I think a centaur refit, outpost construction, cardassians border zone would be good that leaves 61 left, so either the academy expansion with 3 diplo pushes or maybe try for the budget increase. Or retire one of the old guard

Diplomatic pushes will increase our academy intake. It's better to have six diplomatic pushes, rather than three + academy expansion tbh. Also I'm still disagreed on starting the refit right now.

We need defense though to garrison new members as we add them and there is a two year lag on when we take the refit project and when we can start refitting our ships and building new ones to the refit spec. So really think we need to do that this turn. Also a new border zone will have defense requirements as well

I don't care if no one else votes for this plan That Constitution class light cruiser is great, and I'd happily build ten over the next fifteen years. It's a perfect Renaissance stopgap.

@OneirosTheWriter I think you should seriously consider putting a hard cap on the number of times we can take the Diplomatic push action. Just as we only have so many berths to build ships, the Federation only has so many Diplomats and so much focus to put on potential members. At some point it should really be a matter of resources, not just political will. And besides, typically in a game if players are piling on the same action so many times, it's a sign something's gone wrong in the mechanics.

Keep in mind new members come with their own fleets which can and will be used for Garrison purposes as those fleets will likely be integrated with starfleet command. Also with that in mind we're very likely to hit the defence request just via integrating the Amarki fleet.

I'm open to paths that don't involve refitting any of our ships. However, I do think it is important to push defense up quickly. Defense doesn't just please the politicos, it also defends the Federation.

And the Cardassians seem to have capable ships.

But the Amarki will be keeping their fleet. Just like the Vulcans have their own fleet and the Andorians have their own fleet (and probably the Humans and the Tellarites do too).

Or the Amarki fleet will become something like the equivalent of the Andorian Guard, whose ships also don't count for our defence requirement. I'm pretty sure the ship we loaned from them disappeared from our pool (read: rejoined the Guard) as soon as the crisis was over.

I'm okay with this plan, but why the Orions and not the Caitians, who are closest to joining after the Amarki and Betazoids?

Member worlds will maintain their own forces. (FYI, haven't mentioned this because it hasn't been relevant yet, but United Earth and Andoria are going to be asking for permission to build an Excelsior in one of your yards within the next few years).

These serve passive protective roles within their own sectors, usually within the key systems, while Starfleet patrols further afield (though they base in the key systems). By Federation law, those ships have no permission to cross sector lines, or impinge on Starfleet's prerogatives. In particular, anything involving non-member worlds falls on Starfleet's plate (this is why the last Captain's log on a Vulcan colony world came up to Starfleet).

I think I'll throw a maximum or three or four concurrent pushes starting next turn. Seeing everyone get a diplomatic push did give me pause, lol.

Looking at our current br stockpile and income, I don't think we need the mining colonies right now.
