In a conventional conflict, the Arcadian Empire would get stomped by KP+Gaeni, not even counting whatever resources the Federation might spare.

But, like @AKuz alluded to, there's a good chance it won't remain a conventional conflict. At the very least, we should send some high Science ships and work with the Gaeni to ensure that they don't try to blow up any more stars.

They can blow up stars. They've been pouring time and energy into figuring out how to blow up stars.

Like I don't want a bunch of star-destroying loonies running around holy shit.
But I mean that we can actually stop the Licori from doing this shit. With things like the Cardassians or the Biophage, though? The Cardassians are a major power, and we certainly can't just intervene in Bajor, while the Biophage were an existential Crisis.

The Licori, however, are not a major power, and could be reasonably be forced to stand down.

Like the difference between.. the US and Iran, or NK; As opposed to the US and USSR, or PRC.

Oh, yes. She's probably got some kind of commodore slot coming uo.

You know, we should probably warn the Romulans about how crazy the Licori are. I'm sure they know to some extent, but it's just polite to warn someone that their neighbors might be popping off starkillers.

The Romulans were probably aware of it already.

They probably already infiltrated stole whatever research they needed and left it so that the Nerds Federation could take care of them.

What? Sometimes it's good to not be the nice guy in the quadrant. Right @AKuz?

Evasion is dependent on three things: size, engines, and veterancy. Of those, engines is a minor contributor.

The Kalindrax is a large cruiser, bigger than a Jaldun, about 1.4 to 1.6mt. The Constitution is a 1mt cruiser. We should have the evasion advantage over the Kalindrax by the tune of ~2-3%. The Hasque is a 700 to 800kt escort, and the Constellation is a 700kt (800kt with retcon) cruiser. They should have approximately equal evasion, but this is the Challorn, which should get an evasion bonus from being blooded. We should there have the evasion advantage to the tune of ~3-5%.

Overall a Federation evasion advantage exists, unless it was mitigated by doctrine or foreign analysis. Speaking of doctrine, they have a +9% doctrine or FA advantage. I actually don't see any doctrine or reasonable years of FA that could get us that in a 2v2 battle like this one.

Are you analyzing just the canon battle that was posted, or also the one run with identical numbers that Oneiros posted as an example of when he reran it?

How dare you.

Romulans would never do anything so despicable. No way. No how. Well, I mean, you'll never find out until it's too late anyway > : V

I for one am intrigued by the Arcadian Mentats.

The fact is that the only reason they have a chance at winning a war against Ked Paddah and others of the same level or greater are superweapons. It is natural for them to never ever stop research of that category.

A strategic level WMD would ensure that defensively they are unassailable.

The only issue is the lack of safety precautions of doing this experiment in some abandoned area of space. Not for avoiding any casualties but for the rather important aspect of operational security, as leaks are bad especially for great powers that prefer the status quo, as seen here.

Because lets be honest, if we were playing Terran Empire instead of Federation, Nova Bombs would have us salivating so hard we would be gearing to conquer Arcadia and put the mentats on constant work until we get a viable device we could deploy to Novabomb Qo'nos, Romulus and Cardasia.

Now for some reason I want a Mirror Quest playing as the Terran Empire. For never ending interstellar conquest and enslavement or xenocide. The other natural response imho for TE would be "Bring back human augments now! And this time turn everyone into Augments"

I can think of two possible explanations for the Licori's behavior.

1. The "empire" is a toothless failed state that exists only to provide the illusion of unity, and the noble houses who really control everything are made up of Westeros-tier inbred maniacs.

2. Everything we've been told about Licori internal politics is bullshit, and the emperor is just stalling for time until the supernova weapon is finished and he can hold the entire sector hostage.

Either way, the Licori need a new government.

Not sure what Ainsworth is smoking, because this is a defeat. We have one ship slightly damaged, and one ship severely damaged. They have two ships slightly damaged. Its not even an attritional victory, because the damage to the Sydraxian ships will probably not require more than a month or two of repairs, tops. I guess this is why the Conniebee is just a stopgap cruiser; it really is showing its limitations as a combatant.

