Clearly, the answer to Akiko is to take Kato Setsuko's seed and figure out a way to link a prosthetic body to it.

Of course, this will likely involve a clear seed and given how valuable clear seeds are, an evil-minded person could end up turning to kidnapping the soul. As such, it would be wise to ensure the body cannot simply be lost. Figuring out a way to generalize a grief clone so that others can use it and project it on their own when needed seems like a likely solution here.

To help prevent emotional feedback issues, it may be wise to make this backup grief-body ~15-20 cm tall under normal circumstances: Juuuust enough to fully contain the seed (or gem if it can be taught to magical girls too) internally while having normal proportions. A normal use body can be made with other materials, such as flesh and blood. In this case we don't need to put too much effort into that as Rin should be able to make such a thing.

It's worth bearing in mind that, actually transporting mini!Setsuko like that may involved pointed questions so introduction might be better if her presence was revealed later. Doing so while she's not awake may prevent boredom on her part.

This line of thought is entirely due to practical considerations and in no way actually a plan to give Akiko a tiny, sleepy ojou.

As long as it's a meguca, and it's the physical heart, rather than the metaphorical heart, it should be fine. :p
Hey! Our mother gave us that heart.

One thing I had in mind is whether to mention that not all our actions will have positive repercussions, such as the fact meguca with Clear Seeds won't hunt as many Witches, and that's bad for normal people. I imagine Sayaka will feel appalled at the thought meguca would stop fighting Witches, and will want to help.

Not sure if it's the time to bring it up, though.

I think this is kinda missing things. From today's events, what she's saying, and her history on this topic it feels to me like Sayaka's sense of justice is much more at play here than her need to do things.

Plus with Hijiri, I think there's her fear of being an escaped experiment to consider. Mounting a girlhunt or ribbon radar could prove counterproductive because of that. Seriously considering just telepathy here.

Everyone is already bummed out and it's just early morning
I'd suggest dropping it for a day and coming back later, even forgoing telepathy
Though I don't feel like it's my call to make

And yeah, infodump Sayaka
Do it
DO IT!
Seriously, do it
She needs to realize that the tragical world of Dark Souls Meguca is not black and white.
[X] Onmur

You guys decide what you wanna do with Hijiri yourselves, I guess

So this is the last we talked with Hijiri, right after she escaped:
"Y'know, Hijiri," you say almost conversationally. "When I woke up in that alley with no memory, my goals looked pretty damned impossible too. I can sympathise with your position. But this, Hijiri? You're just going to give up?"

"I'm not giving up!" Hijiri snarls back at you. "I'm taking what I want!"

You sigh, the sound snatched away by the wind. "Mami, do remember to stay back?" you call to her, tilting your head back far enough to smile reassuringly at her.

"Dangerous information, yes," Mami agrees with a tight, strained smile. "I'll support you at range."

"In the hardest way possible," you say with finality as you vector for Anri. It's some relief that Hijiri's still responding to you. "I mean come on, Hijiri. You're a smart girl. I mean, of course I can't give you what you want. But I can do my damnedest to put it within reach for you for you to take. But I don't even know what you want, not with you being all coy about it."

"I already am," Hijiri snaps back.

"At the very least, do me a favour," you say. Mami speeds past you, taking the lead. "Grill Kyuubey. Not literally. Maybe literally, if you want. But I think you'll find that the 'can's and 'can't's of the world are very different from what it might imply. Misdirection and omission are its favourite tools - its job is to hurt people."
It's been six updates since then.

Are we planning to keep trying to Social Hijiri through telepathy ourselves? Could we leave this in Kazumi's hands?

re:Walpurgisnacht thoughts-
Our ideal is to win without casualties, and greatly reduced damage to the city? This is a function of getting the DPS in effective forms, and increasing the tempo compared to any of Mom's solo raids. Part of the win is dependent on fighting well at kaiju scale, while keeping it from using the city terrain as a weapon. The other part is to realize and adopt roles for our partners so we get the most efficient raid.
@The Narrator , I think Sabrina on a platform is a weaker opening position. Here is a sketch of what I'm intending. There is no combination of non-nuclear weapons in our plot so far that can drop Walpurgisnacht in a hit. It will take us some finite time, and while that passes Walpurgis will be lowering property values and spamming attacks. But I say we reduce that opportunity greatly. We need lots of really big opening shots, and control enough to ration those to steer it as we fight. We also need far more mobility for our allies, since the goal is not to fight over land. Land equals masonry artillery for it. Only our support tier will engage on land, when the individual Witches launch. Convenient dogfight wins are cool, but lots of enemy will be able to choose to break from the fight and eat humans, and this must be accounted for. Sabrina might have the best opening role by joining artillery. Not at maximum laser range, but trying out the simplest ranged attack: Grief Mass Driver. Her direct power is not revealed in battle yet. We get her teleported into all sorts of distant positions and boats, and let her draw aggro with lots of heavy solo fire. Other girls can probably enchant a copy of a magical, electrical railgun to give them awesome range and damage too, using the city grid to stack their power with the energy of humankind. They take turns pounding it with literally unavoidable artillery fire, and turn her about as much as possible. After cementing aggro, medium range hitters can start to take awareness and initiative away from Walpurgis with waved assaults. Homura co-ordinates everyone, she has all the experience. As we reach late stage, when all her sub-witches are down or at least tied up, our heaviest close-in team assaults, and this is where Sabrina comes back for round two. As Walpurgisnacht tries to keep the fighters from staying on her, Grief powers will be able to cut away enough to end its mobility. Homura can now start using time stop to foil counterattacks and rescue frontliners until she gets the perfect opening for her pinpoint attack. Maybe Sabrina gets Walpurgis to be her pincuhion for Prima Lucce, the attack we hold back until our allies and the city won't get collateralled. It roughly has an explosion at origin and target, and some hazard anywhere line-of-sight. We must determine optimal release conditions with another test run, at sea. Or it turns into ground-and-pound with our Mech suit.

