You mean there are not already any number of fan recreations being made by Federation citizens who have an interest in drama and special events? Not every dramatist spends their time performing Shakespeare in Klingon. By now, we likely have a Rock Opera about Nash on Broadway. One of Humanity's shticks seems to be an interest in history ranging into fandom. Modern Starfleet history counts here too.

No, Straak is the one who gets a rock opera.

Can we tear into Linderly again over this Lecarran issue? This was pretty freaking serious. He could have done untold amounts of damage to our relationships with our affiliates and member worlds.

Captain's Log - 2314.Q1.M3
Captain's Log, USS Atuin, Stardate 25420.6 - Captain Vol Chad

Well.

This is roomy. I could get used to the Captain's quarters on an Excelsior.

I've been tasked with exploring around the Licori, with a particular charge from the Diplomatic Service to report in detail on any encounters we have with our good Arcadian friends. Our next stop on our mapping tour is a planet known as 34 Gepat IV, where an earlier explorer corps sweep's long range sensors picked up a hint of something unusual. It falls to us to take a closer look.

Captain's Log, USS Stalwart, Stardate 25421.2

We were chasing down a suspected Syndicate ship that had slipped out of the cordon. There were two ships at first, and a warp sprint netted one of them easily enough, letting us arrest the crew and return the captured vessel to the Orions. The other was diving deep on the galactic plane, forcing us to move well out of position. We've caught up to the ship at last.

Abandoned in orbit over a pre-warp civilisation. Just great.

Captains' Log, USS Thirishar, Stardate 25421.8

A second assault by the psuedoscience cults on our conveyance of the Caledonian Ambassador was a little more successful than the last, but only just. We were able to identify and evade deep space mines, burn through an armed civilian ship and a second-hand Yrillian corsair. We will arrive at the rebellious planet soon, with nothing more than paint scratches as proof of the battles.

It is an ancient preserver base! Main power has long since faded, and almost everything is lost, but there are nonetheless tantalising glimpses of what once was. There are even signs that many other sites once existed, yet havenow being dredged down by tectonic forces over the millions of years that have passed.

-

Captain's Log, USS Defiant, Stardate 25422.5

Captain T'Rinta has gone on to command an Excelsior, but her year in command has left its mark on the Defiant and her crew. Her work ethic, her scientific know-how ... her ability to make photon torpedoes seem as commonplace and useful as forks.

That reared its head when a Honiani freighter passing through the SBZ burst an EPS inducer coil and started spiralling in towards a gas giant. By getting them to adapt their main deflector dish to the polar opposite of our torpedo signature for maximum effect, we were able to use our torpedoes as a form of 'Orion drive' - no relation - and arrest the fall of the ship and buy us enough time to adapt our tractor beams for the EM turbulence.

Well, well, well. This was an old bolthole, apparently, not a place they have only just chanced upon. Removing their poisonous influence will be difficult, and may end up causing a worse intervention in the local culture's development. But we have managed to track down the Syndicate pirates, and my security chief led two dozen officers and crew to the surface to storm their base in the sewers of an industrial age city. They are now in custody, and being hauled away, and we are bringing in specialist groups to assess the local civilisation, to see what may be done to erase the Syndicate influence.

Not much is left after all, but we have still learned new insights into the culture of that ancient people. We have conveyed this back to the Starfleet Science Academy. There are signs that the Licori Mentats knew this site existed, but were uninterested in it.

Sector Commander's Log, Gabriel BZ, Stardate 25424.1 - Rear Admiral Ainsworth

The Sguirri Outpost is complete! The Apiata are preparing to push out from this base, but they are reluctant to expose themselves too far to the Cardassians.

On the other side, I'm convinced the Sydraxians have a new facility, and have sent out the runabout squadron to investigate further. The Amarkians are establishing themselves at Bean's Star, and is establishing a small station there to help serve as a base of operations. The raw materials are mostly in place, while the engineering work will take a little while to get through.

