The Shanghai was a Centaur in a Captain's Log update that predates this emergency by a looooong way, but was accidentally assigned a Miranda's registry number and called a Miranda in the emergency.

There's been a few shenanigans with the UESPA ships + names. The exact tally of ships has remained the same but, for example, I accidentally named three Constellations when UESPA only has two Constellations total.
Largely because it precedes getting more structured on the Member World fleets.
Task Force Commander's Log, Task Force 1, Commodore Michel Thuir
The battle for the Ixaria system has been a very hard grind. Our science teams have been in a constant battle with the mad science of the Mentats. Many good spacers, particularly among our Ked Paddah allies, have paid the full price for any lapse. It takes a terrible toll on our crews. No less is the anxiety of traversing minefields. Captain Zaardmani and the Torbriel have been tremendous for getting us through as lightly as we have.
It goes against my grain to take these risks and this haste. But this window cannot remain open long. I would hate to take this system while it still has a fleet to defend it, and reinforcements may arrive in system at any moment. We must push. We do what we can to protect our crews and our ships, but every commander must know that there comes a moment where you must order the death of the thing you love most. They teach us the theory of it in the Academy, but only a few officers are ill-fated enough to see the practice of it on this scale.

Transporter Room 4, USS Excelsior
"Flag officer on deck!" announces a senior petty officer as the dazzling motes of the transporter drift away.
The skipper of the Excelsior steps forward out of his heads of department. "Commodore Thuir, welcome aboard."
"Glad to be aboard, Captain Yamada," replies Thuir as he steps down off the pad. "You know, no matter what they say, every Excelsior is unique in its own way. Always a pleasure to visit another."
"Shame it couldn't be under more peaceful circumstances, Captain," replies Yamada.
"These are the times we live in, Captain," replies Thuir. "Even in the post-Khitomer optomism, when you commit to exploration, history never ends."
-
Battle Bridge, USS Excelsior
"Have all ships received Commander Straite's new routines for entering minefields?" asks the Commodore.
"Yes, Commodore," replies his operations staff officer, a promising Andorian Lieutenant. "The Ked Paddah are amazed at what we were able to determine from their sensor records. They have a lot of good procedures in place already though - they've just been suffering bad luck and some very talented mentats."
"Understood. Let's see if we can get through this minefield cleanly, and then we'll go from there."
-
Bridge, USS Enterprise
Nash ka'Sharren and Samhaya Mrr'shan, the Caitian captain, lean over the science officer's console, poring over the sensor read-outs.
"It's a big force," mutters Samhaya.
"Not too big," replies Nash airily.
"There's at least four major units, and we're still without the services of the Hood," reminds Samhaya.
"If this is the main Imperial fleet, it's a much larger force than they're expecting in Ixaria. But if we intercept them, we can deal a crippling blow."
Samhaya cocks an eyebrow "We could also lose this entire Task Force, if it is both Sandworms and two Jackrabbits making up the core of that fleet."
"Starfleet has many Task Forces, the Arcadians have this one, and we may not be able to collect it all in one place again without fighting under the torpedoes of the Morshadd Starbase," argues Nash. "Risk is just a part of our line of work. Today we can seal the fate of this war if we win, while if we lose we only slow the Federation."
"Our orders are to maintain the blocking position between Gammon and Ixaria," points out Samhaya.
Nash just laughs. "I can note that objection in my log if you like, Captain."
A grin crosses the Caitian's face. "Commodore, I'm simply playing devil's advocate. Let's go ruin the Emperor's week."

Starbase 12, Betazed Orbit
"Admiral Eaton, Admiral Eaton!" yells an excitable Ensign in the staff room, rushing through Starbase 12's brand-new command room. "Word from Task Force 2! They have engaged and defeated the Imperial reinforcements!"
Victoria Eaton and Rosalee McAdams look up from a set of documents being displayed on a plotting table and exchange a glance.
"Huh, well that makes things a little simpler," mutters Eaton.

