Trip is already going to murder us for shoving three prototypes into this thing (atomics, warp coils, impulse engines) that he has to handle the fallout from the rolls for, let's not also have him hotbunk with the rest of the engineering staff.

You know, I kinda hope we get a chance at a computer upgrade that turns out so well we can convince the Vulcan we aren't just Klingons with less tech, while we use the upgraded comps to do better targeting rather than science

At least atomics is using the same launcher system, just a different warhead so not as big of a change.

Where do you see that? Because my view is that we should be trying to rollout the best ship for the intended role (which yes does factor in how much it costs which is why for the cargo ship i was looking at cheaper)

I literally just don't want to rehash canon designs, choosing a different hull shape is a large part of that because it's the most visual part of a starfleet ship. I don't care about the stats too much, unless it effects the vibe.

If it looks the same then it is the same is more or less what I meant(don't really care about the internals all that much unless they change the ships looks) , the full saucer is the canon look and is boring when we are supposed to be changing stuff.
I like the half saucer look, but this is meant to be top of the line, holding things back because of looks isn't something I want

That said I do want to add a secondary hull if possible.

[X] Full Saucer Primary Hull (More Internal Space) (Industry: 13)

This is an exploration ship. In fact, it is our very first exploration ship. We're gonna want to stuff this thing to the gills with internals, and this way we can do more of them.

[X] Half-Saucer Primary Hull (Less Internal Space) (Industry: 11)

We keep ending up with basically-canon designs, let's get just a little fresh.

Based off of the update it seems like it may be possible to offset the disadvantage of taking the half saucer.

Mainly this part:
You may be able to offset the disadvantages of either choice later down the line

Was fairly torn on this, but half saucer might be more Agile and the lost space will hopefully push us to add the Engineering hull from the Refit and I really want that engineering hull!

Yeah that is really my only gripe about this quest, not a big issue, but when a big part of the quest is visuals; then we should try to stray far away from cannon options.
Almost none of our ships we've designed so far use their canonical designs. What you mean is you're annoyed they look like Starfleet ships, which you've made clear several times and Sayle has explained is not going to change.

Gonna have to use my sense of logic and go for more internal space, since exploration ships will be far from port and will need all the stuff they can carry.

This is not a design to compromise on.

Listen to Uncle Phil!

We don't need to compromise. The update says that the downsides of both hulls can be offset later. And I would say the down side of the half saucer, lack of internal space, is easier to compensate for by simply having a bulkier, and more costly, secondary hull. Less costly in this state but more costly in the next.

The full saucer however will have the downside of decidedly less optimal places for our engines thus making it less agile. And that seems to me to be a much harder issue to compensate for as it's something that's really quite reliant on the shape of the ship.

As other people have mentioned, we're going to need the internal volume for our test-bed ship. Not to mention, more internal space means more room for future refits - and thus, greater longevity for the design.

The dude I quoted was right though, some of the designs we've made have more or less been somewhat similar to their cannon design?

I'm not saying that they shouldn't look like star trek ships, just picking the full saucer here means going with a design that is extremely close to cannon; its not like the half saucer wouldn't look like a star trek ship it would just distinguish it from the canon NX-01.

Dare to be different. Classic Starfleet designs are nice, but I'd like to try something else this quest.
