I would've liked a deal that would have decreased the cost of diplopushes, but that would have probably been costly. And it's not like we can afford to do alot of diplopushes right now.

[ ] Plan Heavy Investment in Gabriel

I'm rather tempted by this, but what are the odds the Gabriel expanse skirmishes will trigger the Klingon/Romulan war? We shouldn't pare down those borders too much, just in case.

No. But if I were the Cardassians, I would try to get the Gretarians as clients as soon as possible, so that they are "protected" by the treaty.

You know, that clause of the treaty really is incredibly demeaning to the Cardassian clients. We should publicize this aspect of the treaty as much as possible, and encourage neutral species to spread the word. I can't imagine the Yrillians or Dawiar being happy about the Cardassians forbidding us to treat with them on their own terms.

Especially the Dawiar. They fear losing their sovereignty, and the Cardassians have just forbid their neighbors from talking to them.

If we have enough pp to push anyone this year, it should be the Yrillians. They seem to be on the brink of civil war, likely on the grounds of a pro-Cardassia pro-Federation split. Given how much of the Yrillian fleet strength is tied up in individual captains, the more Yrillians there are that think favorably of the Federation, the more ships will be on the side we are inclined to support.

To be perfectly honest, I am pretty sure that the Yrillian Civil War is what will kick off an all-out war between the Federation and Cardassia. The Cardassians will back a side, and will send them support through the Gabriel Expanse. And unless we want to have our entire coreward border dominated by Cardassian clients, we will need to support a faction as well. So I think there is a very good chance of that igniting the war, and as such want as many Yrillians on our side beforehand as possible.

For the snakepit we're pretty much reduced to the ambassador project and minor development. We have near zero leeway for any kind of diplo push.

Apinae maybe? It's probably the least explored sector, at least by Starfleet.
Would also put two Oberths near the Cardassian border, which I like.
Hm. That could free up either the Centaur-A or the Miranda at Apinae; I could potentially use the Miranda to free up Tellar's Centaur-A, if we wanted movement in every sector. If I do free up a Centaur-A, should I just send her straight to the GBZ, or should I swap her for the Blooded Yukikaze and send that to the GBZ, or...

The Yrillians are not (yet) Cardassian clients, and we can and should diplo-push them if the pp is there. Over the Gretarians.

It also practically tells their clients that the Federation can offer them a better deal than the Cardassians. Otherwise, what would the Cardassians have to fear from Federation diplomats?

In fact, the more I think about this, the more I suspect that our negotiators have pulled one over on the Cardassians and deliberately tricked them into alienating their own minions.

I actually expect the stubborn and proud Dawair to come to us now because of the Cardassians treating them like children.

@Iron Wolf @Leila Hann @Gingganz @Nervos Belli @AKuz

So, um, I totally forgot where to move Torbriel in Q2. Suggestions?

Vulcan and Andor currently have no ships with a Science greater than 2. By that standard, you ought to send the Torbriel to one of them.

I am seriously considering voting for your plan, but it worries me that it might trigger the Klingon-Romulan war. Not kidding. They're already primed, and seeing us start to pull ships back might signal them, "Now is the time!"

I can understand the reasoning behind that, but I don't think a Miranda more or less on their borders is going to make the difference for them. And to be honest, I don't think we can prevent the Klingon-Romulan war.

Well it's like, if the war kills a million people then each year we delay it is 5 million years of extra life, if you want to look at it that way.
