Oh, uh... I meant any of our allies that we can without getting in their way and the girls in our pocket.
Like, if the UG are occupied with metal girl and not at dangerous levels we don't have to fly over and do it unannounced. Don't want to freak anybody out and get them crushed by an engine block.
Other people who voted with me, anything particularly dumb there?
I'm not sure that wouldn't just be interpreted as a callous ploy to get her to reveal herself and not help her friends right now, but once we have this thing wrapped up, I'd vote for that.
If that was your intention with the cleanse line, then I have to disagree with the vote.
[] Check in on how the UG is doing
[] Cleanse team Mitakihara and all captured Soul Gems
[] Ping Oriko, ask for some quick intel on Akiko's activities
[] Look for Akiko
[] Try demanding a surrender
-[] "So, you feel like talking yet?"

I thought that was covered in the clarification I gave @Firnagzen ? Don't get in UG's way if they're busy? Flinching would be bad. Just didn't want to cut them out of possible cleansing entirely this vote in case they needed it. They probably don't, though.

I think that's the point, though. They probably don't need cleansing and they should have grief seeds, so if they need us they'll call us. If we just show up to cleanse them again, we'll be going against that whole "don't assume everyone else is incompetent" resolution.
I actually came on tonight to do a strategic analysis, not to post about how we're not really a horrible person but should feel bad anyway.
- Akiko and Sakura are exactly the two enemy combatants that need to be active for enemy reinforcements to be dangerous. Akiko is willing to bring more in and Sakura can get them here faster.
- That they ditched Sasami indicates they gave up on the current fight? I don't feel comfortable making this assumption, but they clearly ditched Sasami. Was there a difference in opinion about how to proceed when Moe got caught? Are Fukushima and Sendai running on separate strategies right now?
- Likewise, if Akiko says "ok let's talk", we should demand unconditional surrender on a short timer (I would give two minutes) and nothing less, because as Akiko proved before, she is willing to stall for reinforcements. Phrase it as a demand, too, because I certainly don't want to make threats when bluffs still can be called.
- I think it might be appropriate to negotiate with Sendai and with Fukushima separately. For example, I think asking Metal Girl to surrender given that her two teammates are in custody might be reasonable. We can also deliver them different terms than we can deliver Akiko. It also might avoid further collateral, or her panicking and calling in the rest of her group.
- The current priority in the upcoming phase is likely preventing further escalation on Akiko's part. We can't trust promises from her. Verify trustworthiness with Oriko.

That's going a little to far in the other direction, I think. There's "not assuming everyone is incompetent" and then there's assuming that everyone can get by without backup.

I'm pretty sure we can't actually talk to the Fukushima group, which is why we didn't try bribing them to go away.

