I'm no good at politics, and I suspect that the rest of the thread is similarly out of its depth, but we know for sure that some of our friends can handle this - In particular, Madoka, Sayaka, and Hitomi are apparently vicious. You know how we depend on our friends in fights and when we're trying to make people feel better? Well, we can depend on our friends here.

Discuss how Madoka and Hitomi can be part of the diplomatic team with Sayaka. Can we do most of our conversation by email, allowing both Chiyoda and ourselves to think carefully as a team? The memory powers probably don't work like an urban myth horror story such as The Ring. Abstraction should mean safety. Now if only we could fictionalize the circumstance and obtain a few insights from Madoka's mother... or Shin for that matter.
This afternoon, we can IRC with a new group. After that, also see if #milesgloriousus girls are available. Ask if they have any past experience when we prompt them about needing to negotiate with a team using memory powers.
Set up a dialog with Chiyoda tonight over SMS. By then, the news of our visit will have been processed. We don't really want to drag it out any more than that. If they need to be first, get on with it. A lot of our choices depend upon the thoughts these girls have.
We need to research mind protection, and an alternative to open channel telepathy.
Why secure comms now? If we will need to conduct extended diplomacy, a better way to move information that doesn't burn up, what was the number of hours in transit? is absolutely required. Our time is valuable, people need us to reach them sooner rather than later.
We don't need to join Tokyo politics, and in fact we better not. We just need to make the one change on our agenda. As long as the individuals involved can live well, they can freely waste that life on pointless debate. I expect not everyone will do that. We have a city too, and they have feet if they feel like using them.

All politics is local, they say. Let me assert that the problem is solvable with some substitutions. I would not quickly dismiss your political ability, let's do what is possible.

I'll tell you now, exposing Madoka's existence to a questionably trustworthy (in the sense that we aren't already/instantly friends with them) of foreign meguca is going to generate pushback. Homura doesn't want her involved, period, much less with this. The measures proposed to restrict her visibility are good but won't make Homura not push back against it.

So it's probable somebody has already made this observation before, but it suddenly hit me, and it needs to be said.
If Sabrina is representative of Sufficient Velocity, does that make Homura SB?

- She received magical girl powers, and logically decided to fight her enemies instead with her stolen supply of illegal but otherwise completely mundane military ordinance. Because guns.
- Hyper-competent in a few skillsets
- She latched onto and became obsessed with one girl in particular, and would go to any lengths to protect her.
- She has good intentions, but also has a history of going way too far in pursuit of her goals because "restraint" isn't in her vocabulary.
- She absolutely cannot into social.
- She struggles to resist the sunk cost fallacy.
- Again, not a bad person, but she's probably going to break the planet at some point.

We're totally hosed if we try to handle this ourselves; politics would already be painful, and throwing in mind magic puts the situation well past us. Sabrina's weapon is a hammer for a reason. We need to get our friends involved, and Sayaka telling us that Hitomi and Madoka are terrifying politicians is exactly the kind of stroke of luck that Madokami would hand us for this kind of thing.

Yep. I think that we reuse the arguments we had about helping Madoka feel like she's doing something. Additionally, I think that it might be enough to get Madoka and Hitomi good recordings and let them pore over them to produce analyses, and getting recordings is already something we need to do if there are mindfuckgucas in play.

Yes, we did, but the reasoning we gave was something that shielded her from interacting with outside magical girls. Introducing Madoka to unknown magical girls is going to cause Homura problems.
Yeah, we don't want to bring Madoka of all people into an improperly analyzed environment, and not just because Homura might kneecap us for suggesting it.

Oh. Yeah, I was thinking that Hitomi has no more business being "on the ground" than Madoka does and they'd both be better placed on the other end of a phone line doing analysis. If for no other reason than it'd give us two people spotting for memory stuff and able to go back and forth about their analysis in a lower-stress environment where they're able to talk freely and think out loud, which is good for that kind of thing.
