[JK] Tsubaki Mikoto
- [JK] General introductions
- [JK] Could I have a moment to talk to you about our lady and savior Madoka Kaname?
WWWWW! But we need an actual door to knock on, not just communication!

I'd like to see these sorts of items happen, modding ViA.

-[X] Chibi Brina: Try...
--[X] Moving in four dimensions. And observing what's out there.
--[X] Mapping the 4d shape of your soul gem.
--[X] Leaving your range.
--[X] Make a full-sized Brina clone.
[X] Try willing the enchanted soft rock to
-[X] Become something else
-[X] Attract Grief
[X] Call Hijiri.
-[X] Ask how she's doing.
--[X] Grief levels?
--[X] Anything she wants to talk about?
-[X] Offer an update on Anri. She's safe, is detained humanely, and we did speak with her and hear what she had to say.
--[X] You'd like to talk more on that, if she's willing, but telepathy is not a secure form of communication.
[X] Call Tsubaki. Offer cleansing, Invite her to visit.

Our conversation could be an offer of trade to start with... We need help from people like her. We do have cleansing to offer. Not so sure if she wants our idealism, but the idea that we are creating official refuge is certainly within her positive evaluation from canon. If we make sure to keep good traditional manners, it should be fine. Mami's influence will make this work almost perfectly?

So Chibi Brina on Homu's lap is cute.

But now, Homu has grabbed Chibi Brina by the back of her shirt twice.

... Is Homu a cat?

Is there perhaps an echo of Amy Percival Venticus Akemi (Homura, for short) at hand, here?
The way to discipline a misbehaving ferret is to pick them up by the scruff of their neck. It also keeps them from biting and scratching.

It'd be interesting to confirm that you can enchant with your miniature self, though you don't anticipate any problems there, considering you can summon your hammer without any problems. Nevertheless, testing and repeatability are at the core of good science, and so you summon a small blob of Grief to your hands, and a larger one to your other set of hands.

Grief moulds gently under your hands, all four of them. You can feel the faint shimmer of enchantment winding through the Grief. You stare thoughtfully at the Grief, rolling it between your palms as you think.
Oh, it's more than "interesting". Being able to simultaneously enchant with chibis means we can cast in parallel or in the background during a fight. And chibis being able to enchant means we can go exponential with them.

So we have quite the quandary.

On one hand, we could check on Hijiri...

On the other hand, we could make a full sized Brina Clone and give Mami double hugs and perhaps even give Mami double snuggles while sleeping tonight!

Except the bed is not quite big enough and there's some witch feeling and we probably should check on Hijiri because goshdarn it.

We should promise to Mami to make a full sized Brina clone in the future. For hug and SCIENCE! purposes.

it doesn't seem like I have to decide what I want to do with the Grief before enchanting it
The enchantment dissipates harmlessly, falling apart with the physical form
"So shape doesn't matter," you conclude. "Not that it ever did for the constructs, of course. But I need to have put... effort into shaping it before it actually works."

"Maybe it's like dough," Mami says, setting her pen down for a moment. "You have to knead it a bit first so it can support the magic?"

Looking at the science testing, there's some interesting conclusions.

• Our grief counts as our body for the purposes of making contact for enchanting.

This makes sense - our grief counts as our body for just about every other purpose too. This should make maintaining an enchanted grief stockpile much easier.
• We can "prime" grief by enchanting it. This mass of grief can be treated as a homogenous resource, able to be partitioned off into many different constructs as we desire. It's a "resource bar", not a discrete pre-prepared list of "spells".

We still need to test how long the enchantment lasts, and how time spent enchanting scales with the amount of grief we want to pre-prepare. Duration seems likely to improve as we become better at enchanting.

• "Primed" grief can become any(?) construct that we can form with trancing, extremely quickly, as long as it's in a shape that the effect can match to.

It's worth examining the "kneading" phenomenon in more detail - is it just that a conceptually congruent shape works better then an unrefined lump when it comes to "anchoring" an effect, in which case keeping the grief in a shape like a sphere, which many effects can relate to, is sufficient?

