I'm against trying to cram both discussions in one update.

So at some point we should do this:
[] Create as many chibis as possible to see at what point it becomes too much for you to handle, multitasking-wise
Not right now, though. Too much other stuff to do.

The thing with Tsubaki is that she puts literally everyone else above herself. If we gain her trust, she may go full martyr on us once she learns of Walpurgis. And if Tsubaki dies, us trying to prevent Suzune from occuring would have been for naught.

In that case we use the same strategy we use for social-fu Madoka: give her something to do, which doesn't have to be in the frontlines.

I don't think this is really something we need to worry about... First off, the only people we know of that she prioritizes above herself are people she's actually close to. There's no indication that she's really the 'heroic' type, rather than simply being the 'motherly' type. And besides, even if she were, it's not as if she's going to randomly off herself in battle. She's not Oriko, she doesn't actually want to die. She'll want Walpy dead, yes, but she doesn't have Oriko's martyr complex and she's probably got more common sense than to think it's necessary for her to die.

Plus... her wish was to kill witches. She specializes in killing witches, and is very experienced. Keeping her away from Walpurgisnacht is stupid, when she's probably among the best possible meguca we could possibly have against Walpy.

Anyway, when we talk to Tsubaki, I think it's important to keep in mind that we're a total stranger to her, and she probably has no clue why we want to talk to her. I predict that the thing on her mind is going to be 'what does this person want from me?', and we NEED to account for that. If we are not clear about what we want(fix this stupid system, get meguca to stop suffering, stop walpurgisnacht), I think she's very likely to think we're one of those Grief manipulators. Yknow, the dickish ones Nadia mentioned.

I'm skeptical of asking her on a suicide mission during our first conversation. Especially since, like Kyoko, she has dependents.

Not saying bringing up Walpurgisnacht on the first conversation is necessarily a good idea(i'll let the rest come to a conclusion on that), but I have my doubts about Walpurgisnacht being a 'suicide mission', especially for an older experienced maguca who specializes in killing witches. Also, there's a good possibility that she may actually trust us more if we have a clear selfish motivation in this. After all, most meguca aren't exactly selfless, so she'll be expecting us to have some sort of selfish motivation: and if we don't clearly show one, she might wind up trying to figure out what it could be and come to incorrect conclusions. For example, that we might be like the other grief manipulators in the past.

On the other hand, saying this sort of selfish thing is our main motivation would be lying. We are perfectly okay(i assume, anyway) with Tsubaki not assisting us at all, and us simply stopping by to give her a Clear Seed. I believe it is better to be clear about us wanting to save all the meguca, because, well, the webs we weave and all that. Creating webs of lies gets you tangled up. Besides, Kyubey could use it against us and actually be capable of quoting us when it's trying to pretend we're actually evil or something.

but I have my doubts about Walpurgisnacht being a 'suicide mission', especially for an older experienced maguca who specializes in killing witches.
I mean, I agree. I've said before that I don't expect Walpurgisnacht to be much of a problem for our group. But when discussing it with other meguca I think it's useful to think in those terms.

I propose making a grief GMOD Tool Gun to make our construct summoning more flashy.

Or a Grief Revolver with which we spin the chambers.

Looking at the science testing, there's some interesting conclusions.
• "Primed" grief can become any(?) construct that we can form with trancing, extremely quickly, as long as it's in a shape that the effect can match to.

It's worth examining the "kneading" phenomenon in more detail -

• After the first time the "primed" grief is "triggered", the enchantment is no longer re-usable.
Isn't that because our enchantment model is uncomfortably close to Nasuverse Projection and Reinforcement? :ogles: Emiya Syndrome at work

I propose making a grief GMOD Tool Gun to make our construct summoning more flashy.

Or a Grief Revolver with which we spin the chambers.
When we just unlocked Grief Pokeballs? Or is it VERP super plastic Grief?

I'll try and make a vote. I think a lot of people haven't read Suzune Magica, and that might be why people don't really know what to do right now.

Okay, for people who haven't read Suzune Magica...