Good news is that the Courageous survived, though its down at least 1E of crew and we now have yet ANOTHER excelsior in need of longterm repairs. Bad news is that the Licori have shown themselves to be dysfunctional as a society to the point where they can't be trusted as friends, as neighbors, or even with their own safety. I guess its good to see that the Federation government seems to be treating this with due seriousness, if nothing else.

Its very analogous to the Orion Syndicate's disabling of the Courageous. In both cases, we knew that (minor power) would do grave harm to us if it could, but we didn't take them seriously because we thought they lacked the ability. Once that ability has been demonstrated, we are forced to take them more seriously.

Unlike that Orion situation, however, the Lecarre are protected by the Treaty of Celos. If we had found out about this at any time prior to the signing of that treaty, I'd want to destroy some Lecarre outposts and ships as a deterrent against them trying this again. It's even possible that we could then pressure their leaders into negotiating a lasting peace. Unfortunately, the timing just completely fucked us over.

There's not much we can do about the Lecarre right now. We'll need to wait until either a) they try to do this again in violation of the Treaty of Celos, or b) we've weakened the Ashalla Pact to the point where we can act against the Lecarre without fear of Cardassian reprisals.

Let's not thought police.

It's a Syndraxian Tactical Victory but a Strategic Defeat. We knocked out two of theirs and they knocked out two of ours. While we can replace our damaged ships pretty easily they're down two ships.

In short it's a Jutland on the small scale.

It honestly looks like everyone is on board with that.

The Gaeni Ultimatum on the table right now for one.

And we've just got our own war warning of conflict within a year from our own government. All the new construction and fresh repairs are probably going to get funneled over that way.

Starfleet's next move should be to drive an EC ship (Odyssey Maybe?) up to the Ked Paddah and start co-coordinating.

More than that. Gaeni are guys who KP could've been at war with if not for Licori...

I think we have been a good influence on the Gaeni. We have shown them you can do lots of science without intentionally blowing things up most of the time via the power of better computers and sensors.

Also, they like our hats that hold beer for you as long as you use proper containers.

Sweet, the Courageous' crew survived! :D

So did the ship, though it's in really rough shape.

I completely agree that the Licori and their Mentats just used up any goodwill they had, or might earn, for quite awhile with this shit

'Cause baby we got bad sci'
You know it used to be mad sci'
So take a look at what you've done,
'Cause baby, now we've got bad sci', hey!
Now we've got problems,
And I don't think we can solve 'em.
You made a really big boom.
And baby, now we got bad sci', hey!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh! Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!
Caught in some bad science

Called it. But nooo, people assumed that they were innocent.

And to clarify, I was advocating that we.... express our strong displeasure at Mentat actions, and inform them that repeats would be unpleasant for all parties.

Problem is that their research into WMDs was what started the war in the first place. The Ked Paddah casus belli is that the noble houses refuse to regulate their Mentats. All they had to do to stop the war is stop their Mentats from practical experiments. Lock them in a room with a blackboard, some chalk and access for their internet equivalent.

They have no 'it's just a weapon of last resort!' or 'it's our only way to ensure our survival!' excuse. They started it first, the Ked Paddah demanded that they rein their Mentats, they refused, so the Ked Paddah had to ensure that they don't get blow up because "FOR SCIENCE".

Really, the Ked Paddah seem pretty reasonable so far. They even treat their captured Mentats well. It's the Licori who seem incredibly unreasonable by refusing to budge on the Mentat issue, even in the face of war.

Got to agree with the previous posters, something is really fishy with the Licori.

How big is the Gaen fleet? Do we even need to get involved or can we use them as a arms-length kinda thing?

On the other hand, it sounds like the Licori are on the verge of a Mega-WMD. It might be worth intervening now to prevent them from -- OH FUCK IT'S SPACE IRAQ AGAIN

In addition to the difference in repair times, we aren't just dealing with the Sydraxians here.

Ow! Please, stop singing. The lyrics, I … I didn't know it was possible to be that bad. I mean, what possible tune could be used to match the lyrics?

Hey, hey, they actually proved they can do it. It's not quite as bad as that.
Fair.

Starboy?

It is a little weird, stuff that should 'fit' into the beats doesn't. I don't even know what the fuck verse structure Tesfaye is using. It's almost like the dude writes songs for a living and is way better at this than me.