Or is it the process of having the grief "flow" into a shape at our will (in a way described to be distinct from the way we normally reshape grief) that makes it ready to have the enchantment "triggered", with the actual shape it takes not mattering? (Which I guess would make that action "cocking", in this extended metaphor?)

• After the first time the "primed" grief is "triggered", the enchantment is no longer re-usable. If we try to reshape that grief into something else at that point, it no longer benefits from the enchantment.

I'm curious what happens when the duration runs out on the enchantment on a grief construct generated this way. Is the enchantment being used up to speed up the transition from normal to witchy grief, in which case we'd see the construct remain active, or is the enchantment an active effect "locking" the grief into a particular witchy configuration, in which case the construct would revert to non-witchy grief as soon as time ran out?

I guess we're gonna be priming lots of Grief into a few shapes once we wake up tomorrow. :p

Since Grief split off from an enchanted blob still retains the enchantment, we might as well just blob all our grief together and enchant all of it at once. Just need to check if the enchantment stays when it goes nano scale.

[X] After the call to Tsubaki, go to sleep with prime Sabrina while trying to go through the SCIENCE! vote in abeyance with chibi Sabrina.
-[X] Are we properly rested the next day?

More seriously, in terms of how we deal with Tsubaki:

• We aren't necessarily going to be trusted right away. Grief Controllers are often bad, bad news, and while Tsubaki is nice, she's far from inexperienced. We can lean on Nadia to give us a good word, but we can't rely on the two having a particularly close connection either. Go into the conversation aware of that.

• Tsubaki has responsibilities. She's taking care of two near-adopted kids, she might have a junior guca under her wing, and as an adult she probably has time commitments in that sphere as well. We can't and shouldn't impose on her to come visit us.

• Flattery is valuable. Tsubaki has both significant life experience and is an experienced magical girl in her own right. And, we really do want adult assistance in making our long term plans work. Coming to her as an experienced adult who we've heard good things about is a good opening approach.

• Keep the metaknowledge out of it, for now. We don't know what her actual situation is at the current moment, we don't know how much she knows about the bombs, and showing information you shouldn't have can be unsettling.

Yeah, I'm very much in favor of playing up that third point here: more help against WPN may be useful if she was willing to give it, and we know a lot but we do lack life experience, and as long as we're open with knowing a bit, asking her to fill in what we don't in the vein of past attempts and failures in various things, from dewitching to especially meguca societies, could prove a valuable track.

More than that, it also shows that we know we're heading into dangerous territory, and are taking it very seriously.

more help against WPN may be useful if she was willing to give it,

I'd shy away from directly asking her to participate in that fight - she has a family to take care of. That said, even just letting Sayaka copy her power and enchanting a few things for us would be immensely helpful, given her wish was literally for the power to defeat witches.

And, of course, her connections, experience, and advice would all be huge in terms of what we want to do for all magical girls.

Gosh darn it. I just realized we missed the best opportunity for the best, wittiest retort ever.
Mami giggles, and you look up to find her looking at you.

"It's cute," she says, motioning at both of your yous.

You shrug, and grin at her. She smiles back, and returns to her essay, pen skating busily across the page.

"You're cute!" you retort.

You lean in from her left and climb onto her right shoulder as she flushes, a startled smile on her lips.

Before she can react, you kiss her. On both cheeks, at the same time.

Mami's mouth hang open, making a high pitched sound like a steaming kettle as she reddens further.

You hold and hug her, giggling happily.

After a few moments, Mami grabs each of you with one arm and drags you into an embrace as she burrows into your arms, sighing contentedly.

"And it doesn't seem like I have to decide what I want to do with the Grief before enchanting it, either," you say, fiddling with the ring. It's practically dinner-plate sized, for you.
Also, this is cute.

