Frankly, I would also like to replace the Excelsior, although I realize we wouldn't finish that project in time.

And then at least a year to produce the first wave of them, so 4 years minimum before we can have a meaningful amount.

Will this treaty hold out for four years?

Cardassian shipbuilding needs 3 years to make their own first wave if their resource infusions were recent, which we know from Ghosts and Whispers and subsequent shipbuilding reports that they are.

I can't finalize anything from the SDB but... we have 1 year escorts and the Rennie was a generational design where this would not be. 1y research and 1.5y prototyping is not out of the question, although who knows, the sheet is still up in the air.

e: I mean, the real advantage would be production rate, which is equivalent to getting free berths.

[X] At a Minimum for Gabriel we need at least 2 Excelsior class, 3 Connie B Class, 4 Miranda Class, and 2 Oberth class starships in that sector to provide enough coverage to stymie the Cardassians.

The low defense value makes it much harder for the T'Mir to avoid/escape unfavorable engagements, and the veteran status makes her virtually irreplaceable. Risking 6 units of veteran crew in likely combat when there are already Excelsiors around with similar science score and refitted escorts with similar combat ability that can be replaced easily doesn't make much sense.

Bear also in mind that veterancy doesn't transfer; those 6 veteran crew will lose that bonus if they were to move to a better ship. And that their experience is specifically in spying on the Cardassians, giving us info on their movements and fleet distribution. I really can't see a better place for that ship than the GBZ, especially since she'll be there as a science escort for heavier allies.

Come to think of it, does the treaty prevent us from claiming the Straits of Themis? That could be a good way of getting the Dawiar to leave the Cardassian empire, if their only way to contact them is via the Lecarre who they dislike.

I know that veterancy doesn't transfer, that certainly doesn't make risking the T'Mir a better idea and arguably worse (since the survivors couldn't apply their experience elsewhere). The T'Mir earned bloodied status in the biophage crisis and SIGINT experience isn't particularly related to playing hide and seek and open skirmishing. If the nature of the previous experience were relevant the obvious posting for the T'Mir would be the RBZ where she could search for cloaked ships and engage in SIGINT. The Gabriel Expanse is definitely by far the worst place to put her, or any other ships unsuited to skirmishing.

I think something is wrong here. Where does the Korolev go and isn't the Valiant stationed in two places according to this plan? I think the first Connie-B in the GBZ starting from Q2 should still be the Korolev, no?

@Briefvoice I'd move the Calypso from the Gabrial Expanse to the CBZ. With a high chance of combat, I'm happier with Miranda-A's doing support over Miranda's, and a 3rd ship in the CBZ for patrol is not a bad idea as to avoid making it look too tempting.

Here, if people really want to put the T'Mir in the GBZ then vote for this:

[] Plan Gabriel Warzone Except put T'Mir in the GBZ and send the Calypso to Rigel in Q2.

So, what did we learn exactly from the intercepts acquired by the Enterprise? It sounds like we might not be able to continue out producing the Cardassians so long as we have the political drain of the ASTF.

in any case, let's go duke it out in the Gabriel Expanse.

:mob:

I literally just pointed out why this was a questionable idea, Briefvoice. Did you have a response to that, or can you not find another ship to plug that hole with?

Zaardmani is learning to be a commander, not a sensor operator. He's going to have to sit in his command chair and keep his damn fingers off the sensors for a while, even if he could do a better job and he knows it.

And that wasn't the first time it was brought up either. So far none of the Master of Orion posts have directly mentioned any useful contribution so that's just speculation, and as mentioned several times before the Yukikaze has a science score almost as high anyway.

Hmm, the ships in our Explorer Corps have about the same, or even higher, Science as the T'Mir and I'm sure there will be atleast one or two of them hanging around in the GBZ. So I'm not so sure we really need the T'Mir there if all we want is good sensors.