[X] Hijiri...
-[X] Have they called her? You can do the ribbon-radar thing, but a search might feed into her fears. Might be better to just telepathy, give an update, and arrange a dead drop of anything she needs.

[X] Sayaka: Yes, eventually.
-[X] We're also going to have a lot at home to deal with: Refugees, preparing and recruiting for Walpurgisnacht, Clear Seed growing pains, and whatever results from that.
--[X] Ending magical starvation will bring new and different problems that need to be dealt with too. Raiders, people abusing magic, and so on. We'll need to deal with them too.
--[X] You expect the Iowa group will be a problem and anything we change will put us in contention with the status quo. Dealing with them is a natural consequence of building a better magical society.
-[X] We need to research what we're dealing with, both in powersets and in character.
--[X] These groups are well established for a reason and we can't underestimate them.
-[X] Raise ways Sayaka can help.

Finally.

A lot of similarity in the second half, though I think it's worth the addition that our changes to meguca society, if such a term can be used, will cause their own share of problems we'll have to deal with, whether by stepping in or by arranging permanent solutions.

So this is the last we talked with Hijiri, right after she escaped:
It's been six updates since then.

Are we planning to keep trying to Social Hijiri through telepathy ourselves? Could we leave this in Kazumi's hands?
I'll point out that if someone doesn't talk to her, and it doesn't necessarily need to be us, then Kyuubey says whatever he wants, unopposed. From what we've seen of the ribbon search, finding her will immediately notify her of such. Likewise a girlhunt isn't subtle. Both could make her fear people hunting for the "escaped experiment."

The reason to use the MOF is that it's highly mobile and heavily armored. In addition to throwing buildings, Walpurgisnacht also has some sort of magical flame attack. If we don't have some way to shield girls from it, we'll take heavy casualties. And Sabrina can turn any part of the MOF into a mass driver or laser emitter at will. Other girls on the MOF with long-range heavy attacks, like Mami and Ramiel, can add their firepower to our own.

It would be preferable to engage Walpy over the water before it makes landfall. It's not entirely clear if it will chase attackers, but if so we should try to kite it away from the city. Engaging in an urban environment is something we should avoid if possible.

We'll have lots and lots of girls who simply aren't useful for engaging Walpy directly, such as those who use melee weapons. They've got no way to reach the target and would be in too much danger for too little effect if they could. They can mop up familiars. (Keep in mind that the immediate area will be evacuated, so there shouldn't be civilians present for the familiars to attack.) But having individual girls without some means of shielding themselves attack Walpy will be a bloodbath: they'll get hit by the flame breath in droves.

I think we've made progress on Hijiri. I want to bring her back to the negotiating table, and I feel like tracking her down and catching her again with ribbons would hurt that more than anything. She already feels like her life isn't her own; being a prisoner reinforces that. I'd much rather call her, or heck, even leave her alone for a few days to let her cool off (though that's risky since it gives Kyubey time to spin things and it gives Hijiri time to do something reckless). I like HeroCycle's take on Hijiri too.

I wonder if Mami could make the Ribbon Grid invisible...

I still really want to tell Hijiri about how Anri almost killed hundreds of people, and find out whether or not she's too far gone to give a damn.

That tone implies that there's still retribution for involvement waiting for her if she ever decides to peacefully approach us or the Saints.

I'd rather reassure her that we got Anri, and that no one else was hurt in apprehending the crazed girl.

You want to lie to her? Because in fact, dozens of people were hospitalized.

I want to show her that her decision to play supervillain has real world consequences and caused harm to innocent people, and I want to see how she responds to that. Because if she's horrified, then there's still hope of reaching her, but if she gives zero fucks, then it's probably a lost cause.

Would you mind pointing out where people in the apartment got hospitalized? Did a quick search of the last two pages in the story-only thread for 'ambulance', 'hospital', 'paramedics', 'injured', and none of those gave me anything. IIRC the only non-combatant who was harmed in any way was Anri's hostage.

You're using the wrong search terms. Fire department is on the scene currently. And we didn't stick around to watch once they arrived, so we don't know if they've taken anyone away yet. But if they have a "gas leak" and a bunch of people with "carbon monoxide poisoning" then it seems likely that they'll be hospitalizing at least some of them in for treatment and observation.

That's fair. I had the impression that people were exiting the building on their own power and guided by Sayaka's clones. But after a thorough re-read, I did notice Sabrina's internal comment on anesthetics and its proper and specific dosages. So yeah, Anri did put an entire apartment building's worth of just-awakened people in serious risk because of hollywood/videogame misconceptions about knockout gas.