The Ixarian system has been invested, and Ked Paddah forces are landing upon Ixaria Prime. The system is now contested, and further Ked Paddah fleet assets are moving forward to reinforce. Task Forces 1 and 2 are freed up to redeploy again.
Hm. I think I'm going to write an omake focusing on Enterprise, and the Pride. I think I have an idea of how they managed two frigate kills and a damage/HP ratio that is actually better than that of the Enterprise.
To be fair, Samhaya Mrrshan probably DOES have Medium or High Rule-Abiding if you look 'under the hood.' And one of her responsibilities during over ten years as one of Nash's junior officers was to be one of the... stricter, more rule-bound people who reminded her of things like this.
In other words, Sam's the reason Nash's pp/year cost is five instead of, oh... seven? Ten? Nothing could be more natural than for her to remind Nash that her orders are to do the boring, low-risk, responsible thing. Because even if Nash winds up going for the gold and saving the day anyway, someone has to be standing in the chariot behind her whispering "remember, Caesar, thou art a mortal zhen."

Also, I'm counting three incidents in which the Tartresis sent ships against us, but only one where the Bene did. It could be that they were supporting our opposition in more indirect ways as well, but until we get confirmation of that we have a clear verdict.
Sorry house Tartresis, but you know the rules. Empress Jerzai of the royal Bene family will be accepting your oath of fealty.
Well, I'm just planning to take this one battle. And not even all of it, just one scene for Nash from Battle Bridge and one scene for Sam on the main bridge when they start taking fire. Only one thing to worry about that could be a spoiler for the omake, so I'll PM you that, OK?
Okay, I'd say NOT a 'high,' probably a 'medium,' but even if she's a 'low,' she's a low who's adapted to the role of knowing and remembering the rules, and of passing them on to others, and of sticking to them unless there's a damn good reason.
She wouldn't have approached the Reliant with her shields down, in other words. And she would have reminded Kirk that they were supposed to have the shields up.

Among other things, I suspect that when Tartresis is told to send ships, they damn well send ships, and they don't stint on the quality of equipment and personnel either. I'm sure writing them that way. When House Bene is told to send ships, they hem and haw and try to talk you out of it or convince you to put their ships somewhere they're likely to be able to stay out of trouble.
It's like, if the Licori somehow won the war, should they put Vulcans in charge of the Federation? After all, the Vulcans were the most argumentative and dilatory about fighting the war in the first place, and then sent the fewest ships to help us fight it. They'd be counting a minimum number of incidents where they fought the Vulcans, and a maximum of incidents where they fought Earthlings, Tellarites, Rigellians, and so on.
So again, should the Vulcans be put in charge of the hypothetical Licori-defeated Federation? Maybe, but it's not that simple.
@OneirosTheWriter : assuming the war isn't already over, could we get an option similar to what the Gaeni do with this internal diplomacy team the next time one of ours needs to be reassigned?

Sector Commander's Log, Licori Border Zone, Rear Admiral Victoria Eaton
Chaos, absolute chaos. The Arcadian Emperor had sallied forth personally aboard the Indefatigible. His irradiated remains have been drawn from the state rooms of that battlecruiser. Neither our analysts, the Ked Paddah analysts, the Diplomatic Service analysts, or, for that matter, anyone else saw it coming. But the Arcadian Emperor is dead.
Long live the Emperor.
From what we are told, the successors have relatively weak claims to the throne after a the clearest contender perished during the opening weeks of the war with the Ked Paddah. This leaves the door open to a power struggle to rule the now reduced Arcadian Empire. The Ixarians are in no position to claim the throne in the midst of the chaos with the Ked Paddah taking that system in hand. This leaves the Kortennon, the Tartresis, and the Bene. Of these three, we already know that we may be able to work with the Tartresis and the Bene, but the Kortennon ... as much as we refrain from interfering with the internal affairs of other people, the rise of the Kortennon to rule the Empire is simply unacceptable.
I'm told the bloodbath in Ixaria has shocked the homefront and the Council, but I must urge, under no circumstances can we accept a ceasefire while the Kortennon still offer a meaningful chance at claiming the throne. We must push the assault on Gammon, and give the Kortennon more to think about than Imperial ambitions.

How about having them completely unable to grow a natural beard, but fake beards both permanent and temporary having become a fashion trend after the intense cultural exchange with other federation species.
So you have conservative Amarki glaring at anyone with facial hair, those who were young and excitable during the early days of contact and now have some ill-fitting permanent monster beard, those who add some style to their dress uniform with a fake moustache that drops from their face in the middle of unexpected combat etc.
