On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Does upgrading the traits take cumulative experience or just one great 'feat'?

Coz if it is the first, then yeah, equipping the cults can see benefits, but if it is the later, then not so much.

It occurs to me that revealing how to forge Gromril Chain at great expense and then revealing how to do it far cheaper a couple decades later might make those early adopters grumble fiercely and be seen as rather.. undwarfy. Releasing incomplete work.

A good thing we have a lot of different research planned to pad that out a century or so :V

Akazit and Elvish are ~3 Turns, Secrets of Light another. General Adamant research. Do the research chain we got from Valaya's runes, etc etc. :)

Yeah if it takes us a century or two to get around to it they'll still grumble about why we didn't wait. But they're old dwarves. They always grumble. It's a default state.

Basically the idea is we were done and got inspiration along the way in other projects, or some such. Wouldn't be the first to believe their task finished and only realize they could do more after another project or ten.

[Image] Dutch's Khazalid Riddle, x2 +15 something Roll [2/2 USED]
Yesterday I mentioned a little challenge in the form a riddle. It took a few hours to set up, but here it is.

We've been following Snorri for over a year now and @soulcake has done an amazing job in exploring, developing and bringing WHF dwarfs to life.

Even to the point that he braved the madness that is Khazalid (and got me to do the same). Given recent events, that had me thinking. Why not spread the misery a bit and see how Dworfy the thread is?

So I guess you could call this "So you think you can Khazalid?"

If you solved it: Wanrag sar or angoten?

See this as something to have fun with while we wait for the update. If it proves to difficult, I also have the raw khazalid as an easier challenge. Good luck to those who want to give it a go!

@soulcake, what is our penpal asking us in these letters?
Literal cultural stuff. Nothing back-breaking. Dwarf thought on concepts, clarificaiton (that can be given safely obviously) on things like apprenticeship, Ancestor worship practices, the importance and role of Clans, knowledge about Regional, Local, Global history that Snorri knows.

Stuff of equivalent cultural and narrative value to what you're learning.

The skeeviest thing you can say is that she's trying to build a rapport with you.

Oh no, I wasn't expecting anything different. Just a mild curiousity as to whether she was more interested in learning about Grungni or Valaya, or Otrek's reign as king, or the exact nature of grudges. Her topic choices, basically.

  • [X] [Secret] Tell them: Gromrilklad rewards altered, the highest levels of the Cult made aware but sworn to secrecy until you reveal the secret yourself.
    [X] Plan Obvious
    - [x] [Simple] Armoured Maidens: [Cost: (12 -6) =6 actions] Due end of Turn 40. Productivity like No Other will proc. Gain 70 Favour and 1 Standing with the Cult of Valaya. The Clergy of Valaya are making plans to expand the Valkyrie Guard in preparation for what they believe is a coming wave of colonization across the Karaz Ankor in the future. Given your history with the Cult, they've come to you wondering if you had the inclination to create armour for some of the future Valkyrie Guard that will no doubt come from the endeavour. The number is not the sum total of suits, but ones specially made for their eldest and most veteran Matrons. The foundational core of the future Valkyrie Guard in these future-Holds. The Cult will hold the suits in their vaults until such a time they are needed. 4 actions
    - [x] Render Aid: [Cost: 1 retainer action] Can be taken multiple times. Roll for usefulness, additional actions apply bonus to roll. Gain reputation and +2 bonus per action to Recruitment Dice. You formed these Hearthguard to combat all the ills that befall the dwarfen people. Send them out, render aid, earn goodwill and spread the word of your retainers and their stated mission beyond the borders of Kraka Drakk.
-- [x] Elderly Expertise: Gain 40 Favour +? With Stormpeak. The Brana are actively looking for aid in the construction of their new home. While the work of the Kings is certainly a great deal of aid, they are never ones to look away from any Dawi willing to lend hard-won experience and knowhow to be given the task of helping them design and build their next settlement. 2 retainer actions

-[X] [Simple] Gromrilklad: [Cost: 12 actions] Due end of Turn 47. Productivity like No Other will proc. Gain 3 Standing and 50 Favour with the Grungni. There is no one else who can take on the commission. The Cult of Grungni has come to you seeking Gromril chainmail, though only for the highest ranking priests of every Major Hold and the eldest members of the Order of the Stone Wall, the principal military order of the Cult. As well as regular armour for the rest of the order of course, because why not? They are patient at the very least.
    --[X] Accept
[x] Plan: What we need to do and Order
    [X] [Letters]: Knowledge about Caledor
    [X] [Letters]: Knowledge about Cothique
[X] [Secret] Don't tell them: Gromrilklad remains unchanged, the Cult remains unaware of your plans.

    - [X] Retainer Reconfiguring: [Cost: 1 retainer action] Can be taken once every variable number of turns. Change some aspect of your retainers. The Hearth Guard are a fine force of Dawi, but much like the defences of a Karak, there is potentially more to be done. It will take some time for these steadfast retainers of yours to adjust to whatever changes you make, but the length of it definitely correlates to the number of changes you want done.
-- [X] Change Numbers: [Cost: +1 turn until change] +1/-1 retainer action per every 60 retainers added/removed. Increasing or decreasing the number of Retainers you wish to take on permanently. It signals that you either require more or less of their services. While you will not remove retainers currently services if you wish to downsize, it means you simply will not replace them in the event one of your loyal followers falls in the line of duty or simply to the vagaries of time. Increase the number of retainers.

As a reminder to everyone one of the primary reasons for the war of vengence was the only elf the dwarves would have trusted to tell them the truth of wtf was going on was the one behind it. And the elvish refusal to admit their dishonor did the rest.

A rapport with an elf is a good thing. Even with just hints Snorri can probably at least direct the dwarvish venegence to capture the attackers and get the truth from them. He'll be quite the living ancestor by then. With quite a list of deeds to his name.

That's a reasonable backup plan, in case we fail to prevent every step up to that point.

Additionally, the mobility of the Brana would be better suited to catching elven raiders than dwarfs could. So even if the elves are don't want to say, the Brana could quite possibly catch some of the raiders

Clearly the last two lines are about someone's yard, and how it is full of birds. So many birds.

Something Somthing YARD
Rassin Something BIRD Rassin Frassin BIRD