You throw a careful glance back over your shoulder, wary of another blinding strobe of light. It takes a moment for your eyes to pick out Sasami, obvious by the shimmering glow she casts, even against the rain pelting down on you and encroaching darkness of the night. You can barely make out two other figures at her side, likely trying to reason with her.
And that's what worries me; Akiko has no reason to think she, Sakura, Kuvira, and Rin can take us down at this point. The only reasonable response would be a full retreat, or a really nasty trap. I'm betting on the former, myself.
Ahh, it's been awhile since I last did this. Did you miss this?
Sendai Coalition:
Sendai group: 5 members. This is the only group which we have made direct contact with prior to this incident. The Sendai crew appear to be at the centre of this mess, and both the university group and the Ishinomaki group hold a grudge against them, the Ishinomaki group due to being repeatedly attacked by them and the University group due to long-term oppression.
The reason given for the Sendai group's repeated attacks is due to them wanting to take revenge for Setsuko's death, whom they say was killed by the Ishinomaki group. Whether they actually believe that or if they are just using her death as a convenient excuse to start a war remains to be seen. At the very least, the reason they want to take out the ishinomaki group is important enough that they are willing to try again after being repelled on multiple occasions.
They also provided the motivation for the University group starting this war by oppressing them and demanding tribute. If we want to end this war peacefully, this needs to be addressed.
Negotiations are currently on the verge of collapsing due to Akiko's fixation on Grief seeds and her sudden absence.Be wary for an imminent ambush.
Known members:
Hamasaki Akiko: Water powers. The apparent leader of the group. Has something of a hateful reputation amongst the Ishinomaki group. She has a certain fixation on grief seeds affording "Security, Safety, Commodity", and that prevents her from accepting our powers as a substitute. She also has some sort of issue with Kato Setsuko, and bringing up her name is enough to shake her.
Outside of those issues, however, she is a competent leader and has done well by her teammates over the years, so creating a power struggle within the group seems to be an impossible task.
Tachibana Sakura: Teleporter. Uses a katana. Capable of warping between space instantly, but has a noticeable charge up time before each teleport that increases the longer the distance covered. Abrasive and has a foul mouth, but fiercely protective of Rin and is not entirely unreasonable.
Mori Rin: Dedicated Healer. Wields a jagged dagger. Is powerful enough to heal Masami from half a torso in mere minutes with comparatively low corruption cost. Newest member of the Sendai group, but definitely no stranger to the darker sides of meguca life. Definitely confirmed to not know about the Kato Setsuko issue.
Tanaka Tamiko: She can create forcefields, of which the defensive applications are obvious, but an unyielding hard surface can be used offensively as well. Rumours from the UG suggest that she may be mute, though it could be simply that she is naturally quiet.
Minami Yumi: Gravity Manipulator. Last seen recovering from a broken neck. Capable of limited flight, but lacks fine control. Whatever happens, do not engage her in close combat. Not entirely ruthless, but still helped maintain the extortion on the UG.
Former members:
Kato Setsuko: Unknown. We don't really know much about her, except that she left the Sendai group two years ago after an internal struggle. She is the stated reason for why the Sendai group attacked the Ishinomaki group.
Fukushima Group: >3 members. Allies of the Sendai group. Akiko called them in once she realized that she was outnumbered by promising to pay them 20 grief seeds for their assistance. Presumably, they have mercenary disposition, to offer their services like this. Their representatives are now currently in conversation with Akiko.
Known members:
Akiyama Atsuko: Metal controller. Other details unknown
Koizumi Sasami: Light Controller. Works very well with Nishimura, despite having the opposite set of powers. Do not engage them together, isolate and destroy if forced into combat.
Nishimura Moe: Shadow Controller. Works very well with Koizumi, despite having opposing power sets.
Ishinomaki Alliance:
Ishinomaki Group: 7 members. Was approached by the university group to help in their attack against the Sendai group, and is willing to go along with it due to their past run ins with the Sendai group, and Akiko in particular.
Had contact with Setsuko shortly before her supposed death, and has gotten into multiple skirmishes with the Sendai group due to being blamed for her death. They have managed to remain in control and mostly intact even after a long running low intensity war, and seem to be mostly reasonable, if a little trigger happy.
Known members:
Inoue Yuuna: Concrete Body. She fight by covering herself with a thick armour made out of concrete, which provides a very potent defence against physical attacks without hampering her mobility. She also presumably has access to general earth powers.
Koizumi Aki: Clonemaker with Halberd/Short sword. She can create at minimum two clones and dismiss or replace them at will. Attacking the clones directly is pretty much worthless except as a gambit to fill her gem with corruption. One of the older members of the group.
Sato Kimiko: Lightning. Can make lightning attacks from extreme range with very little advanced warning. This makes her very good at alpha striking and artillery support, but she is significantly less effective in a chaotic melee. One of the older members of the group.
Tsukada Hoshiko: Repulsor aura. Her powers apparently allows her to create kinetic energy blasts on contact. More information is required to determine her exact capabilities. Has a severe phobia of being restrained
