[X] 10 Phaser Banks (Type V) [Damage 32] [100% Coverage] [Cost: 149]
[ ] 6 Phaser Banks (Type V) [Damage: 32] [60% Coverage] [Cost: 129]
Don't forget there's still the torpedos to go. if we have 2 tubes aft- perhaps not the rapids, but what about the prototype next gen standards? that should fill that rear blind spot nicely.
Edit - found the table:
Component Implementation Cost Real Cost Effectiveness Unknowns If Taken Implementation Schedule Type-4 Photon Launcher Prototype (+25% Cost) 4 5 12 Average/36 Burst Standard: 2270 Type-1 Photon Launcher Mature (-25% Cost) 3 2.25 6 Average/18 Burst Tech Matured Type-1 Rapid Launcher Standard 12 12 18 Average/54 Burst Mature: 2260
The type 4's are a nice boost in damage, while still being cheaper than the rapid. I'm planning on voting for 2 rapids FORE and 2 T4 AFT for a total cost of 34, burst damage of 180 and an average damage of 60.
There's no reason to worry, the Federation Temporal Officers that run the SanFran shipyards will build banger after banger no matter what happens. If the 10 T5 is chosen and we chose this for torpedoes, it'll be up to 183. I hope Starfleet decides the cost is worth it.
I've realised that when I think of the cost, I look back at previous ships with no idea how much the Federation has expanded. How can we know what 30 years ago would be an extremely expensive ship, would now only be 'average' cost based on a GDP percentage?
Please forgive the terrible MSPaint quality, but the rollbar's been bugging me and I wanted to articulate how I think it should've been done.
Rather than the big spike sticking out of the engineering hull with a coathanger on top, having it connect to the saucer and then having bracing connecting the nacelles all the way down to the engineering hull, it feels a lot more stable that way and gives it a pleasing ring configuration that probably has Vulcans feeling a mixture of smugness and dismay at the poor aping of their own designs.

I start to feel a little bad that we all got so excited to make the ship feel different that weve given the QM the challenge of making the pride of the fleet not look like a ship they kitbashed to show up in three frames of one of the movies.
Like the design is really fun but also I just wonder what it would have looked like with just nacelles, or possibly having a mirrored bar on the bottom? Almost kinda playing with it being a vulcan/earth hybrid ship?
@Sayle just to check, the type 4 comes as a single rather than a double by default?