We're about to talk to Tsubaki Mikoto. She's a magical girl in her twenties. Her wish was to kill Witches, which is probably why she's lived so long. She is something of a surrogate mother figure for a pair of sisters, Kagari and Mitsuki Hinata. At some point(it's unknown if this has already happened in PMAS) she takes a rookie magical girl under her wing: Suzune Amano. Her wish was "I want to become a magical girl like Tsubaki". She has the power to copy the powers of Witches she kills(but only one at a time). At any rate, Tsubaki Mikoto pulls a Kazumi and prioritizes Suzune over herself when it comes to Grief Seeds, leading to Tsubaki witching out. Suzune kills Tsubaki's witch, and this leads to the events of Suzune Magica.

In Suzune Magica, Kagari Hinata contracts and gets high-tier brainwashing powers(both sisters has high potential), and blaming Suzune for Tsubaki's death, decides to make Suzune suffer. She brainwashes herself into become even more revenge-obsessed, then she brainwashes Suzune into becoming a serial killer that hunts meguca, and a whole bunch of bad shit starts happening that I'm not going to get into right now because we're going to stop that from happening in the first place.

The last thing I'll mention is that Mitsuki Hinata is one of those super nice optimistic types, yknow, the Madoka type. Goody-two shoes. Just wants everyone to be friends.

Also, for anyone who's confused about the jokes that Tsubaki should change her hairstyle... She's got the doomed anime mom hairstyle.

Anyway, to sum up what we know about Tsubaki Mikoto:
1: She's lived into her twenties, so she probably knows a lot about meguca. She's probably already been lich and witchbombed. Also, she probably knows to be cautious of any tales of meguca that can supposedly cleanse soul gems: Like Nadia said, those are usually bad news.
2: She's kind and motherly, and wants to take care of those she cares about. We do not, however, know how she would interact with a stranger. Especially one who she has never heard about before, and one that apparently knows about her. There's a good chance she'll be feeling rather cautious.
3: She has people who are depending on her, who she will feel protective of.
4: Between her kindness and her Wish, there's a good chance she's a heroic type, genuinely being a magical girl for the sake of helping people.

If I've missed something important, please mention it.

Right away Boss!

-[X] Attract Grief

[X] Call Tsubaki. Use formal courtesy. Introduce Mami too.
-[X] Avoid infohazards.
-[X] Outline interest in trading "consultancy" for cleansing. References, emptying her Grief Seed. Dead drop possible.
-[X] Motive - strong group, building safer city, need her experience
-[X] Upcoming Walpurgisnacht, gathering allies. Describe threat.
--[X] Her planning considered invaluable.
--[X] Support role - enchant our weapons?

[X] Call Hijiri. Be a realist, disarm conflict attempts if needed. Big Sis!Brina
-[X] Ask how she's doing. Ask to start over with her.
--[X] Grief levels?
--[X] Anything she wants to talk about?
-[X] Offer an update on Anri. She's safe, also detained humanely, and Angry. We did hear her side.
--[X] You'd like to talk more on that, if she's willing. Telepathy has No tea, No cake. Visit Mitakihara, on our honor.

-[X] Chibi Brina: Try...
--[X] Moving in four dimensions. And observing what's out there.
--[X] Observe Soul Gem in 4D.
--[X] Leaving your range by flight.

Shaved this almost to size. Are we interested in making the actions into two votes? Maybe more? The science work that is already prepped should finish, not get dumped. Enchant NOT-GRIEF, such as the rock we already have invested time upon. Use willpower to change it or form it. Should be quick. Chibi!Brina could be done with her stuff in minutes. Why, exactly is the night falling so quickly ATM? Is Feathers dilating time on us again?

I want to approach Tsubaki in a definite manner, and show her that we can deal in her comfort zone. Start out like it's about hiring her, there is pay involved after all. If she wants to watch us clear a seed by remote, and then claim the seed after we are gone, fine. We can meet after she sees we aren't evil. She may need time to check our references anyway? Our best goal for her isn't as a skirmisher. Our fight ought to be over the bay, in fact. If she enchants ammo for us, we can spread her awesome power to ten locations, not just one. As a consultant, much of her benefit can be had over telepathy anyway. Our better goals, such as de-witching and universal sanctuary, should come out in later conversations? OTOH, if she wants to hunt with us, we will need to tediously explain our wish and powers.

