I really wanted to just let this drop with the stammering clause, but
It's not your fault that you were confronted by opposition that was hovering on the edge of bad faith.
Could you not?
The "but what if Sabrina doesn't feel that way?" line of thinking is exactly how the junkyard fuckup happened.
That is neither what is being said nor what went wrong at the junkyard. The junkyard fuckup was people specifically voting not to do something because they thought that doing it would be bad. There was no "let Brinapilot decide" faction, certainly not the winners.

And we are not saying "What if Sabrina doesn't feel that way". Everyone agrees how Sabrina feels. The question is how much to micromanage Sabrina's expression of those feelings. Not micromanaging Sabrina doesn't rule out what you want to micromanage her to do. It can not possibly rule out an accurate expression of Sabrina's feelings.

By comparing this to the junkyard vote, you're saying that a vote for Sabrina to do what she wants could end up being interpreted as Sabrina not doing what she wants. That's nonsensical. You can post a circle way bigger than the target all you like, but Firn doesn't pick what to say by throwing darts and Sabrina isn't going to say something outside of the target no matter how much bigger the circle is. The problem with drawing large circles comes from there being other, nearby targets for different things, which is why we can't just vote for [] Do stuff.
If those people had said something like "I can't see Sabrina stammering, maybe just stumbling?" we wouldn't have had this problem at all.
We did. We said "I can't see Sabrina stammering, but I could be wrong, so let's get a vote that allows for stammering or mumbling as Sabrina prefers" and Kaizuki stuck with stammering so mCooperative made the requested vote. And yes, the result was broad enough to allow things that are neither stammering nor mumbling, but Sabrina still isn't just drawing reactions out of a hat. She's not going to act contrary to her own preferences just because the direct reading of a vote allows for actions that she doesn't want to do but would do if she wanted different things.

and Kaizuki stuck with stammering

I never supported or submitted stammering even once. Stumbling has an entirely different meaning. The idea that anything I'd said involved stammering was invented out of something somewhere between thin air and misunderstanding, and I regret not being quicker to correct it.

everything went to hell in a handbasket. im new to participating so im kinda wondering how normal this is here.

It happens more often than it used to.

There's two triggers. Either somebody starts pushing something that somebody else considers batshit crazy, or somebody misunderstands someone else to be pushing something they consider batshit crazy.

And then at the end of it I blame myself.

In your defense, I was pulling directly from the quote I was responding to and still confused stumbling with mumbling.

Has anyone got a link to the story update for the junkyard incident?

The worst junkyard incident I remember was when we were messing around with witch barriers, but I thought the moral from that one was just "don't mess around with witch barriers".

Here. Kaizuki referenced it earlier in this discussion. The TL;DR is "recoiling from displays of affection causes people who have abandonment issues to have problems".

EDIT: Also, that the thread is really good at fucking with Sabrina's mind. The link Firn put in at the end was about self-gaslighting.

Wait, that was about Sabrina? I thought Firn was saying that Mami was doing that to herself.

i wonder what would happen if we had tried to access our hammerspace from inside our witch barrier. i feel like it's been hinted that the witch barrier is just the hammerspace made manifest? such a shame that it seems like exploring it threw up that red flag. maybe we'll figure it out one day, or perhaps if we manage to rez a witch they'll be able to answer questions.

Hmm. I actually don't know! Are we saving it for something?
I... actually this is kinda morbid perhaps but...
I feel like we should... maybe hold off on that until we've gotten Mami to a place where she can survive the various bombs, and they have dropped.
We may need our first confession to snap her out of a grief spiral.

Uh, I wonder what'd happened if we made the Barrier, but instead of just making it normally, we used Primed Grief.

So we would not have to go into trance while making it, and maybe not while fashioning once inside?

Not that we'd try this, for various reasons, but I wonder if we could catch Feathers in the act if they tried to fuck with us while we're Barrier making this way.

Why not send a chibinaut into the Barrier like we did with our 4space, so that Sabrina/Homura/Niko can spot the outside and catch any Feathers fuckery?

Reminder that while Mami has given us a massage, we haven't given Mami a massage.

There's an imbalance in the Hugs.

Because we got like, no clue what Feathers is or how it works. :V

Making a Barrier is just too risky.

i feel like unless we wanted to passively wait for feathers or probe oriko about them, the barrier's probably our only lead and schemes like that might help, but at the same time it's pretty much an unknown and we could as much be trying to catch feathers as we might instead be instigating them and walking into a pitfall. the total lack of information we have about our supposed final obstacle is a bit worrisome.

We do have that feather from the second time we made a Barrier, too. Still haven't done anything with it.

There's still a little concern at the back of my mind whether Oriko planted that thing, though. You know, that Gun-Waving-Homura shaped doubt you don't want to get rid of just to stay on the safe side. :p

I'd like to get Oriko in private and ask if she's left any lies or misleadings untold, that she could come clean about. With promises of no repercussions. And with hugs and friendship.

:thonk: Have we ever actually called Oriko a friend? I'm uncertain.

I consider her our friend's girlfriend, but I don't think we've called Kirika our friend either.
... Sooooo, back to the plan about declaring O&K friends even in front of Homura.

Only one point of failure to consider.

What are the odds Homura will shoot us, Oriko, Kirika, herself, or anybody else for that matter, if we do this?

O&K have not been brought fully into the fold. Oriko still wants to save the world... out of sheer momentum? It was her father's dream, the one he betrayed, and she loves and hates him. It's a fragile bond that keeps Oriko on the world saving path.

What she's always needed has been a friend, and while she's got Kirika... Kirika's a special case. :p

We can be that friend. Once Oriko's fully and truly befriended, and we can wave around that fact in front of all our other friends, then we can finally silence that gun-waving-Homura-shaped-doubt at the back of our mind.

Once we have tested that the actual Homura will not be waving guns around once this comes to pass! :V

We just need to making the send half of the ring set.

We made the Gold Ring Kirika put on Oriko's finger.

Now we must make the Gold Ring for Oriko to put on Kirika's finger.
No no, we clearly need a silver platinum ring for Oriko to give Kirika. :p

(and to inset the rings with a diamond and a citrine, for what I expect will be very obvious reasons)