Inoue Yuuki: Lady Pixels: This girl's powerset is interesting. We didn't get to see much of it in the scuffle due to her getting Mami'd, but it looks like she can create pixelated versions of items and control them at will. More information is required to determine her exact powers, but if so her powers are essentially grief bending lite, only with magic instead of grief.
Ueda Miyako: Unknown. Disposition mostly unassuming, other details unknown.
Kagome Ayaka: Unknown. Seems to have a history with Mami and almost definitely is a former student of hers, and still seems to harbour some concern for her, despite their differences. One of the older members of the Ishinomaki group.
The Tohoku University Group, AKA the second Sendai group: six 4 Members. Mami knows of these guys before. Allies of the Ishinomaki group. According to Mami, they have been planning an attack on the Sendai group since the previous year.
Previously assumed to have 6 members, they presently only have 4, one of them having left, and the other one "died". Amongst those missing is Ayano Chika, which is one of the girls who've met with Mami previously. The member that left is possibly the the Member currently in the Tome city group.
The reasons for them starting this war seems to stem from systemic oppression by the Sendai group, having their hunting grounds limited and being forced to pay tribute. One of their members died fighting a witch while trying to gather enough grief seeds to pay the tribute, which makes convincing them to let go of their grudge significantly harder. That said, they were willing to let things be in return for an end to the extortion. If only the Sendai group was this reasonable, this thing would have been settled in time for dinner.
Sigh.
Known members and powersets:
Tsubaki Chouko: Was the member that met with the Ishinomaki group and convinced them to join in. Nominally the leader of the university group. Fights with a scepter and possess prismatic butterfly wings which allows her to fly as well as shoot crystal shards.
Suzuki Rei: Green Haired Paper controler. Disposition pleasant, weapons, if any, unknown. Shares excellent teamwork with her sister, Haru
Suzuki Haru: White haired plant controller. Disposition pleasant, weapons, if any, unknown. Works extremely well with her sister, Rei
Ayano Chika Dead, killed by a witch while trying to meet the grief seed tax.
Umeko Yuko: Met with Mami along with Ayano Chika the previous year in an attempt to recruit her to their cause, but failed in the attempt. Purple haired and capable of invisibility. Weapons, if any, unknown.
??? Fukui: Left due to the inability to deal with the Sendai's tax. Currently with Tome city group.
Groups that are not currently involved:
Onegawa Group: ??? members. Future members of the Sendai Coalition. Capabilities unknown.
Tokyo Group: ??? members. Future members of the Sendai Coalition, second to join up. Capabilities unknown.
Osaki Group: At least 3 members. Future members of the Ishinomaki Alliance, will join the party in 7 hours, assuming nothing changes in the interim. Known Capabilities
Tome City Group: ??? members. One of their members used to be part of the Tohoku University group, but left for whatever reason. They have a grudge against one of the parties involved in this war, most likely the Sendai Group. Will join the war on the side of the Ishinomaki Alliance in the near future. Capabilities unknown.
Additional notes:
Hey, remember when I said that we are reaching the endgame? Yeah, unless we manage to fix Akiko's issues somehow, this isn't bloody likely to end without bloodshed. Damnit Akiko.
In other news, the Fukushima group is currently in the City, and are currently engaged in negotiations with Akiko, presumably over the issue of payment. The University group is also considering bringing in Allies if the war does escalate. DO NOT ALLOW THIS. No matter what. We need to either bring this war to a close before then, or convince them that our help is sufficient to end the war in their favour.
The good news is, the countdown to escalation is no longer 7 hours, given that we've made contact with the University group. The bad news is, Rin being in the hands of the University group gives Sendai an incentive to escalate instead, so we might be seeing an escalation after all.
That said, we are starting to reach the endgame. We have enough information about what is going on that we have a decent chance of achieving a peaceful resolution. Unless we screw up massively, this should be the last battle of the war.
Rampant speculation time: I think I may have stumbled upon a possible reason for Sakura's strange behaviour. For some reason or the other, Akiko wants to wipe out the University group, but the other members within the Sendai group won't support unprovoked murder. Hence, she resorts to treating the university group like shit, in the hopes of causing them to make the first move and thus finally provide a justifiable reason to wipe them out. Sakura knows and disapproves of this, but is unable to override Akiko's policy.
According to Oriko, this entire war started because of something we did during the Masami incident, though we still don't know the exact chain of events that starts with "Sabrina intervening" and ends with "22 meguca pile up"
As of this point, only half of the 8 groups are involved in the fighting. The possibility of us stopping the war before they are called in is still reasonably high.
First casualty in three days time.
As usual, point out if I missed anything, or if any mistakes were made. It's been a long time since I touched this, so there's probably a few bits of legacy information scattered around, so feel free to point them out if you discover any outdated information.
Shit, that infodump Defenstrator just quoted reminded me that two unknown groups could still join the fight.
On Akiko's side.
And we never took down their teleporter.
And Akiko's crazy and never going to surrender until forced to.
And we don't know where she is.