Hijiri wants to become her own woman... and wants to be connected... And free... and safe... And lots of other things. Be less complicated. We need to skirt the line of temptation for all that with her. I think she wants someone to be concerned. But she may also lash out at that. We should start to build both a "contractual" relationship, since she doesn't know how relationships work yet, and make a "place" for her to move in on us, as a group. She likes stealing, so let her steal a little love? What this adds up to is a bit of a base for her to have power. For her to approach her twin safely, she needs some.

Put on your thinking caps, refute me once you have a better explanation!

The "telepathy is unsafe" I swapped with "telepathy is impersonal." You tame cats with food, right? Not fear. Mami has a bonus multiplier when she is the hostess.
I'll try and make a vote. I think a lot of people haven't read Suzune Magica, and that might be why people don't really know what to do right now.
::fistbump:: I like your effort - voting is fundamental!

I'm pretty sure that Matsuri's thing in the manga is that she isn't just optimistic: She herself notes that it's quite strange she's as trusting of Suzune as she is. Rather, it's seems to be a limit on Kagari's ability to modify memories. Even with her memories blocked, Matsuri still subconsciously remembers Suzune and who she used to be, pre-modification.

EDIT: Personally, I'm having a hard time figuring out an actual plan for talking to Tsubaki.

She's probably already been lich and witchbombed.

Careful. As Mami shows, it's possible to last quite a while without learning those. That said, wishing for anti-witch powers makes it clear she was at least partially informed before ever becoming a magical girl...

The circumstances behind her wish aren't explored in detail, but QB claims "she was left alone in the world due to witches" and that this caused her to use her powers "for the first and last time to hurt another person."

That's curious, because Tsubaki's powers are witch killing flames. It might just be that she lashed out against someone and then decided to become better then that... or it might be that someone she knew was undergoing a grief spiral, and she had to pull a Homura and put them out of their misery. That's how anti-witch powers end up used on a person, anyway.

[x] Tsubaki Mikoto.
-[x] Introduce self and Mami.
-[x] Explain powers and desire to help. Tell her that Nadia can verify that we're legit.
-[x] Ask if there would be a good time to meet in the near future. We can travel there on short notice if need be.
-[x] Offer of cleansing, refreshing used Grief Seeds, etc., no strings attached.
-[x] If she's curious why we're interested in her, explain that we're trying to establish good relations with all the magical girls that we can.
--[x] Why her specifically: we don't know of many magical girls who've survived to adulthood. And there aren't really many adults that magical girls can turn to. We value her wisdom and experience.

I figure that subjects like Walpurgisnacht, defense pacts and Clear Seeds can wait until we can talk in person. We're just trying to make an appointment (and make sure that she's still alive and likely to stay that way) right now.

Still under wordcount. We keep dropping the grief-rock proposal without much note, but if we're still leaving SCIENCE in the vote for the rest of the night, we really might as well get it out of the way since we have the wordcount space for once.

I assume all this probably means we're leaving the O&K visit for tomorrow, not the 'tonight' part of "tonight or tomorrow" we told Kirika about, then? Just to be clear about our plans.

What in-game time even is it, anyway?

-[] And Fukushima, and Sendai, and Ishinomaki, and Asunaro, and Tokyo had an observer at a conflict you intervened in but you haven't been formally introduced to the rest of the polity

Maybe just [] Offer references?
We don't know if she knows anyone in those places, and Sendai and Fukushima may not have a very good reputation. We know that she knows Nadia, who's an information broker and thus should be trusted to tell the truth.

Also, listing off a bunch of people who's asses we've kicked might come off as a bit threatening. I'm trying to avoid that. :p

OK, so... first, breaking as requested. Seocnd, just note that Science posts tend to take a lot of words. I'm happy enough to write 'em, just note that they tend to crowd out other things happening. Like here. :V

Basically, what I'm saying is you have to choose between doing science and other things, in most cases. Also, granted, you can keep requesting more posts, but I would actually like to wrap up the day. :p
No time for science right now, it seems. Not unless we want to skip out on Hijiri.
