Good morning everyone :D

What is this mad-cap scheme I'm meant to be considering?
We've designs to send Enterprise, another Explorer Corps ship, and possibly some others in a taskforce headed by Commodore ka'Sharren to accompany the Kadeshi on their Great Journey and blow up anything that tries to kill them, if we can.

Or more plausibly, just have Enterprise do some patrolling and scouting around their intended path and make sure there aren't any nasty surprises waiting for them.

While I support possibly sending an Explorer Corps vessel with the Kadeshi, we cannot afford to send more than one ship.

And I am opposed to sending Nash, she isn't an Explorer Captain anymore and people need to accept that.

Miranda refits. Remember those? We ordered it, we got it, and the best time to slot them in is putting them in right after a Connie-B comes out. They fill the berths nicely until we can start making Reniassances in those berths, while at the same time letting us save our resources for Renaissances and to start the Ambassador prototype.

So agreed, we have no reason to ask for a Constellation refit this year... because we're going to have our hands full refitting Mirandas.

I was referencing your spreadsheet, and it was including Constellation-A refits just before and alongside the first Renaissance builds.

Here's what I came up with for fitting in another 2 Connie-Bs that delays the Constellation-A refits until a year after those first Renaissance builds start (with some changes to income):

That delayed Renaissance may not need to be delayed as the income is still pretty conservative, and selling a Constellation remains an option.

Constellations are too ugly ever to have Presence 3. :)

Hey now, if you squint in just the right way, they look reasonable...in a way...

More seriously, looks aren't all there is to presence. There are dedicated parts that increase presence that have little do with looks. In fact, I don't think there even is a part that's related to looks that increase presence.

After merging votes, it's pretty unanimous.

I'm all for sending the Enterprise, a few CentaurAs, and Nash along for this trip. Even if it's one last hurrah for her, I'd love to see it happen.

Edit: For that matter, maybe we should invite the Romulans along for the trip!

Oooh, lucky the vote wasn't closed.

ka'Sharren needs a couple of years of shore assignments to actually learn how to be a responsible adult admiral. So no.

Also, take a look at the front page and tell me where you would like to take "a few Centaur-As" from. The anti-Orion effort doesn't really need ships, right?

I have an idea of what we could do if the Romulens do in fact not only feel bad about the Kedeshi situation but also sympathies with them. We approach them about the possibility of forming joint escort fleet with them for the Kedeshi exodus.

Also what vote are people talking about?

I tend to think that the Romulans are more looking at the Kadeshi and wondering if they would make good slaves.

These are not people who tend to "feel bad" about the suffering of other species.

While I love the idea of a few Starfleet cowboys riding herd on the Great Kadeshi Migration (totally not racist) but we don't know where they're going. Somewhere in our space? Just past our borders? Other side of the galaxy?

Once we know then we can decide if we want to help. That said, they may not want us with them. We have kind of ignored them for years.

I feel a grave disturbance in the fun...

As though a million cool omake ideas cried out as one, and were yelled at for being an unrealistic depiction of Nash's career and/or the Romulans.

As was pointed out before, they've reason to care. Rommies aren't completely inhuman in any case, but here specifically there is a species whose current situation closely parallels early Romulan history, and more importantly it's all Romulus' fault in a way that has well and truly been shown to hurt their sense of honor. They might not help, but I suspect they will, and if they were to harm the Kadeshi I would for one cry foul at the poor characterization.

They are, in fact, not human :V
Well, you know what I mean :p

But seriously, they may be ruthless and pragmatic often, but they're emotional people, indeed they exist entirely because their ancestors refused to surgically remove their sense of fun and good and joy. I mean really, enslaving the last survivors of a catastrophe they blame themselves for. Really.

The Romulans are honestly more complex than generic Xenophobic bastards. Not much more sometimes. Yes.

And honestly. Total bastardry is not entirely out of the question. But. But they don't just pull dick moves because reasons. They pretty much always have reasons behind why they do things and they like to at least pretend to be superior and better than anyone else. I doubt they'll interfere with the Kadeshi

And, to be serious, I do support some sort of positive action towards the Kadeshi and hopefully high adventure to prevent the quest narrative becoming an endless grimness of "Four More Peacekeepers died in Orion Space today", "The recent Klingon offensive has stalled with casualties in the tens of thousands on both sides in the recent battle, marking the latest phase of the war", "Talks between the Federation and the Sydraxian-Yrillian alliance have broken down", and "In other news the Cardassian Union is in their third month of providing troops to assist the new Bajoran administration" that is threatening to happen on our current course.

Of course, this is mostly idle speculation until we learn more details.

Considering how over our defense target Tellar Sector is, I think we can spare some ships rather easily, thank you. Q2 will have another +5 built, a CentaurA finished refitting recently, and another Starbase in Q4. +13 total, so yes, we are covered, even if Rigel is a D9.

Edit: Q2 for the refit finish, not Q1, but that should be the upcoming post.
