Nah. Not the whole Galaxy.

The Borg can probably take it. But everyone else is screwed.

I wouldn't be so certain actually. The Borg are infectious in the same way and use nanites to do so but the beast are pretty much at exactly the same level even if they use bionanites to do so. More worryingly if these are even remotely close to a 1-1 expy the beast are capable of remote conversion of targets.

Hardly, it's going to reinforce the Federation's Principles.
I dunno, if the Biophage manages to make it to a highly inhabited planet, and Starfleet has to purgethe infected areas to save the rest and millions and millions of people die, there's going to be arguments and blame.

Even if what we are doing is the correct thing, when a horrible tragedy strikes, people tend to want something different done. Obviously if what we were already doing was the correct, smart thing, this problem wouldn't have happened in the first place! /s

I hope it doesn't go the way i fear it can. I want Starfleet to remain peaceful, exploration focused.

I suspect that our new Medical Research Team will be Skill 1. Particularly since exp exists.

I'd consider that somewhat unlikely since McCoy was just promoted to the head of the Starfleet Medical Research Division last turn, so he's likely to be in charge of whatever medical team we purchase this turn. Plus, this is something of an emergency so there's impetus to get the best men on the job as can be found.

Well, that answers the question of how it's spreading...it must be hitting Romulan colonies as well, and gotten past their own quarantine measures. If it's infested a cloaked ship it could be using that as a hidden base.

It's the fucking Beast. Holy shit. Warn EVERYONE. EVERYONE. Offer full intelligence sharing with everyone. Romulans included.

Yup. Any bets on how long before some moronic Klingon house tries to "restore their honour" by making use of the eldritch nano plague?

Indeed. Better to get word to them immediately about all the details so nobody gets the wrong idea and everyone starts preparing. A Beast-level infestation is nothing to joke about.

Actually the Klingons might be helpful in this regard depending on when the Great Tribble Hunt occurred. They DID send one interstellar biosphere menace to extinction so hard they could only be saved by time travel. Perhaps they still have notes we could use on containment. Might just be variants on our present photon torpedo-based quarantine measures, but couldn't hurt to ask.

The good news is it's not displaying any real technical knowledge of its own so far. We have no indication it can employ warp travel without first infesting a warp capable ship, it's a parasite more than anything else. So even if it gets to, for example, a pre-warp civilization and turns the planet into biological hell, we can still Challorn Protocol it from orbit. Strict quarantine measures should be able to keep it down and all ships should be prepared to sacrifice themselves to avoid letting it infest an actual warship.

Also good news: it sprang up in the single most militarized part of the galaxy. All passage through and around the Neutral Zone is tightly controlled and between us and the Romulans we should be able to stop it from escaping. Imagine if this thing had come in somewhere inside Federation space?

Ok. Maximum anti-cloak tech. Kill on sight orders for anything matching the damn thing's signature. And we need our own version of the Naar Directive from Homeworld.

Do you really

*really*

want to start a war that pulls in every major power in the Beta Quadrant?

Because that sort of anti-diplomatic hyper-overreaction is how you start wars that pull in every major power in the Beta Quadrant.

2303.Q2 - The Snakepit
2303.Q2

The Council is heated. Tellar Prime's ambassadors and Councillors want heads. They storm about demanding the tide bow before them. Their colony should have been saved. Starfleet isn't protecting us, they take the expedient way. Some factions even demand to know why we haven't tried to make peace, tried to communicate with this new entry to the galactic scene.

You do not blame them, as the full story of the Dunwich IV colony's horror has not yet been told. The way that the flesh of colonists sloughed from their bones, the way it formed thick ropes and curls of biomechanical circuitry built by obscene craft to service the entity. The way the twisted intellect on the ground waited, biding its time. So you told them. You tell them about the twenty thousand colonists who perished, and the hundreds who died before at Ulith III and Korlonia II. You tell them of the suspected link to the bombing of the Cheron. You tell them of the terrible sight of the hail sent by the creature. And you tell them of its defiant warning. You tell them of the horrendous fate of the Tregh'bak Klingon colony, only discovered in time to prevent its spread because of the warning sent by the Federation.

And haven't you set the cat among the pigeons now. The whole chamber is abuzz as you work your way methodically and matter of fact through the litany of flesh. It is not your intention, but somehow your matter of fact delivery does more to strike fear in the Council than any demagoguery could.

"Admiral, what is Starfleet's assessment of the danger posed by this organism to the Federation?" asks the President of the Council.

"Very highly," you reply. "If addressed promptly and effectively, we may be able to make it a footnote in history. If we are clumsy, or unwary, then this could become a threat greater than the Romulans themselves."

"Do you even know if this organism still exists?" asks another Councillor. "We shouldn't move the vast resources of the Federation without a clear idea of how and why."

"I agree, Councillor," you allow begrudgingly. "There is a lot of research that we must now carry out."

"So what is it that you are calling this creature?" asks the Councillor.

"It is the Ulith III Biophage," you answer.

"Hm. A very dry name for such a beastly creature."

"Starfleet is not in the business of promoting fear for the sake of fear or influence," you reply. "We look to the stars as they are, never blinking. Even when the stars look back at us."

COnsidering the presence of the Biophage I assume that we will lose more people in the future and so more academy is always usefull especially as a longterm concern.
The mines will pay for themself and our Shipbuilding is now workable with the new improvements so that I am not seeing the urgend need as we can maximise the current shipyards without a great loss that would require another one.