For ourselves, we're all looking for the next place to send the colony ships. I am willing to say that one of the prospectors thinks they have a very good lead; the USS Somak is prospecting 31 Miele, and they have high expectations. The CAA Ipoor, the Amarkian prospector, is currently at 20 Miele, and is sending back very promising reports as well.

I would agree if they hadn't killed and replaced an ambassador. If they'd replaced an ambassador talking with the Yan-Ros we could be at war with them right now

That's nice.

Exactly what do you expect to happen if we push the Cardassians to stop the Lecarre from doing this?

And if the Cardassians don't take action (which they won't) what do you want to do about it? Spark off the war early by blowing something of the Lecarre's up?

We have an Intel admiral specced against this stuff, and we know very well what the Lecarre are capable of. We're taking what precautions we can. Starting a war over something like this, as infuriating as it may be, isn't worth it.

Think of this like North Korea. Ignoring them is the best option.

Good to see everything chugging along nicely.

Thirishar didn't get accidentallied for once. Good to see

This quarter should put Caldonia over 500 in relations right? Wonder how that will be handled if we are not accepting new members for a bit.

probably a vote followed by a few years of planning and shipping expansion as the development faction wheels and deals to minimize the overall disruption when they officially join. I wonder if the development faction may lose seats to this. I doubt the caldonians are going to like the wait that much, and are less likely to vote in development senators.

I think we are at 225 rp now, we need 224 for the existing teams, and have an additional quarter ahead of us. Quarters where we earn less than 10 rp are rare, so I think it's reasonable to recruit an extra team; even if we fall short we only need to deactivate one generic team.

does anyone else feel like we just saw a season finale for the x-files from the other side? The conspiracy is finally decapitated when even stranger creatures from another world show up to roll up the last bunch, leaving yet more questions and a new batch of alien infiltrators working towards yet stranger ends.

There is no escape, Syndicate :drevil:

25 pp, 15 RP, +25 Caldonians and +10 Honiani! Awesome finish to the quarter.

30 pp. And yes, this has been a pretty productive quarter! We're going to have quite the shopping list at this year's Snakepit.

I think it's interesting how pseudoscience cults seem to be a big problem for the otherwise quite stable and boring Caledonians. I suppose when you practically worship science, it's easy to slip over into actually worshiping science.

We're getting high enough with the Honiani to be in a relatively 'safe' zone even if there's a disastrous event that majorly drops Relationship. But who is the new Captain of the Defiant, I wonder.

TFW you realize a Constellation has caught an event involving a pre-warp civilization, and you're praying they don't screw it up.

Once she gets her Q2 reinforcements, I sense more aggression on the horizon!

Huh. That's definitely an interesting way to look at things, yeah.

Be more condescending while you're at it!

Best Korea got where they are because other nations gave in to their demands.

Ignoring a hostile group that doesn't think like you is only going to embolden them. Or show them that we don't care enough to stop them from infiltrating every level of our society.

Hitting a listening post, or even raiding one of their server farms is no less provocative than them killing and impersonating our ambassador.

The Cardies won't intervene on our behalf if we make a stink about the Lecarre operatives, but I doubt they'll start a war over us raiding Lecarre data either.

Two questions.

1. Do you actually think retaliating will make the Lecarre stop their shenanigans? Because everything we know about them says they'll just up the ante.

2. How certain are you this won't start a war?

There's very little to be gained from retaliating, and much to be lost. It's really not worth the risk.

Honestly our best bet is to loudly complain that the Cardassians aren't keeping their thralls in check. Highlight the fact that the Cardassians expect their clients to have no independence at all.

At the very least it'll embarrass the Cardassians by making them look weak (Even if the Cardassians okayed the operation they look weak because they got caught. It's embarrassing.)

Love the new update. And i think it would perhaps be a good idea for Captain traits to have a cahnce of remaining with their former ship/crew if they manage to have a good long five year run. Might also incentivize the player base to switch captains...

Straak's demonstrations are action movies. I have no doubt there's some entertainment studio salivating at the chance to buy up the rights to Captain Straak, ACTION GEOLOGIST.

This will be the best Dan Brown movie ever. Especially because Straak will be standing right there ready to beat him with a sample hammer if he screws up the science.
