Not self-cloning. Just... not-familiars. We need to come up with a better name for the concept, since they're definitely not familiars. Witches have familiars.
Strangers?
It physically hurt me to type that.

They can go around cleaning soul gems because we can't be everywhere at once. They'd be more analogous to Kyubey's bunnycat body, which surely he doesn't have only one active at a time (since he couldn't be everywhere at once either)... only not evil.
"Holy shit, you're a sane witch. How'd you even do that?"I feel like making ourselves a sane witch would be like trying to be the surgeon for our own brain transplant.
Thats actually not a bad idea on some level.
And that's why Madokami took a vacation, after running herself ragged pulling string after string behind the scenes to make it happen."Holy shit, you're a sane witch. How'd you even do that?"
"I witched out and then used my powers on my Grief Seed."
"...How?"
"I... huh, how did I do that?"

I am havIng traumatic flashbacks to Asuka Quest. I almost expect to see someone suggest electron ripping or trying to absorb a Grief Seed into our Soul Gem as a power-up.
Guys, this is genius! It can't possibly go wrong! A grief seed is basically a soul gem, so we should be able to absorb it and grow more powerful!I am havIng traumatic flashbacks to Asuka Quest. That's a joke, right? Pretty sure doing that would instantaneously cause us to Witch.Guys, this is genius! It can't possibly go wrong! A grief seed is basically a soul gem, so we should be able to absorb it and grow more powerful!
FOR SCIENCE!
The basic idea isnt wrong per se, but remeber whatever happend to it, that is another soul. Meaning we may risk either it trying to take over, or if we manage that, weve officially become someone who eats the souls of others, which strikes me as ethically dubious. (If the soul is corrupted beyond saving and headed fordestruction or fate worse than death anyway it can be debated to not be wrong, but thats comething someone else can figure out).
You more likely want grief seeds as some sort of battery.
Aren't Grief seeds already kind-of batteries (or chargers to be fair.)? Plus, power isn't really a problem for us, given our already extreme potential combined with Grief Manipulation. The basic idea isnt wrong per se, but remeber whatever happend to it, that is another soul. Yes, it's a joke. Read the post I quoted. That's a joke, right? Pretty sure doing that would instantaneously cause us to Witch.
This... Yes. Yes, I would read this. Which is funny considering I usually nope genderbend stories. Maybe because this one is conditional?Actually, that could be an interesting story. AU, or something, where magical boys and girls coexist, but most boys witch out quickly due to being unable to deal with the gender discontinuity and how it might be effecting them in real life. A few of them survive though, and one of them becomes a sensei at his middle school. He runs a club as a "support group" for the girls who contract at his school, and regularly joins them on witch hunts.
The story begins with the school's newest magical girl getting in way over her head with a particularly difficult witch. Senseiguca happens to be nearby and vectors in to help. Cue much "what the hell" after (s)he detransforms.
Um...wow....
We should be SCIENCEing in our free time
I wonder what the success rate is for turning mumi to the SCIENCE side.
Yeah... too many SCIENCE topics require
So we bind her and keep siphoning out the grief until she calms the fuck down?
