Well, this was a thread blow up I'm glad I missed.

I will say this. I am, historically, one of the more violently inclined posters in the thread. I was the one who came up with the rejected plan to cut off Oriko's hand it timestop. In the most recent flamewar I was the strongest voice pushing for violence.

VIOLENCE IS A FAILURE STATE.

Sometimes it is necessary, but it is always a failure. It means that we were unable to achieve our goals in a more moral way. We weren't able to talk our opponent down, or reach a mutually acceptable compromise, or talk the bad guy back into the light. Talking things out in good faith is always morally superior to committing violence, be that violence physical or otherwise.

We should always resort first to honest negotiations, be it against Iowa or Rionna, even if it is doomed to failure and even if it makes a violent solution later on exponentially more difficult. And everyone in the thread should feel free to quote these words at me if I ever advocate violence as a first resort.

Threatening something horrible is, itself, something horrible. That's what assault is, as distinguished from battery. Witching out Kirika would be worse, but some of the reasons it's bad also apply to making her girlfriend believe that we were about to. In that capacity it doesn't really matter if the threat was true, just that it was credible.
Oh, of course. But it's still a world of difference when you're talking about inflicting a fate worse than death.

Yup. Sabrina, as a person, shouldn't want to resort to violence. We call Iona "the Slaughterhouse Nine" a bunch, but even some members of that group ended up redeemed - and Firn is, in general, a more nuanced author than Wildbow.

That doesn't require being stupid, of course, but I'm firmly of the belief we'll be able to manage this if we try - and of course, the more we learn about Iowa, the better we can tailor our approach.

Re: Madoka being involved in Science...

Wow I literally cannot think of a safer way to discourage Mado-contracts and defuse her to the Witchbomb, actually.

*An unholy amalgamation of Grief and SCIENCE crawling out of the cauldron*

"K-kill... me..."

"Kazusa, Michiru, mmm, I'm gonna call you Veebrina."

"Sabrina... I don't think I want to be a Magical Girl any more..."

maybe glasses just to see if Homura reacts to Glasses!Madoka.

I strongly approve. Glasses are the superior accessory.

In fact, we can get glasses for everyone and make a gag out of it!

...though, more seriously, given what Homura removing her glasses meant to her symbolically (a powerful moment, but also the death of her childhood and some degree of deliberate smothering of her own humanity), I do wonder how Homura would feel about being a situation where she could put them back on. Like, in a situation where Sabrina is being silly about SCIENCE! and Homura is surrounded by her friends and Madoka is right there working with everyone together, but she's safe...

Would a new style of glasses be the most metaphorically appropriate?
