OMG.

We just wiped out one of their battlecruisers and beat down a Karnak while only taking 2 points of shield damage. *whistles* Oh to be a fly on the wall for that debriefing.

Also, @OneirosTheWriter, can we choose to develop cloaking tech? I mean, we've had multiple examples to work with (the Suliban Cloak front ENT, the Improved Romulan Cloak from TOS) so we wouldn't be starting from scratch.

Developing cloaking devices would be a violation of the Treaty of Algeron with the Romulans, and grounds for an instant resumption of hostilities.

Yea we did, now let us see if our captured vessels will provide us in terms of research, and pp. Actually, I wonder if we could donate some of our resources that we aren't using to member worlds in exchange for pp.

Repaired? That implies that we allow them to recover their vessel. They commited a hostile action against our forces. I see no reason for us not to keep them.

There are strong indications that Cardassia is behind us techwise in most if not all areas.

A while ago @lbmaian mentioned adding a grid to the map, and I have been thinking about it on and off and finally tried it out. I'm not sure it would help all that much with showing things in 3d if that becomes necessary, but it would probably make it easier for @OneirosTheWriter to decribe distances when choosing to do so. The lines would be about 10 lightyears appart. What do you think?

Hmm. Some thoughts on what could be done with time bullshittery:

1. Phasor/Shield Frequencies
2. Improbably precise evasive techniques.
3. Asteroid hostility

And some other thoughts:
1. From a cynical point of view, there's actually a pretty good reason to allow more races into the Federation - By diluting power, it reduces the odds of any single species achieving dominion or conducting a coup against the others.
Developing cloaking devices would be a violation of the Treaty of Algeron with the Romulans, and grounds for an instant resumption of hostilities.
Hasn't been signed yet, apparently!

Isn't that treaty 3 years in the "future"?

We could also go for less extreme approaches - emissions reduction rather than complete cloaking - not as scary to the council but could increase the effectiveness of our ships nonetheless.

You know, if neither of them had earned it yet, after this year Nash Ka'Sharren and Enterprise-B have both earned themselves a spot in the same sentence and breath as Kirk and the Ent-nil.

There is such thing as Radar Cross-section, which is visibility to radar, for aircraft. Surely there would be such thing as a Sensor Cross-section for starships? By reducing that, stealth could be achieved.

Lorgot class battlecruisers are apparently not as bad as we feared. Combat is slightly higher than our Excelsiors, but shields are neither better nor worse, and their Hull rating is somehow even lower than a Jaldun's. They probably skimped on armor and superstructure to accommodate all those guns, even in its large frame. Kind of a glass cannon ship.
Starfleet Intelligence has whipped up an artist's concept based on sensor logs:

Seems legit.

A starship designed to have emissions that are effectively identical to background radiation in all respects would be effectively invisible to all sensors. Eyesight, even, if your background radiation includes 'visible spectrum', and extended to things like 'that minuscule asteroid behind the starship'.

Of course, achieving 'effectively identical to background radiation' is.. pretty much impossible, though getting close isn't out of the question. In fact, reaching close to it probably has advantages in throwing off targeting sensors and suchlike, akin to whatever that (apparently suicidal) camo technique that had you wear utterly outlandish outfits.

Holy shit, what a turn!

Betazed gets a double-event and that pushes it into membership. @OneirosTheWriter can you go ahead and tell us what the Betazed Defense requirement will be for purpose of us planning fleet movements?

The Enterprise turns out to be magic, and we get to see the stats for the Cardassian Heavy Cruiser... as well as destroy one. That loss is going to hurt them a hell of a lot. They can't have many of those things, and it's going to take a lot of time, resources, and crew to replace.

Anything that bypasses shields - even slightly - is going to be doubly effective against a Lorgot. Any research that increases our burnthrough chance should be prioritized. If there happens to be some tech-of-the-week or spacial phenomenon at hand that neutralizes shields, using it in a battle that includes Lorgots will probably tip the balance in our favor.

So perhaps a Weapons research team? There are things under the Phasers tech tree that can improve odds of Shield burn-through.

We could also go for less extreme approaches - emissions reduction rather than complete cloaking - not as scary to the council but could increase the effectiveness of our ships nonetheless.

Cloaking tech isn't that scary, there are actually pretty sound reasons to get into the field:

For one it makes it much harder for belligerent powers to get a read on the Federations total ship strength, that uncertainty means that provoking or pressuring the Federation is now much riskier, which makes them more amendable to listening to our diplomats.
For another, it makes it much harder for powers like Cardassia to engage in covert operation since now they have to worry about cloaked ships tailing their vessels through the border zone or even having cloaked vessels encroach into the Cardasssian interior to gather SIGINT.
Thirdly - MAN THINK OF THE SCIENCE! We're talking about using precisely calibrated subspace fields to refract, reflect and bend broad parts of the electromagnetic spectrum into a pretzel. The improvements we could make to our sensor technology! The sheer cool factor of developing the technology!

Mostly, cloaking tech raises the cost of doing business with respect to messing around with the Federation. Now peer powers who don't like us have to spend resources on vast tachyon detection nets and sensor technology - resources they can no longer use for other things like building ships or financing covert ops against us.

Achieving sensor stealth is stealthy enough, I think.

Does one find ships by looking out the window?

A distress call has been received from the nascent mining colony at Beta Corridan. Apparently a large asteroid is heading their way and they need assistance. Personally, I'm surprised both that this asteroid was missed and that they can't deal with it fairly easily themselves.

[snip]

That's not an asteroid.

That's nearly a damned dwarf planet.
So, are there any sort of trophies in the Federation for things like "mastery of understatement"? Because whoever sent that distress signal quite obviously deserves one.
