Our crews are moving around the clock, and we now have ships moving forward towards the front. The Courageous, Kumari, Pathfinder, Sojourner, and the Huascar. At the very moment that the Arcadian Empire loses two explorers and two cruisers, we return to the fray a quartet of explorers and a cruiser. Two Mirandas are also returning to the front, released from Kardan Amash Yards at Welleck IV. The Rigellians do good work, and I'm certain we'll have no problems there.

The filing of formal certification is still a week or two away, but the demands of the day are seeing ships exit their berths as soon as able. None too soon with Sarek and Liberty looking to take on repairs.

Operational security now permits me to report on an upcoming operation, undertaken in conjunction with the Licori Border Zone forces. Our Special Projects Security and Irregular Operations offices are working together to remove the major stumbling block to taking the Gammon system: the Anoxa Superlaser, built into the Narravonn moon.

This is a dangerous operation, but I have complete confidence in the commanders on the scene. It consists of a multi-prong assault. Strike teams will be inserted via the blind-side of the moon, and fly in shuttles nape-of-the-earth fashion to approach the Anoxa site. Once in position, the elements will strike and detonate the facility. Simultaneously to the start of that assault, runabouts will deliver strike teams to the orbital stations that protect the Anoxa site to provide an escape vector to our intelligence forces.

Across the refitted hauler Hummingbird, orderly lines of slate-grey clad sentients file into waiting shuttlecraft and runabouts. Armed with more than phasers, explosives, and heavy weapons, they are armed with training, courage, and belief. Belief in the Federation, in Starfleet, in their cause and their mission.

There is a debate within the Licori command staff as to whether the assault on Gammon should be launched only after word of the successful destruction of the Anoxa superlaser is received, or if the assault should be timed to arrive simultaneously.

If a simultaneous attack occurs, the odds of Starfleet Intelligence making a clean getaway vastly increase, and the odds that the Kortennon can make repairs are non-existent. However, if the attack fails, or falls behind, the incoming force will almost certainly take at least some losses from the Anoxa. Alternatively, a delayed launch means that other elements of the Kortennon defences will be on maximum guard, there is a chance the laser could be set for at least a shot or two, and it will be more difficult for the operatives to escape.

The update says they found his irradiated remains in his stateroom. For some reason I suspect he was sitting down when a torpedo impacted a few decks below and he got fuckin' wrecked by gamma radiation + however that interacts with Trek building materials.
 
I have a bad feeling about what happens if we attack while our commandos are trying to take out the Anoxa. I'd rather lose commandos than explorers.

I also like the idea that when they say 'superlaser' they just mean a really big laser. Like, it's the most boringly ordinary, non-exotic beam weapon in all of Star Trek, with almost zero technobabble in the design. It's just really big.

Because the Korannon Kortennon hats are "gratuitous evil" and "more heavy industry than you."

Nah, it's cool. It just means I have to invent a different reason for the Tartresis guy (played by Patrick Stewart in green facepaint!) to do something heroic and ballsy that he was going to do anyway.

Hm, I'm thinking simultaneously. I don't think being tentative about this operation is a good idea, and Linderly's people don't deserve to get abandoned.

I don't know if our Explorers can repel firepower of that magnitude, but I suspect that at least the EC ships will be able to science their way out of an instant kill. They did before.

As to our assets, I think we could use another external diplomacy team to inform the acceptable houses of our intentions regarding their succession dispute and remind them that we'll be ready for a conditional surrender when they're done.
 
By the way, @OneirosTheWriter, can you double-check the order of battle for the Federation forces?

For instance, we know for a fact Chekov is no longer captain of the Endurance (in TF3). And some of the ships listed in TF1 and TF2 were destroyed or put out of action in the Ixaria campaign- they should probably be taken off the roster, or given strikethroughs, so that we can retain an accurate picture of those task forces' real strength.

And I'm not sure how the ships now being assigned to Eaton's fleet slot into the order of battle. For example, which force is getting Courageous? Of the various ships coming out of drydock, which if any of them will be present with TF3 for the attack on Gammon?

EDIT:

When the smoke clears from Gammon I may try to do a 'where are they now' list of all Federation ships lost or damaged in the battles to help backstop you. Especially since it's at least possible to repair ships that are merely "disabled," provided we retain control of the battlefield.

Thuir and the Ked Paddah tried to take Ixaria, the main system of House Ixara. They beat the snot out of the defenses, but the cumulative effect of being dragged face-first through several layers of minefields and MAD SCIENCE were badly wearing them down. Especially the Ked Paddah who lost a lot of ships to random mine explosions.

Then a large and badass Imperial reinforcement fleet very much like the one I'd been expecting rolled out to crush what was left of our plucky little Ixaria-fighting dudes.

Then Nash jumped the reinforcement fleet and beat the snot out of it, destroying both of the Licori battleships (they had two to begin with) plus two cruisers and some other small fry. Because Nash does stuff like that.

Then to our considerable surprise, it turned out that the Imperial fleet which had gone out to crush Thuir and his new red friends, and which Nash had just utterly crushed, was in fact literally the imperial fleet. As in, the Emperor was actually on board one of the battleships, in person. Specifically, he was on the battleship that got extra-toasty towards the end of the fight.

So now the Licori have no battleships, not a lot of cruisers left either, have lost one of their major star systems... oh, and the Emperor is dead with no obvious successor.

Also, T'Lorel is moving in to clear out another one of their major star systems, run by House Pedo Korannon Kortennon, the evil guys who we suspect are behind the star-exploding stuff. She has a whole mess of ships to do it with, I'm not even sure exactly how many because a bunch of new ships are coming into the war zone right around now. The only tricky part is dealing with House Pedo's giant moon laser, which we have a plucky band of Starfleet Intelligence commandos ready to do. Hopefully this part will go more like the raid at the end of Return of the Jedi and less like the raid at the end of Rogue One.

I prefer attacking on both fronts, so as to force the Licori to split their forces. One attack would also serve as a distraction for the other. The Licori would have to respond to both forces, rather than just one after another.

Onos IV is a fairly pointless recon location. Place them on Kappa Tau, and in TF6 temporarily until Kappa Tau is finished.

e: this placement would also allow maximum interesting cultural experiences for any academy characters
