to go faster and faster. The extreme example of this is speedboats that have short lengths and powerful engines and just push themselves up to a 45 degree angle on their bow wave, barely touching the water. This allows them to go really fast, but is impractical for large ships. Large ships essentially have a speed limit that they cannot exceed because they cannot lift themselves up onto their bow wave.

But the bow wave of long ships needs to be pushed further back before the ship itself is lifted. This means the bigger a ship is the higher their speed limit is. This is why Aircraft carriers are the fastest ship various navies, and can outrun all it's escort ships if it ever opens up the throttle.

Can Melekith make more Black Arks? He did make them once but I am not sure if he can do it again?

Nope, they got made thousands of years ago in the sundering of Nagarythe, when there was an absolute shit ton of magic flying around that can't be replicated in the modern day.