I'm trying to think up an action plan for the Tsubaki talk. :V

Not trying to watch the wordcount just yet, I guess we need to put some thought into this one. Maybe I'll re-read Suzune if I got the time.

[] Tsubaki Mikoto
-[] Tone: Admiring, eager but serious.
-[] Start talking about Tsubaki. Lead with comments/questions. Move onto magical girl problems and your hopes to help.
-[] Topics.
--[] General introducitions.
--[] Tsubaki.
---[] How impressive it is that she's made it so long as a magical girl, or rather, woman.
---[] Ask about her life and responsibilities.
---[] Her skills.
--[] Magical Girls in general.
---[] Problems: Grief, hunting, isolation...
--[] Sabrina.
---[] Our powers: How we could change things for the better, what we've accomplished, what we hope to accomplish.
---[] Standard offer.
---[] Why we're calling Tsubaki in particular:
----[] Our problems when approaching others and offering help.
----[] Hopes that Tsubaki could help or advice, as an adult other Magical Girls could look up to.

Question - I'm a little fuzzy on the geography of everyone we've met so what groups could we group as being in the greater Mitakihara City metro area (and thus we are due closer talks and consultations with them) and which groups can we treat as more ... separate political entities?

This is not as certain to get her to open up as I'd like?

Tsubaki is an "everyday hero," and as such, will have no alignment problems with Sabrina. But her path in life is different.

Plan to deal with a woman who supports herself and others. She isn't trying to save the world (yet! Give us time!) She won't want risks.

OTOH, simplifying our initial dealings to "friendly trade" is much easier to classify. And in fact, that is a good part of our interest in her.
Consultant for hire.
If that also just so happens to save her, and multiple other girls? Not a problem.

Longer term, yes!

Would she help manufacture enchanted ammo? Having a support is something she will understand, and perhaps consider within her risk / reward goals.

If all our helpers for the Walpurgisnacht fight had military firearms, upgraded with Witch destroying enchantment, it makes our end safer. If Tsubaki would whammy the fuses for the big ammo, that is almost a walkover win? There is no kill like overkill.

I doubt she is looking for a leader. Let her do her Yamato Nadesico thing the way she is wont to do, and it may work out better?

Question - I'm a little fuzzy on the geography of everyone we've met so what groups could we group as being in the greater Mitakihara City metro area (and thus we are due closer talks and consultations with them) and which groups can we treat as more ... separate political entities?
The Masami/Hiroko/Ono group live in Mitakihara, and the Kyouko/Yuma group live in the adjacent city of Kasamino. I don't think anyone else we've met is in the immediate vicinity.

Oh, it's more than "interesting". Being able to simultaneously enchant with chibis means we can cast in parallel or in the background during a fight. And chibis being able to enchant means we can go exponential with them.

Don't you have to split your concentration between them, though?

• After the first time the "primed" grief is "triggered", the enchantment is no longer re-usable. If we try to reshape that grief into something else at that point, it no longer benefits from the enchantment.

I don't think thet was directly stated.

The thing with Tsubaki is that she puts literally everyone else above herself. If we gain her trust, she may go full martyr on us once she learns of Walpurgis. And if Tsubaki dies, us trying to prevent Suzune from occuring would have been for naught.

In that case we use the same strategy we use for social-fu Madoka: give her something to do, which doesn't have to be in the frontlines.

I wonder if we could use grief control to render things undetectable to witches
----------------
Hmm, figured out something insanely weaponizable that should be tested with exceptional caution. Use grief to peel electrons off atoms, then segregate them in solid non-conductive grief. Then give the electrons a path out to form ungodly amounts* of lightning.

Depending on how hard it is to do this, it might be better to skim electrons and positively charged atoms into hammer-space over time.

*If I'm mathing this right a liter of water seperated into electrons and positively charged atoms would hit with orders of magnitude more punch than all of Homura's explosives combined. So probably best to make sure it all travels through Walpurgis Nacht and none of it escapes into the atmosphere. And throw up multiple layers of blast shields.
